What Does Love Really Look Like:
Recognizing Genuine Love in a Superficial World

By Joyce Meyer

Love is more than just patting each other on the back in church and saying ‘I love you with the love of the Lord.’ Those are nice words but what do they really mean?

( cut for spaceCollapse )

Meyer, Joyce. "What Does Love Really Look Like." Enjoying Everyday Life (2009): 4-7.

[Any typographical errors you may find are not a representation of Joyce Meyer or Joyce Meyer Ministries, as this was hand typed by me from an article in her Enjoying Everyday Life magazine.]

jesla @ 02:32 pm: If you could say just ONE prayer...
If you could only say one prayer to God, what would it be?

Mine would be: THANK YOU.
As in...
thank you for sending Jesus, your son.
thank you for choosing me.
thank you for saving me.
thank you for protecting me and my family.
thank you for not giving up on me.
thank you for blessing me.
thank you for everything.

godsprincessdbp @ 09:11 pm: My turn, now! :-)
1. My name is Diana, and I'm 26 years old.
2. Born in Hawaii, raised in Long Beach, CA/Orange County, CA, now living in Las Vegas, NV
3. I was randomly channel surfing one morning, because I got bored with the tape recordings from my church's services, and all I remember hearing was "what about me? what about me? what about me?" LOL! And I have been hooked ever since.
4. My favorite book is "Battlefield of the Mind," hands down. CD is "Breaking Free from Religious Attitudes." I don't have a DVD yet from her... I will, though soon. I hope, anyways.
5. Not really learned, but it was an indication that I needed to move on from the church I was serving God in at the time to the church that I'm at now. Basically, it doesn't matter what you wear, what's on your skin (i.e. tattoos), what color your hair is, etc... what matter is how is your relationship with God and how much you love and want to serve Him. Because at the end of the day, this is all that matters.

A'ight.... who's next? :-)

wildly_blessed @ 09:11 pm: Okay, I'll Go Next . . .
1. I'm Barbara and I'm 39 years old.
2. I'm from the Dallas Texas area.
3. I first found out about Joyce Meyer because I saw my mom watching her. Of all the religious programming that my mother watches, here was a program where I could join her. Very interesting, funny, and, best of all, really to the point. It became a little tradition with my mother and me for a while and now I watch her/go to her conventions/and buy her CDs/DVDs by myself.
4.  My favorite book by Joyce is a tie: "Beauty For Ashes", and "Battlefield of the Mind." Both are absolutely must-have books. I had them both several years ago and then after reading and re-reading them I eventually gave them away. Recently, I had to buy them again. This time, they're not going anywhere! My favorite CD, I forget the title but I'm guessing is something like "How To Defeat The Devil." In it, she talks about pleading the blood of Christ over any 'doors' that may have been opened to the devil and sealing the doors closed forever.
5. One thing I've learned from Joyce: God loves me! Regardless of my past and regardless of how other people have treated me. He is there with me always and He, well, loves me. (When I started watching her I was a new Christian and really needed the basics drummed home to me.)

Now it's your turn!

jesla @ 01:54 pm: So people are joining but not POSTING....
Hey everyone! I see that people are joining but NOT POSTING. (hint, hint)
Start posting!

Tell me about yourselves.
1. How old are you?
2. Where are you from?
3. How did you find out about Joyce Meyer?
4. What is your favorite book/CD/DVD by Joyce?
5. What is one thing you have learned from her?

OK...since you insist... I will start.

1.I am 36.
2. I live in Texas.
3. I found out about Joyce while having the worst year of my life in 2008. At the bookstore one day in February I happened to pick up a book by another woman, and a book called BATTLEFIED OF THE MIND by Joyce Meyer. I was trying to decide which one to get because I was desperate to turn my depression and my mind around. My husband read the back of both books and handed me Joyce's. "Try this one." So I got Joyce's book...and read it over and over. I NEVER realized that I can choose my own thoughts! That book started turning things around for me. Then I looked up her website... then, WOW, she was in my area for a conference so I went. The addiction started!
4. My favorite CD is probably the one on HOPE. I can't remember exactly what its called because I have SO many CD's... it might be called The Power of Hope...it is in my CD player at home right now.
5. One thing I learned is to speak the word of God out loud. So on a daily basis (or as often as I remember, sometimes several times a day, sometimes every couple days) I go around saying the affirmations I have written in my Bible, which are based on verses. Such as. "I lend to many nations but never have to borrow." "I am the righteousness of God in Christ." "I am blessed." etc. It has been really helpful.
How about YOU?

jesla @ 09:40 am: New Year, New You
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm ready to put 2008 and all its fears, failures, aches, and pains behind me.  My goal this year is to have peace in my life. How about anyone else?

My family got me some CDs from Joyce Meyer for Christmas but they haven't arrived yet  (the order was supposed to come for Christmas, but didn't) so I"m still waiting anxiously awaiting my late Christmas surprise.  Something that really helped me last year was discovering Joyce's teachings, as well as re-discovering Beth Moore.

My plans this year are to spend more time in prayer and to learn more about Jesus. I really want to have more peace. I just need peace so badly..

How about anyone else?

jesla @ 12:55 am: Looking for Joyce Meyer Fans!

I realize that it may take a while to get this community started, but if you find it and you are a fan of Joyce Meyer, please share it with others!, and please join I am looking for other Christians to talk to, people who love Joyce Meyer, people who love Jesus, and people who are looking to dicuss important topics like God.  The JoyceMeyer.org website STILL doesn't have forums/chat for people to post for (and I have been praying and asking!) so while I patielty keep on praying and waiting, I thought I would start a place for Christians to gather together to talk.
Please see
www.joycemeyer.org if you are wondering who this woman is and what she stands for.
I would love to get together to talk with people about the JMM minisries, the conferences, the annual Women's Conference, the teaching tapes (and all the thousands of topics they cover!) , Jesus, Christianity, the Bible, and Enjoying Everyday Life, as well as make Christian friends.
You must be a member to post.

People that post here will understand these precepts:

God loves you and wants you to know Him so He can fill you with peace and give you real life -- forever.

The Bible says::

  • Because of our Lord Jesus Christ, we live at peace with God (Romans 5:1)
  • God loved the people of this world so much that He gave His only son, so that everyone who has faith in Him will have eternal life and never die (John 3:16).

Jesus said:

  • "I came so that everyone would have life, and have it in its fullest" (John 10:10).

Since God planned for us to have peace and real life right now, why are so many people hurting or angry inside?

2. Our Problem...Separation From God

God's Purpose... Peace and Life

God created us in His own image so we can know Him personally and have a joy-filled life. He did not make us as robots to automatically love and obey Him, but gave us a will and a freedom of choice. Since the beginning of time, we have chosen to disobey God and go our own willful way. We still make this choice today. This results in separation from God and ends in misery.

The Bible says:

  • All of us have sinned and fallen short of God's holiness (Romans 3:23).
  • The result of unforgiven sin is death. But God's gift is eternal life given by Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).

The Bible says that disobeying God results in being separated from Him.

Our attempts can never unite us with God. Through the ages, people have tried many ways to bridge this gap and reach God -- without success.

The Bible says:

  • Adam sinned, and that sin brought death into the world. Now everyone has sinned, and so everyone must die (Romans 5:12).
  • You may think you are on the right road and still end up dead (Proverbs 14:12).

There is only one way to reach God.

3. God's Remedy...The Cross

God's Purpose... Peace and Life

Jesus Christ is the only answer to this problem. He is the only One who can bring us back to God. He died on the Cross and rose from the grave, paying the penalty for our sin and bridging the gap between God and people.

The Bible says:

  • There is only one God, and Christ Jesus is the only one who can bring us to God (1 Timothy 2:5).
  • Christ died once for our sins. An innocent person died for those who are guilty. Christ did this to bring you to God
    (1 Peter 3:18).
  • But God showed how much He loved us by having Christ die for us, even though we were sinful (Romans 5:8).

God has provided the only way -- we must make the choice.

4. Our Response...Give Ourselves to Christ

.
Our Response... Give Ourselves to Christ

We must trust Jesus Christ to forgive our sins and determine to obey Him for the rest of our lives. That way we can know God and find peace again.

The Bible says:

  • So you will be saved, if you honestly say, Jesus is Lord, and if you believe with all your heart that God raised Him from death. God will accept you and save you, if you truly believe this (Romans 10:9-10).

Is there any good reason why you cannot turn your life over to Jesus Christ right now?

How to give your life to Christ:

1. Admit you are a sinner and need forgiveness.

2. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the Cross and rose from the grave.

3. Through prayer, confess that Jesus Christ is the only way to God and commit to live for Him for the rest of your life.
