The last she remembers is a familiar face, and a pair of warm hands draining the murky corruption out of her soul gem.
The name’s on the tip of her tongue, yet she cannot recall what was the name of the girl who saved her.
She wakes up, and sees white. For a second, she panics- thinks she’s blind.
Then she realises that everything is white. The bed, the sheets, the floor, the walls, everything.
This must be heaven, she thinks, and I’m probably dead.
She hears a soft sigh, and a gentle voice whispering “I’m sorry.”
That alone speaks volumes, and she turns her head in the direction of that voice to see that familiar girl, once again.
That smile on that girl’s face gives her deja vu, though she knows for a fact that she’s never seen it before.
Golden eyes well up with tears, and the girl opposite her suddenly drops to her knees and cries.
“Sayaka-chan,” The girl breathes, shaking her head, and suddenly, she remembers.
“Madoka.”
~
She looks completely different, as if she’s some sort of goddess. Knowing golden eyes instead of pink, impossibly long hair, and a flowing white dress. Translucent pink wings.
But that expression is identical to that girl who was her best friend in another time.
And she’s crying, kneeling on the floor, looking pathetic.
She goes down on her knees and puts her arms around her best friend.
Madoka returns her hug and whispers in her ear, “You still died around this time… That did nothing… Sayaka-chan, I’m so sorry…”
Sayaka pulls back, startled. “What are you talking about?”
Madoka smiles and wipes her tears. “Oh right, you don’t know, do you…”
And then tells Sayaka something she wouldn’t expect, at all.
Kyouko’s noble sacrifice (Oh, thank you, how sweet, Kyouko, that wasn’t helpful, but was certainly very romantic), Homura actually having good intentions and a tragic past, and Madoka’s ultimate wish. Apparently Sayaka’s now in Madoka’s heaven, and she’s- Madoka, of all people- the Law of Cycles.
So that’s why she looks like a goddess. She is one.
“Holy crap, Madoka, I never knew you had the guts to do that!”
And Madoka giggles, embarrassed, blushes, just like the old times.
