Why

The sandbox supervisor protects its computer routes with a service bearer, but its seven JSON write paths read the complete request body before Zod validation. A malfunctioning or compromised authenticated caller can therefore force the shared supervisor to buffer an unbounded payload and disrupt every managed computer.

What

  • Apply one body-limit boundary to every protected /computers route after authentication and before route JSON parsing.
  • Cap normal control requests at 1 MiB.
  • Preserve the existing 16 MiB encoded file-write contract with a narrowly scoped 16 MiB + 64 KiB envelope allowance.
  • Return a stable JSON 413 for both declared-length and streamed oversized bodies.
  • Cover both body-reading paths and prove the larger allowance matches only the exact file-write route.

No user-visible copy or UI changes.

Tests

  • pnpm check (22/22 tasks)
  • pnpm --filter @rakazo/sandbox-supervisor test (148 passed, 3 skipped)
  • pnpm exec biome check infra/sandboxes/supervisor/src/index.ts infra/sandboxes/supervisor/src/index.test.ts
  • git diff --check

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Computer-related endpoints now enforce request size limits before processing requests.
    • Oversized requests receive a clear 413 Payload Too Large response.
    • File uploads support a higher request limit than other computer operations.
    • Unrelated routes continue using the standard request limit.
    • Request-size enforcement now applies consistently to both declared and streamed request bodies.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The supervisor now limits request bodies on /computers routes. Standard requests use a 1 MiB limit. Exact file-write POST routes use a larger limit. Oversized requests return HTTP 413 before endpoint handlers run.

Computer-route request bodies are now capped with stable 413 responses for oversized requests, while POST file writes retain their required larger allowance. The change is covered for both body-reading paths and is ready to merge.

Greptile Summary

The PR adds authenticated request-body limits to the sandbox supervisor’s protected computer routes.

  • Caps normal control requests at 1 MiB.
  • Gives the exact file-write POST route a larger 16 MiB plus 64 KiB envelope.
  • Returns a stable JSON 413 response for oversized bodies.
  • Raises the Hono dependency floor consistently across workspace consumers.

Confidence Score: 5/5

The PR appears safe to merge because no blocking failure remains in the eligible follow-up review scope.

Filename Overview
infra/sandboxes/supervisor/src/index.ts Adds post-authentication body-limit middleware and selects a larger allowance only for the exact file-write POST route.
infra/sandboxes/supervisor/src/index.test.ts Adds coverage for declared and streamed oversized bodies and for exact file-route limit selection.
infra/sandboxes/supervisor/package.json Raises the Hono minimum version while retaining compatibility with the lockfile’s resolved version.
pnpm-lock.yaml Updates affected workspace importers consistently to the new Hono minimum range.

Updated for commit 9c5ac81.

Reserve the larger /computers/:id/files body allowance for POST, and
raise package.json Hono floors to ^4.9.7 so vulnerable 4.9.6 cannot resolve.
