(Actually, I have said that I will spend today rewriting a chapter of my historical novel that is causing me a lot of trouble. So any excuse to do something else is a good excuse. Anyway, I love my dog)
I can't at the moment put his picture in, but Llew is an elderly Jack Russell, of the long-bodied type with red markings. He is about 17 1/2, and getting a bit slow, but as intelligent as he ever has been, which is too much for peace of mind. Consider this: I bought an Easter egg for him to steal so that he would leave mine alone. One night a couple of months ago he was really sick all over the place; I was concerned and sympathetic - until next morning, when I discovered that he had got down from the shelf a 100 g block of Green & Black's Maya Gold organic dark chocolate. That day I was concerned but not sympathetic. At that time, my reaction to comments like "chocolate is dangerous for dogs' health" tended towards "Too right it is if I catch the little bastard at it again." So he gets doggie chocs in an attempt to distract them but he would still prefer Maya Gold.
He rather likes coming camping with me in the camper van. He curls up in the front with his harness on and when the van stops he's in a new place, usually with lots of grass and trees, and nearly always with new people to make a fuss of him. Tethering him is a pain because he has a real genious for macrame and cat's cradles, and half the time I have to unfasten his lead and refasten it after disentangling it.
He has now got used to being an only dog; he was 13 when his father died, and his father had kept him very firmly under his paw. Afterwards Llew tried for the leader of the pack role, which I had to explain in pidgin dog was a position that was already taken. He initially tried standing in the middle of the kitchen shouting "Go and get my food, woman!" which got him exactly nowhere. He then switched to cute, and I'm a sucker for cute: he taps dolefully on his dish when it's empty and he thinks it shouldn't be. This can lead to dialogues of the "what part of "more do you not understand?""what bit of "no" do you not understand?" type, but it is still more effective. It can also be useful on long journeys; if he gets thirsty he has been known to tap on a water bottle.
Okay, over to the rest of you... if any!
ETA: Looks like I can put some piccies in. Here goes...
