Great idea for a community. I'm always up to discovering new artists that I otherwise would never have heard of. So I guess I'll name a few of my favorite bands for you to check out if you haven't already heard of them.

Butterfly Boucher Concert May. 2nd, 2004 @ 04:06 am

She may be classified as pop but she is clearly pure rock. Prior to her last concert I attended, Jason Mraz (who is a great performer in his own rights) was my all time favorite concert due to his excellent stage presence. However, as of April 29 Butterfly Boucher stole his position with ease. I have never seen such a splendid stage presence until that night. I must admit that I have seen my share of performers too… (Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Dixie Chicks, just to name a few). This girl has what it takes to not only rule the charts in the future, but to have a nice long career as well. The entire concert can be described as stellar through and through. Musically Butterfly took control of the bass and the band rocked the place with confidence. She indeed knows how to shine. She performed a wonderful rendition of “A Walk Outside” (One of her songs off her recently released album “Flutterby”) it was just amazing. One can tell that these people enjoy what they do and why they do it. Butterfly was interactive with the audience between songs making the concert even more enjoyable.

Butterfly will be performing in Chicago on the 4 of May at Shubas Tavern and in New York, New York at the Mercury Lounge on May 5. In addition, this summer she will be touring with Sarah Mclachlan.

So I would suggest attending any of these concerts for some high quality ear candy. If you haven’t heard any of her music you can check it out at http://www.butterflyboucher.com ,and if you have heard of her you better go because it is a show that should not be missed.

- anyway, sounds like you're going into music journalism and being pro-active about it, which is great =) Here's a few things I've been listening to that you may find interesting: Erin McKeown, who's not new, but who I love (see pic on my livejournal =) ) and who's terrific live; loving the Jolie Holland CD Catalpa, especially the whistling solo on track 2; jaymay at www.trulyjaymay.com; and http://www.emilmcgloin.com/, who's couple of mp3s on his site sound very good.

And you probably know this already, but if you hadn't come across it yet, The Magnetic Fields' 69 Love Songs is a must.

That's enough from me for now =)

Nellie Mckay Apr. 10th, 2004 @ 04:22 pm

Lastly for today I would like to mention Nellie McKay (pronounced M-kie). This girl has probably the most unique and versatile sound I have heard this year. She has a voice from maybe the 40’s jazz era, but has tendencies to almost rap in some of her music. It is just something to be heard, kind of difficult to describe. Her website is http://www.nelliemckay.com . She has some music available on her website through npr.com and there are downloads at http://www.nelliemckay.net/videos.html

» Part Time Heroes
There seems to be a South Carolina influence today, as the next band that I would like to mention hails from there as well. This band is Part Time Heroes. Their sound is great and their songs catchy and melodic. You can visit their site and hear their sound at http://www.parttimeheroes.com . I went to high school with two of these guys so I know they are wonderful people and they deserve to make it big. My favorite song of theirs is “Sorry Sarah”. Just check them out they're good, promise.
» Butterfly Boucher
Another artist I am really liking right now is Butterfly Boucher (pronounced bouch-er). Here is the review of her CD “Flutterby” that I left on MSN Entertainment webpage.

I would highly recommend “Flutterby” to all. The first time I listened to it I was in complete awe of the sounds that were surrounding me. Butterfly has created something very unique and something very much her own. She taps in on some captivating sounds and melodies throughout. As a result, “Flutterby” is one of those CD’s where you smile through the entire album; it kind of gives you a natural high (think of the feeling you get when you hear your favorite song on the radio). Moreover, this is my listening experience in a nutshell. Lyrically…moving, truthful, and insightful. Instrumentally…diverse, inventive, pleasing. Vocally…smooth, refreshing, and pure.

-There is a ton of talent packed on this CD. Don’t let it pass you by.-

Butterfly’s website is http://www.butterflyboucher.com . Again I would encourage you all to take a peek and listen to some of the songs that are on the site. She will be touring with Sarah Mclachlan this summer and just recently finished a tour with the Barenaked Ladies. I had the chance to meet Butterfly and her manager as well, and they were quite kind also. They even gave me some tips on getting started in the music business, I was very appreciative.
» Need to Breathe
This past Thursday night a couple of friends and I decided that we would head down to Nashville to a little bar called The End to see if we would be lucky enough hear any good music. Lo and behold we did find a good sound; the name of the band that we thoroughly enjoyed goes by the name of Need to Breathe. This band is from South Carolina and has a great deal of potential in their hands. Two of the stand out songs keep playing in my head are “Sweet Talker” and “Hollywould.” Their sound is rather unique, but their stage presence is stellar. I briefly had the chance to meet all of the band members and they seemed to be very kind and down to earth gentlemen. I would highly recommend visitors to go check out their website at http://www.needtobreathe.net . I believe you can check out their sound from the website. There seems to be a player and the bottom of the screen. However, I could not get it to work, but my internet is often sketchy. But it is still definitely worth a visit. We will all probably be hearing of these guys in the near future.

Oh, and if you sign up to be a breather tell them that Holly Gray introduced you to their music.
» So...let's get this thing fired up.
Welcome one and all to the community. I hope that lots of people become interested and share their music finds on the board. It is open to all that enjoy music. Please feel free to share what you will and I look forward to meeting lots of fellow music fans.

Best wishes,

Holly
