Via [personal profile] merrileemakes, [community profile] thefridayfive is actually something I have answers for this week.

1. How often do you attend live theater performances? These days, once or twice a year. It's just so expensive. When I was younger, in nyc with two different friend-groups that were involved in theatre (undergrad friends from the drama department + my young uncle's circle, who founded an off-off-Bway collective) and in a job that involved a lot of publicity contacts, I went just about every week, sometimes more.

2. Local community theater or professional theater productions? My ideal is professional but indie. I don't respond well to Broadway-slickness, but I'm also averse to things that are super-amateurish.

3. Which do you prefer: dramas or musicals? This is a weird dichotomy; I think it means "musical or not", because there's lots of non-musical, non-drama theatre. Anyway, I like maybe four or five musicals, total; I'm just weirdly allergic to, and distrustful of, musical bombast. This applies to figure skating, too, but not, oddly, opera, which is so over the top as to be awesome.

4. Have you ever participated in a theatrical production, whether acting, singing or tech? Theatre used to be something I loved nearly as much as writing and reading, actually. I acted throughout school, wrote plays, almost minored in theatre, and got very into sound design for several years. Leaving nyc and the communities there meant, unfortunately, leaving behind that creative outlet.

5. What was the last play or other staged production you attended? Slave Play last fall. The casting was uneven, but the good actors were incredible, and, despite the fact that I already knew what the play was about/the twist/conceit, the production still astonished me.
