holy wow, havent posted in a while!
i have read many books in the last months...

i read the new Sherrilyn Kenyon book, The Dream Hunter...BIG YAWN!  I was totally disapointed, I usually love her books, but this one was so boring, so predictable, pretty much just an awful filler until her next book which I really hope will pick up again on the main story that im sure all of her readers are waiting for!

i LOVE Stephanie Rowe...her books are sooo funny...I really do reccomend them...I bought...Must Love Dragons and He loves me, he loves me hot....so much fun!

That's about it from me....I'm (very slowly) working my way through the Harry Potter series....and I mean slow...I don't even think I get through a chapter a night!  It's hard with a 5 month old : )

Date me, baby, one more time- Stephanie Rowe

I actually really liked this one.  It was funny and very light hearted.  I laughed out loud to it, and couldn't put it down.
The sex was steamy, totally made me want it right then and there.  LOL.

This is what the publisher had to say about it...
"This delightful and witty paranormal romance debut features pretzel-eating dragons, cursed mathematicians, and a guardian of the Fountain of Youth in desperate need of a date"

full moon rising- keri arthur
this holiday season i got to work at chapters where i can get advanced reading copies : )   so although this book doesnt come out for a few more weeks, i got to take it home and read it.

maybe i just dont like paranormal romance any more.  its just not doing anything for me.  or maybe all of the ones i read are too similar.  like its the same story only with different names.

so this is about Riley a half werewolf half vampire...a "dhampire".  she discovers her twin brother is missing and needs to go find him.  in the mean time she has met Quinn, a 1200 year old vamp.  (oh goodness, im so not good at explaining things...)
they find her brother and also discover that someone has been trying to clone unhumans and also mix them together to make half breeds so obviously, this cant be and that person has to be stopped.
all the while, its the week leading up to the full moon so all of the werewolves are crazy horny and need to give in to their lust of fear becoming bloodlusty and killing people/whatever they want.

about the sex:
there is a good amount of sex and its not too bad.  didnt really get my heart pounding much, but the whole time i read the book (took me about 7 hours today) my baby has been kicking my insides constantly.  soooo i guess he/she liked the sex bits very much, LOL.

i wish authors would spice things up a bit.  im dispointed and i want to read something new and more interesting than hunting down someone and having sex everywhere.

i am unsatisfied.  lol.

Breath of Magic...
...by Theresa Medeiros, is a time-travel story which starts in witch-hunting America with a young cute girl who wants to do magic, and includes modern New York, and a cynical billionaire who wants to prove and disprove the existence of it...the story was quite enjoyable, had a medium-quantity, tasteful smooch/porn factor, and was good enough that I expect to read her others, some of which I understand are based around fairytales...

a sizzling smoochie!
Penelope & Prince Charming, by Jennifer Ashley...

...this was actually quite amusing, and seemed very very very heavy on the sex-and-smooch side, and they have a lot of fun and are pretty daring in their behaviours, so don't say I didn't warn you (quick idea of sex-and-smooch ratio: pages 1-3, bondage sex with somebody whom he has no feelings for; pages 17-19, completely virginal heroine sees man and makes up fantasies; page 27, after carrying her away on a manly and robust horse, super-dishy gentleman requests nudity in public, and she thinks it's a good idea although she's pretty much fainting from his nearness, and from then on there is pretty much not a moment without something erotically entertaining to somebody). On the plus side, they get along well, and he sounds like a babe, and they are not repressed or too dull and mainstream. On the other hand, the magic is sort of stuck in there to provide the theme of 'magic', but none of it seems actually like magic, just a prophecy here and a guy who turns into a demon or whatevehaveyou there...not so disappointing, but more like a regency romance with a bit of 'supernatural' thrown in. Her scenes of fighting or violence could also use a martial arts class or two: the guy is supposed to be the target of the world's best assassins every day of his life, and yet these guys tend to express their professional skill in rather boring "and then suddenly something kind of blurry happened and she shrieked but it was over" sort of style...maybe I'm spoiled by other books where the author is a martial artist herself...

...in general, it was enjoyable, and she did try to have mature solutions to the political and mayhem aspects of the book...and the smoochy stuff seemed very genuine and naughty, and so I think readers will like that...

Shadow of the Moon- Rebecca York
I bought this book from the convinient store, lol.

Lance is a journalist/werewolf, and Savannah is an artist whos sister is in a coma.  Savanna thinks her coma has to do with a club called "the castle".    Lance and Savanna meet when she gets caught taking pictures outside of the club and he saves her (in wolf form, of course).

The club in the book is quite the place...basically its for rich people to come and play out their (erotic) fantasies.  But there is a demon-thing in the basement who feeds off of emotions and makes the clients go to far.

Stolen- Kelley Armstrong
Elena gets captured by people who are stealing supernatural beings (witches, shamans, half demons, vampires) in hope to learn how to become like them and change humanity.

Meh.  It was okay.  The first book was a lot better.  And not even because of the almost lack of sex, granted the ONE sex scene was pretty hot, lol.
It was almost like there was too many characters or something.  I'm not sure, but I don't really care to read the next 4 books now.  Maybe in the future, but not right away.

I need to read something awesome, but the library here sucks.  The romance section is litterally a shelf, and the bookstore here doesnt even have a romance section.  Good thing we're moving to Edmonton soon : )

Bitten- Kelley Armstrong

This book is narated by a woman named Elena.  She is the only female werewolf.  She became a werewolf when her fiance bit her.  She left her "Pack" to live on her own.  One day, the leader of the Pack calls her back because a group of "Mutts" (werewolves not in the Pack) are killing people and of course, the Pack doesnt want them too in fear of humans finding out about werewolves.

I wasn't expencting there to be any sex in this book, but there was : )  Just when I was getting over the fact that there wouldnt be, there was, and that made me happy : )  The sex is between two werewolves and it's pretty good, i guess.  considering i didnt think there would be any, it was good.

my husband thinks there is something wrong with me.  but i like my books to have a little passion in them ; )

i enjoyed this book, but not as much as my dark-hunter novels.

i have the next 5 or 6 in the series, i am pretty eager to read the next one which i believe is called "Stolen" and it will also be narated by Elena.

a community that might be of interest...
...A nice lady started fantasyphotos for people in any sort of dress-up or costume or ren faire outfit or...you get the idea, and why I think it might be of interest to the folks here. She has not been able to advertise it much, and so I said that I would try to help her. It's very new, so there is very little there yet, but please feel free to check it out and join, or mention it to others. I think the world's a better place when there are even more places to see folks in cool outfits, but maybe that's just me...Thanks!

Recommendations and Rants
A Great And Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray.
-An amazing book. It's beautifully and imaginitively written in the first person and present tense. Something that you get told cannot be done, but this proves that some people can do it. It is the story of Gemma, an aristocratic Victorian girl, who loses her mother and her entire world on her 16th birthday. She finds herself shipped from India to London, and then into boarding school for young ladies. Spence Academy is filled with secrets, and Gemma seems destined to uncover them, as she is plagued by visions and apparitions.
This is more a young adult fantasy, or a gothic novel, but it has elements of romance. It's also just an awesome book and more people need to read it.

Once Upon A Time by Marylyle Rogers.
Ever clean out your room and stumble on an old book you'd nearly forgotten about but that you have some fond memory of? So you take it out and read it and then want to throw it away and pretend you never heard of it in the first place?

Well, this wasn't that bad. At first.

Girls guide to vampires & incarnations of immortality
hello, i am back.  i went off and get married last month and we just got the net today :)

so the week leading up to my wedding i read "girls guide to vampires" by katie macalister (i decided to give this author another go) and it was okay.  katie is big on alpha-males and she throw's in a little mystery as well.  its about this woman who goes to *eeep, i cant remember where she goes* this country with her friend to find vampires and la la la, the woman becomes this one vamps "love" but she doesnt want to be because she loves someone else...eh, nothing special i dont think.  but i found the authors livejournal and she seems pretty cool...so maybe i will read another of her books, but now at the moment because...

my husband and i moved away and there is one book store and one library and neither have a romance section.  downfalls of a small town.  so, currently, i am reading peirs anothony's incarnations of immortality.  i read "on a pale horse" which was about Death/Thanatos and now i am reading "bearing an hour glass" which is about Time/Chronos.  I am really enjoying them.  lot's of magic and time travelling, but no sex.  it really through me off when i was reading it and it said "and then she kissed him" and that was it.  my mind was like ..."well, what kind of kiss, where, how long, then what..." so if you want some good sexing, dont read these books, but if you need a break from the sexing books, i reccomend these definatly.

ooooo, okay, goodnight :)

Night Play, a Dark-Hunter novel...
...I know these are very popular, and some in the series I like more than others.

You will probably like this if you like: big major monogamy, to the point of lifelong (eternal) impotence if it is not attained with the right partner; big large girls ('a solid size 18' in the text, and described as a zillion times more attractive than her thin gorgeous friends, who in other books turn out to be goddesses of beauty in their own right *shrug*...); big giant gorgeous men who turn into animals and will kill bad guys to protect good guys; big stinking swamps; big animal/human clans, some fighting and some getting along, which result in big politics; big bits of torture and fighting and killing; big southern stuff: southern accents, references to New Orleans, big alligators and big daemons from the big stinking swamps...

Linda Lael Miller vampire romances...
...I have read two in the series, Forever and the Night, and For All Eternity (and I don't know if there are more). They were fine, and more for readers of romance...she has written mostly regular romances. The one part that I had to just sing lalala noises during so it didn't bother me is when they would go hunting for humans *in the past*: pop out of their modern times, to victorian England or wherever, and kill somebody. Hmm, that is messing too much with history/time-linear time for me...if they kill somebody now-into-back-then, what about the kids that person would have had, or actions s/he would have done, etc.? This question is not addressed, so if that doesn't bother you, they're perfectly readable nice enough vampire stories invovling some of the same people in both books...

a saucy pair for you...ahem!
...I liked this pair of books from Lisa Cach. The first was called Come To Me, and is about a female sexual dream demon whose job is basically to make the unhappy happy with sexual dreams. It is not nasty or creepy. However, in the start of this first book, she makes a bad choice and sends somebody a dream that affects the lives of innocent people (by making him whacko), and then the second book, from the point of view of the male dream demon who had persuaded hjer to send this unwise dream (Dream of Me) follows that story and eventually interlaces with it. I thought they were enjoyable, and they did have plenty o' romance and sex (and the one dream that caused the man to be whacko was pretty wild, more an orgy with an extra kink or two that some people might not like too much if they're only into the monogamy theme in these books). I felt they were fun when I read them last year...she has also written other books which for me were not as fun, but then again there are many of hers that I have not yet read...

another one I didn't like...
Forbidden Magic, by Cheyenne McCray (which appears to be her real name)...

what did I like? The beginning of the book/introductory chapter was somewhat interesting, that 'witches' in this story are hereditary from the druids, and have some special powers which include physical stuff (a great deal of hand-waving that makes things float or blow up, etc.), and that they only practice 'white' magic versus 'grey' (which appears to be somewhat manipulative, although used to help others), and 'black', which is killing and peeling guys for your own selfish ends.( Read more...Collapse )

Katie MacAlister- Hard Days Knight

Well, I went to the smallest book store ever and couldn't find a good ol' paranormal romance, so opted for this instead.

its about this woman, pepper who went to a rennaissance faire with her cousin in hopes to fall in love. the hero is Walker, and he is this great jouster who doesnt joust any more. ( Read more...Collapse )

Carved in Stone by Vickie Taylor...
...this is clearly part of a series, presumably the first book since I can't find anything about anything else she wrote, about a race of beings who protect humans but got sort of tricked into it a thousand years back, so some of them have bad attitudes, and some feel their role is to continue to help.
