How to pan out AxS (no graphic) smut without making it romantic...

sir_hellsing
I'll probably review bad IxS smut next.

Title: Substitution.
Author: insomniac-od.
Summary: "Humans do the stupidest things for an organ that hardly makes an adequate meal and yet we vampires do too."
Genres: General.
Rating: T (see the sex is implied, kiddies!).
Source: Volepit.

Plot: Not much of a plot but a pretty accurate 'what if' scenery. Sequel to a previous ficlet. Seras, while on a violent sexual charged relationship with Alucard, watches how he behaves around Integral, almost loving (what she believed he wasn't capable of). She contemplates the reason of their agreement and finds herself angry.
Grammar, Style, Spelling and Punctuation: Spotless, I always admired the author's vivid prose without being purple. The choices of words are fabulous, strike an emotional cord.
Originality: Well, the premise hasn't been touched before (which is strange 'cause is the most easiest way to have AxS in the Manga while Integral is young and is around).
Characterization: Spot on, this was written long ago when Pip was supposed to be dead (not inside Seras or possible vampire) or the confirmed canon father/daughter relationship between Alucard and Seras of volume 8 (while hinted, it could have be taken in many ways). Seras can get angry and with a reason, to be used emotionally (even if she was a willing participant) is a violation, and she reacts yet doesn't extract revenge yet (self control!). Alucard is also correct, employing any means possible, putting Integral (as he always does) as his # 1 priority.
Entertainment: Grim, dramatic and sensual. Recommended.
Canon: Manga, see in characterization which 'violations' has committed, none really for the time it was published.
Flaws: It's a pity that leads pending the revenge, another one shot as companion to this and "From Whom the Doves Cry" would be great.
Strengths: Seras, she's vibrant, not allowing herself play victim, no longer a child but an adult (yet still immature in many aspects). The idea, brilliant and possible within the relationship.
Suggestions: *cough*Revenge*cough*
Overall rating: Very good with Wow-ish moments.

Sample of the story: ( Seras' thoughts regarding her relationship with AlucardCollapse )

Seras is shaving... Alucard watches...

sir_hellsing
Because of course vampires grow hair naturally (not by power influence) despite being, you know, dead (at least not Hellsing ones, we can discuss the eastern species do).

Title: Walls Have Eyes
Author: Te'mehya.
Summary: OneShot: Seras decides to shave in the shower, forgetting that the walls have eyes…AxS, rated justincase. R&R!
Genres: Romance/General (I think Humor fits as a secondary genre).
Rating: T.
Source: VolePit.

Plot: Seras is completely bare on the bathroom, shaving (?), her growl attracts Alucard who drops by to check on her. She cuts herself, one thing leads to the other.
Grammar, Style, Spelling and Punctuation: I liked the style, it was flowing, detailed (sometimes too much - like the description of Alucard's normal clothing, it was unnecessary).
Originality: I never saw a fic in which Seras shaves herself, I don't know if that's good or bad.
Characterization: Tricky, I am going for Anime here. Seras was normally IC, she's embarrassed and flustered as I imagine she would be by the interruption. She's not throwing to Alucard's arms. Alucard pays half attention to Seras' well being on the series (due to, mostly, Integral ordering him to train her), so I can see him dropping by to see what's with her growling (even if he starts neglecting her at the end). Also, I thought the factor of being attracted to her blood and not to Seras was quite IC, he acted due to bloodlust and then covered up with his usual mocking self. Very sensual scene without being sappy! Yes! Therefore, IC. Good one. *thumbs up*
Entertainment: Cute for the lovers of the pairing.
Canon: Let's assume this is Anime, because Manga Alucard is almost never around Seras (or even watching her) in the Manga. I guess we can consider the growing hair on the legs a violation?
Flaws: The premise is quite silly and unrealistic - dead bodies. They could enhance to grow hair but is not natural.
Strengths: The characterization is okay. Ditto for the writing style.
Suggestions: I propose to explain Seras has no control of her natural power and accidentally grows hair by her subconscious (and conscious) yearning for continuing her human rituals. Maybe Alucard can explain or something.
Overall rating: Good.

Seras month, entry #1: Seras' bad attempts to become Shakespeare

sir_hellsing
I wish I was joking, this is perhaps the worst AxS story ever. I mean, even the badness that is Blood Month, Lost Paradise and Hellsing Season Two Episode One cannot surpass this gem. It's beyond words... It made me laugh aloud.

Title: Where art thou?! (Real Seras Victoria?).
Author: darkwolvesoverlord.
Summary: This is a poem of Seras when Alucard gets locked away again she couldnt live on with out him so this is my point of view on what would happen.
Genres: WangstDrama/BadPoetry.
Rating: P. Don't ask.
Source: Abbandon all hope once you enter to Mediaminer.

Plot: Seras proves the fact she failed her English class. Er-I mean, Seras is depressed after her twu wub was locked up and decides to wangst, write bad poetry and commit suicide? I spoiled you! Now the suspense is gone!
Grammar, Style, Spelling and Punctuation: … That's all I have to say. God, how hard is to have a decent punctuation in a bloody poem! Or correct spelling in the summary.
Originality: Oh Seras angstying for Alucard being locked up has been done before. None of the romantic approach are good in my expectations (too... sappy) but those that actually bring character development outside romance (I think there are two) were engaging.
Characterization: SNORT. No existent. Okay, we know Seras isn't the literature type. She seems smart in a street wise way (moreover Anime Seras with her deductive skills) but she's not intelligent in a bookworm way (maybe she was channeling Pip but he’s good at pseudo poetic declarations whereas, in this story, she isn’t). Maybe the bloody awful poetry attempt is the best she could come out with. Except actually she wouldn't bother. Let's see how Seras really reacts when her love interest dies (Pip in this case), she grieves but in a screaming/kicking ass way. She's not stabbing herself nor writing her woes on his blood. She's not that weak. In addiction, her voice is so fake in this story, too verbose. Seras was never very eloquent, she is a young woman of a few words. Alucard saying he loved her? Guh, where did that come from without previous development or proper setting? Why was he even locked up? Because he said that? Lame.
Entertainment: It's masochistic funny.
Canon: I have no idea, it doesn't say. If it's Manga, it breaks the canon fact Pip existed as her love interest and being ignored out of blue for her father figure is kinda creepy. Pity this story wasn't mean to be spooky, I would have liked that better. If it's Anime, I haven't spotted canon violations.
Flaws: See all points above. Ugh, why there is even a second chapter? Couldn't fake!Seras commit suicide and die quietly?
Strengths: Lacks Integral bashing. That alone, for god awful AxS story, is a strength.
Suggestions: Consider giving up Evanescence poetry and try prose instead. And re-watch/read Hellsing or ask someone with actual grasp on the characters some help.
Overall rating: Toxic.

Sample of the story: ( Woe!Collapse )

Gah, I need a goodfic to review next. Something good enough to balance that.
