Pages converted from APT with an older doxia-converter carry an escape in front of punctuation that is not markup where it stands: a hyphen or underscore inside a word, a parenthesis, a full stop after a letter. The backslash renders as nothing and only makes the source harder to read and to edit. Only positions where the bare character can never be markup are touched. A full stop after a digit keeps its escape, so an ordered list marker cannot appear by accident, and angle brackets keep theirs, since <escapeString> would otherwise be read as a tag. Code spans, fenced blocks and link destinations are left alone.
The APT source carried a title, an author and a date. The conversion to Markdown dropped them, so the generated page lost its title and its author meta. Put them back as YAML front matter.
Removing the backslashes shortened three cells, so the column padding no longer matched what the Spotless flexmark step produces and spotless:check failed the build. Reflowed with spotless:apply; only padding changed. Generated-by: Claude Opus 5 (1M context)

Cherry-picks 2144edf, 493386f and 818de57: the index page gets back its title, author and date, and loses the backslash escapes it does not need.
dbebd08 (drop the Source Xref menu item) is not included. Both lines are on parent 27, which still generates the JXR pages under the
reportingprofile, and the published 4.14.0 site servesxref/; the item can go once 4.x moves to a parent with codehaus-plexus/plexus-pom#455.Verified:
mvn sitebefore and after → identical visible text and the same 16 anchor ids; the page now carries theauthoranddatemeta.
