FHE ideas needed! [Sep. 22nd, 2008|10:26 pm]
LDS Church

actobeytrust
I'm looking for some ideas for activities to do with a new convert family to help introduce them to Family Home Evening. And cool thoughts of things to do for two kids, a boy 8 and a girl 10, who have a pretty low attention span? Much obliged!

(Forgive the cross-posting to various groups. I'm just hoping to cast a broad net here.)

Why I Believe fireside and Video Testimonies [Jul. 29th, 2008|02:05 pm]
LDS Church

n8p40
Back in February, USAF 4-star General Bruce Carlson visited our ward/stake and spoke at a fireside entitled Why I Believe. He bore powerful testimony of his conversion and of the Gospel.

I recorded it for the stake history and finally got around to converting it to a Flash video so that we could post it and share it with friends.

We posted it to our website.

After reading Elder Ballard's article in the July Ensign, we've been trying to figure out how to use our site to share the gospel. Having posted Brother Carlson's video, we would like to explore the possibility of posting other things like this and also provide a way for Latter-day Saints to share their testimonies and we could host them on our site. We think it would be a good way to utilize multimedia, as Elder Ballard said, to bear testimony and share the gospel. It would be sort of a YouTube idea for LDS.

Take a look at the video and if anyone is interested in sharing, please let me know.

enjoy the video..

Sharing Missionary Experiences [Apr. 15th, 2008|06:19 pm]
LDS Church

n8p40
Elder M. Russell Ballard recently challenged members of the Church to utilize multimedia as a missionary tool so we have just updated www.RestorationMercantile.com with the capability for users to share missionary moments and experiences in the hope that all who visit will be edified.

Search engines rely on keywords to find sites and Google's search algorithm checks to see how often a site is updated to ensure it's current. By adding missionary experiences frequently, those who are searching the internet will more likely find what they are looking for.

We wanted our website to be more than just a place to sell ties. The whole reason we started making LDS-themed neckties in the first place is to spark interest and have people ask questions about the Church. So, heeding Elder Ballard's counsel, we wanted to take it to the next level.

Other sections that have been added are Church News, A Prophet's Voice (quotes by general authorities) and downloadable LDS resources. We plan to update the site frequently so if you have any ideas, please let us know.

Please take a moment to go to www.RestorationMercantile.com and click on Missionary Moments to share your experience. Also, pass along to your LDS friends so that we can get the word out and begin to build a strong LDS community that not only edifies other visitors but shines light on who we are as Latter-day Saints while strengthening our own testimonies.

17 years later. [Apr. 7th, 2008|11:47 am]
LDS Church

krystaface
So 17 years ago today I was baptized as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It was a pretty lifechanging day I'd say.

In those 17 years I have been ALL OVER the board of where I stood with the church. I was quite the zealot for a few years, other years I was hanging by a thread and sometimes even broke that thread and ran the opposite direction.

I'd like to proudly state that today, 17 years later, I can actually remember that feeling I had the day I was fully immersed in the waters of baptism by my father. It was a wonderful day, and I felt like i could handle anything. Even today, I have the same testimony I did as a young girl. I know that the church is true, and I know that God speaks revelation unto those who seek it. I believe that there is only one true church on the face of the earth and that it is Headed by a man appointed by the Lord, himself. I know that the boy Joseph Smith truly begun the restoration of this Gospel and without him, it would not exist today.

I am so grateful for my membership in such a strong, immovable religion. I am so excited to serve a full-time mission and devote 18 months of my life to building up the saints, and redeeming souls. I cannot wait to serve and meet the wonderful people that will leave life long impressions on me.

Hello, sleepy little group! (By the way, are there other, more active LJ groups around for us Latter-day Saints?)

I just wanted to say, I got my first calling on Sunday. Ward Mission Leader. I think I'm still in a bit of shock because I keep walking around with the big smile on my face. I'm probably not supposed to be this happy about this...or am I? ;)

[Current Mood |clean and happy]

Hello Brothers and Sisters!

Even though this community seems a little quiet, I figured I'd still post a little update here.

I was baptized last week, on Saturday, the 3rd of November, and I was confirmed on Sunday the 4th of November. I've had so many really wonderful experiences, and I'm working on getting my thoughts together on my new journal. So...hopefully soon I'll be posting there more. :)

So i was perusing the podcast directory earlier this week, and I found an AWESOME podcast called "Mormon Potluck". It is 4 guys (all from the NW) discussing hot topics within the church. They haven't been around too long, but are insanely funny and informative!

Here is their website, give it a listen!
