introduction part one
*Sorry I haven't had the opportunity to introduce myself properly in this community. Things have been a bit hectic lately. However, here is a preview of the partially completed questionnaire for your reading pleasure. Enjoy!

First name:
Brian

Age:
26

Birthday:
August 20, 1977

Fav 3 movies:

A Clockwork Orange - Kubrick is obviously a brilliant director, and outside of 2001, this is probably best film on a visual level alone. For the most part, it stays true to Anthony Burgess' original story. The social and political themes that lace the plot are obvious, but the underlying morality of the main character and the story are left open for debate. It's easy to make an argument for both sides: that the movie is an indictment of the political and social climates of the time or that it embraces and celebrates violence, anarchy, and rage. The audience is left to decide for itself.

M - Directed by Fritz Lang, M is perhaps the best example of early German expressionism. It introduces us to an array of unbelievable characters in a satirical and disturbingly poignant plot. Peter Lorre, who portrays the child murderer as both monster and victim, is phenomenal. It's difficult to take your eyes off the screen when he appears, and brings a heightened sense of dread and foreboding to an otherwise tongue-in-cheek scenario.

The Mad Butcher - This one is perhaps one of my guiltiest pleasures when it comes to movies. It stars Victor Buono (King Tut of TV's original Batman series) as a recently "cured" mental patient who returns to his career as the best butcher in Vienna. Unfortunately, his nagging wife and bumbling brother-in-law slowly push him back to the depths of insanity. Sex, murder, cannibalism, and sausages follow.

3. Application

First name: An

Age: A whopping 24. (My arthritis is killing me!)

Birthday: March 19th, 1980. I'm a Pisces.

Fav 3 movies (and why)

1. Moulin Rouge

I adore this movie!!! It's all about being in love, romance, passion, etc. There's one line in particular that describes how I've always felt about love: The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return. I've always believed that love can conquer all, and that all you really need in life to be happy is love... (and a winning lottery ticket. lol)

2. Dirty Dancing

I think that every woman alive loves this movie. Yet again, it's that whole thing about falling in love. That, and Patrick Swayze is hot!

3. A Nightmare on Elm Street

I am a huge horror movie buff! Jason, (Friday the 13,) was so boring. He stayed at camp, hacked people up with a huge knife. Boring. At least Freddy was creative. He never really used the same 'method' twice. And who would've ever thought to go through someone's dream to kill them? Now that you see how morbid I am...

Fav 3 books (and why)

1. Steal this Book by Abbey Hoffman

Awesome read! Want to rip off the government? (Why not, god knows they rip us off!) This book tells you how to get nearly anything for free. Ha! This guy had the right idea!

2. Insomnia by Stephen King

Stephen King is amazing! This book tells about a man who, after just losing his wife to Cancer, slowly starts suffering from insomnia. And out of nowhere, he starts seeing auras, people in his town are acting very strange, and he is constantly seeing two little bald doctors running around with scissors in their hands. Hmm. And I thought I was strange. lol

3. The Sandman by Neil Gaiman

This is a series of graphic novels that is absolutely amazing. They aren't action comics, they center around the world of dreaming, which is run by a being named Dream. It's a bit involved and hard to explain, but if you click on the link, the synopsis there is probably the best one out there.

Fav 3 songs (and why)

1. Leather and Lace by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley

I love Stevie Nicks, and this song is just pure poetry. Actually, all of her songs are like that.

2. Your Song by Elton John

"So excuse me forgetting but these things I do
You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue
Anyway the thing is what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen"

*melting*

3. Such Great Heights by The Postal Service

"I am thinking it's a sign that the freckles
In our eyes are mirror images and when
We kiss they're perfectly aligned
And I have to speculate that God himself
Did make us into corresponding shapes like
Puzzle pieces from the clay
True, it may seem like a stretch, but
Its thoughts like this that catch my troubled
Head when you're away when I am missing you to death"

Yet another romantic-type song. lol

Something unique and personal about you/your life

I can see auras. I told my doctor about my 'ability', (you can actually teach yourself to do this, it's not difficult by any means,) and he put me on an anti-psychotic medication. In short, watch what you tell your doctor, or you may end up in a loony bin.

Who is your hero (and why)

I can't think of anyone... There are people I think are admirable, but I have no heroes. :(

Explain what you chose for your artistic portion of the submission.

A poem I wrote. I don't write as often asw I used to. There just aren't enough hours in a day anymore.

What animal do you most closely identify with and/or admire?

I love monkeys. They're one of the most intelligent animals out there.

What was your favourite item you ever brought to "Show and Tell" in grade school (and why).

Geez... I have a hard time remembering what I did yesterday let alone grade school. lol I think it may have been my Rainbow Brite's pony. I don't remember what his name was, but he was so cute! I was really into horses when I was younger.

What is your dream for your future?

I'd love to be able to travel after my kids grow get older. It's always been a dream of mine to be able to travel to different countries, and be introduced to other cultures.

Make one more statement to show us who you are and what you are about.

I'm exceptionally witty. lol And I have an affinity for rainbows and all things nature.

3.
* First name: Rhys

* Age: 25

* Birthday: 10th February 1979

* Fav 3 movies (and why): Indianna Jones & the Last Crusade, The Butterfly Effect and The Matrix series (incl. the Animatrix). All in some way have helped me escape my mind, and any time-out is always a pleasant change.

* Fav 3 books (and why): Timeline by Michael Crichton, his writing style has always appealed to me and mixing history, technology and my favourite writer is a recipe for hours of anti-social behaviour. I don't mind the Narnia series but that's probably because i've owned the set longer than I can remember - again with the escaping from reality theme... And any good encyclopaedia - discovery of new fascinations is a plesant feeling.

* Fav 3 songs (and why): Orbital - Halcyon & On & On, Foo Fighters - Everlong, Sneaker Pimps - Precious. Orbital for their ambient beats, this song always makes me feel like i'm renewing myself. Foo Fighters because I associated it with a retrospective turning point in my life and the Sneaker Pimps because the song conveys a feeling like I used to at one stage - "cracking, slowly cracking, under the neon ray".

* Something unique and personal about you/your life: I have amnesia.

* Who is your hero (and why): Jim Carrey, he reminds me of the effective mask of laughter that can veil a deep and troubled mind.

* Explain what you chose for your artistic portion of the submission: Wooden man throwing himself off a cliff. Created at a time when I thought I wasn't in control of my life. I like the feelings of distance from the height as it rushes toward my fragile body, I always wake up before I hit the ground.

* What animal do you most closely identify with and/or admire? Monkey.

* What was your favourite item you ever brought to "Show and Tell" in grade school (and why): I wish I could remember that! ..again with the memory issue.

* What is your dream for your future? To know.

* Make one more statement to show us who you are and what you are about: "It is uncomfortable to consider that our grasp on reality is so provisional, that reality is in fact impenetrable and unfathomable because it is only what we remember." - K. Ketcham.

* Please post links to your personal website(s) if applicable: (www.livejournal.com/users/area) This is me as raw as I can be, and it is as foreign to me as any random journal. "Am I the person that wrote all of that?", is a constant thought when reading through poetry that remembers what I cannot.

Give me wings
bright, beautiful unfurled wings
let me fly
encompass the heavens on my journey
fill it with my own kind of wonder
dreamlike and honest
let me catch my breath as I see the sunset
burn sienna across the fading blue
let me sit in awe as the quiet dawn awakens the earth
as we awaken from our dreams to make them true
let me breathe
catch my breath
expel it slowly, wisely, without pain
let me wriggle my toes in the calm waters of life
where earth meets ocean
I can hear a gull glide above me somewhere
and I long to see through its eyes and just fly
a butterfly on the breeze
salt air tickling my nose
let me feel beautiful for one time
just one time
as time stands still
in the cry of a gull.

3.
First name: Suzy

Age: 33

Birthday: 23rd April

Fav 3 movies (and why): 1. Romeo & Juliet - because I adore how Baz Luhrmann blended the traditional Shakespearean language with the modern day costumes and environment. 2. Underworld - I adore the dark setting and any story that involves vampires. The fictitious battle between the werewolves and the vampires was a good angle. 3. The Passion of Christ - surreal, interpretation of the biblical story, very real and painful to the senses - almost assaults them and batters them again and again. Beautiful cinematography. My heart bled watching it.

Fav 3 books (and why): 1. 'The Black Magician' trilogy by Trudi Canavan because she blended fantasy so beautifully with romance and kept the reader guessing at who the 'bad guys' were in the story. 2. 'The Da Vinci Code' and 'Deception Point' by Dan Brown - that man is so brilliant and can weave every day facts into a thriller and keep it moving. It also has strong female characters which find many books do not. 3. 'Kushiel's Dart' (the Kushiel series) by Jacqueline Carey - she combines the erotic, sensual and darker side of sex with intrigue, murder and courage effortlessly.

Fav 3 songs (and why): 1. My Immortal - Evanescence. Their music is pure magic. Amy Lee's voice is so haunting and draws you in. 2. One Perfect Day - Lydia Denker - because everyone dreams of this. Hopes for it. 3. Goreki - Lamb - again haunting, slightly dark yet not dark, sensual. It stirs the senses.

Something unique and personal about you/your life

Who is your hero (and why): my almost 7 year old son. He shows me every day how to be a better person. He makes me see things through a child's eyes again and helps me temper my need to be an adult with my innate responsibility to try and understand and see things through another's eyes.

Explain what you chose for your artistic portion of the submission.

I chose poetry as it is my passion, not simply my hobby. I love words. I love the ability to draw pictures for my readers and to share parts of myself - the personal, more hidden parts with those who can see past the black print of the words.

What animal do you most closely identify with and/or admire? Tiger. It is a majestic, regal creature, a powerful adversary and a loyal protector.

What was your favourite item you ever brought to "Show and Tell" in grade school (and why). It was so long ago, I can't remember. I think I use to talk more and tell stories rather than actually bring in something physical to show.

What is your dream for your future? to see a day through and not let dark clouds ruin it. I think as a race we have too many dark spots we can't ever see a clean slate. And I think we need that to survive and keep on living.

Make one more statement to show us who you are and what you are about.

I speak my mind. I would rather tell someone how I feel directly and ask them the same and resolve any issues then hear things said behind my back and lose trust which is not only fragile but very important to me.

Please post links to your personal website(s) if applicable:

http://www.suzy.fotopic.net (my online photo album) - nothing overly exciting - just lots of personal pics. But be wary some explicit shots in there as well.

EDITED TO ADD MY ARTISTIC PORTION NOW THAT I'M IN THE MOOD
( Read more...Collapse )

First name: Cara-Mae

Age: 31

Birthday: Oct 11th

Fav 3 movies (and why): Harold & Maude - there are so many life lessons in this movie. I highly recommend that you watch it if you haven't seen it and since I am guessing you may not have seen it, I don't want to spoil it for you by going into tons of detail; Simple Men - is my fav of all of Hal Hartley's movies... his characters, their quirks, their interpersonal, often dysfunctional relationships and range of discussion just floor me. I adore his films, and I just can't decide between a few others, so I am passing on the 3rd one.

Fav 3 books (and why): MAN-S-LAUGHTER by Ellen Frith because it makes me laugh aloud everytime I re-read it and plus she's Canadian and extremely nice; a book I can't recall the exact title of, though it was all about ppl who were in freakshows and such, because it was utterly fascinating (I love that old blk & wht movie, "Freaks") and, The Selected Journals of Lucy Maud Montgomery (all volumes) because I think she was a great Canadian, writer and a woman ahead of her time and I admire her.

Fav 3 songs (and why): These can change as randomly as my mood and often my fav songs fit into a certain aspect of my life. So I'm skimping you on the whys and I'm going to, instead, give 3 songs in re: to certain situations.

For dancing when I need to totally lose myself in the dance: The Sun Always Shines on TV; Happiness in Slavery and Starsign. For certain memories: You Think You're A Man; Sunshine Smile, and Beautiful Freak. For complete and utter insanity: the Wonder Woman theme song, the Sailor Moon (English) theme song and Barbie Girl. For driving: anything by Deep Forest; Children of the Sandstorm (Darude vs Robert Miles) and pretty much anything digitalsiren puts on if she's driving and I'm the passenger...

Something unique and personal about you/your life: I was baptized twice in my childhood and I classify myself as a pagan.

Who is your hero (and why): My adoptive Mom for many reasons but most recently for surviving breast cancer & now battling bone cancer.

Explain what you chose for your artistic portion of the submission.

As a mod & community creator... I've skipped this part & the photo requirement.

What animal do you most closely identify with and/or admire? The wolf.

What was your favourite item you ever brought to "Show and Tell" in grade school (and why). My "Children's Bible" - I got in trouble because I used the coloured drawing of John the Baptist's head on Salome's platter as my contribution to show-and-tell.

What is your dream for your future? Contentment & the sense of completeness in myself that I currently lack.

Make one more statement to show us who you are and what you are about.

"Fishheads, fishheads, roly poly fishheads, fishheads, fishheads, eat them up... yum"
