Hello!

I'm back in school again, this time getting my Master's in Musical Theatre Writing. So that means I will be writing LOTS AND LOTS AND LOOOOOTTTTTTSSSSSS of lyrics and scenes and the like.

Upon my program's request, all of these will be friendslocked, at least until I am out of the program or possibly longer. So if you would like to read my grad school work, please feel free to add this journal as a friend and I will add you back as soon as possible.

Thanks!

I rewrote the Grace monologue.

Comments are welcome, especially if you read the original monologue which is towards the top of the page here.

Here is the second draft first half of the second draft of the play i am writing. The title is now gravesongs.

All the parts are complete, meaning they all have a beginning, middle, and end. The only part that i'm planning on doing significant changes to is the murder monologue (grace). I don't think i'm going to add any more parts.

Comments, etc are always welcome.

( about 15 pagesCollapse )

EDIT: LJ claims my post is too large. Screw you LiveJournal. Here is the second half.
Thanks for reading!

hello friends. it's been a while.

i haven't really written since graduating college two and a half years ago. fortunately, i have been given the privilege of writing a play for the interns at the theater where i work. it will be performed on a professional stage, as part of cincinnati's fringe festival. this is kind of a big deal.

here is the first draft. it is a collection of short scenes and monologues specifically written for five women. all but one of the scenes are unfinished. i'm a little light on stage directions so feel free to ask for an explanation. feedback would be extremely appreciated.

i don't have a title right now but the working title is Gravestones.

i've been writing. i just haven't been posting.

but as many of you may know, my entire life these past few months has been eaten, nay, DEVOURED by that beast known to us eugene lang college seniors as Senior Work.

but now it is completed. for your reading pleasure, here is Lang! The Musical!

for those of you who don't know, this is a musical written about life at my school, eugene lang college, in new york city. so there might be a lot of jokes that you don't get unless you go to my school. the idea is that it is an on-site performance, actually starting outside of loeb hall (one of the dorms), travelling down 12th st, and ending up in the lang courtyard.

there will be a reading on wednesday, may 10 in room 001 (the basement) of 65 W 12th st at 6pm. the actual performance will take place on friday, may 10 at 4pm, starting outside of loeb hall, 135 E 12th st between 3rd & 4th aves. if you can make it, please do!

if you only want to read the songs, i've placed the beginning of each of them under its own convenient lj-cut.

by all means, leave comments, feedback, etc.

this is the second draft of the third story i wrote this semester. i'm not sure if this is the way i want this idea to go, but i'm fairly pleased with how it turned out. still needs a lot of work, though, and any comments, questions, and suggestions are welcome. please forgive the paragraph spacing.

oh, and if anyone can think of a better title, that'd be great.

this is the incomplete first draft of the third story i wrote this semester. the idea was still in its formative stages, but i needed something to turn in, so here's what i came up with. feedback is always wanted and appreciated, and please forgive the spaces between paragraphs.

this is the completed second draft of the story just posted.

i do intend to keep working on this. questions, comments, suggestions? there are a few things i already know need to be changed, such as the way other people find out about Lani's condition, but any other comments are welcome.

i have been writing this semester, just haven't taken the time to post anything.

i worked on a story from last semester. the first draft can be found here. this is the first six pages of the second draft, which i changed when i continued, but here it is anyway. again, please forgive the spaces between paragraphs; i don't know how to indent on LJ.

not a very good story, but it was damn fun to write. and to be honest, i rather like it.

the assignment was to write a revenge story.

i need a better title.

questions, comments, suggestions?

(once again, please forgive the spacing between paragraphs. the pre tag doesn't seem to want to work.)

coming soon: revisions of recent stories. woo fun.

this one is supposed to have been a triangle story, between three people, with some kind of pull between the three. i didn't quite use three people. the story didn't turn out the way i wanted, but it's a first draft, and it's appearing to be on its way.

sorry for the length, it's rather long.

comments, suggestions, questions?

i wrote this when i was sick, so if it feels a little incomplete, it's because i preferred laying down to writing.

but anyway. exploring a new style. let me know how it works. it's about four pages long, double-spaced. suggestions, questions, comments?

by request, here is the entire play. i've tweaked it a bit in places, but otherwise it's pretty much the same. it is 23 pages long.

i've tentatively titled it The Light is Above Us.

comments and suggestions are, as always, welcome.

oh man. i am having an amazing time writing this.

okay, this is the second half of the play i'm writing this semester. the first part can be found here.

okay. major question: does the ending work?
alternatively, are the characters strong enough to make this ending work? or should i revamp it entirely? i kind of don't want to change it, but any suggestions would be really appreciated.

any questions or comments? i'm very excited about the editing process. please let me know any suggestions you have.

oh, and any ideas for a title?

( about thirteen pages.Collapse )

this was possibly the hardest fiction assignment i've ever had to cough up.

four sections, in non-chronological order, with a recurring character in all four parts. it was hard for me because i tend to start from an image, and go from there. here, i had to plan more thoroughly than i'm used to, and struggle to have some kind of movement and purpose, and it was just really hard. i did it though, for better or for worse.

i couldn't have done it without the inspirational aid of b_bootsisdead.

anyway, i don't like the way the second and third parts turned out. and the fourth didn't quite work the way i'd planned. and the first needs some work. oh hell, the whole damn thing needs a good scrubbing. i'm looking forward to rewriting this and making it good, but here's what i have so far if you want to give some suggestions. they'd be greatly appreciated and taken into account.

i am allowed to add another section. do you think i should?

damn lj's refusal to indent my paragraphs!

( four stringsCollapse )

the assignment was to write a family story taking place in a small space in a short amount of time. it had to be written in first person and present tense.

this was terrific fun to write.

how does it work? questions, comments, suggestions? oh, and any other ideas for a title? i don't like this one so much.

( Wake Up. about 3 1/2 pagesCollapse )

NOTE: livejournal doesn't like indented paragraphs. so, all of my paragraphs will be separated by a space instead of indents. this is unfortunate, but ah well.

as always, thanks for reading.

well, i'm back at school, and i'm taking a fiction class and a playwriting study. so that means i'll be updating once again.

this is a story for my fiction class. the assignment was to write a story in three parts, in non-chronological order. one of the parts had to be a physical description, the other two autobiographical. i changed one of the names to protect the innocent.

i don't really like the way the second and third parts turned out. i like where they're going, but i think they need a bit more work. my ending especially needs revision. what do you think?
any questions? comments? suggestions? feedback?

thanks for reading!

comments, suggestions?

this is the beginning of a story that i have to work on for the rest of the semester. it is allowed to be up to 20 pages in length. so far so good.

questions:
i don't really have an ending at this point. suggestions? ideas that might lead me to an ending? themes you see running through the piece that may suggest an ending?
are the characters interesting?
any general comments?

thanks for reading!

( approx pg length: 9Collapse )

here is a monologue for my playwriting class. the assignment was to "write a poetic monologue for one of the characters in your play (only i don't have a play yet, so i just made a character up) where they use poetic speech to express themselves. in other words, your character should say very directly and in 'blown-out' expressive language exactly what they mean, think and feel."

so...did i do that? i'm not sure...well, i like how it turned out, anyway. suggestions, comments?

thanks for reading!

here is the second draft of Bemused.
comments and suggestions, no matter how nit-picky, are welcomed, and very much needed. but i do realize that it's freaking long for internet reading.

questions:
i changed the beginning a lot, and cleaned up some of the writing in the rest of it, and hopefully made things clearer. did i take out anything that you think i shouldn't have? did i add something that is just plain stupid?
are the motivations and the story coming across clearly?
what are the places that could use a bit more work? the places that are working well?

anyway. here it is. thanks for reading! :)

( yeah, it's 26 pages long. sorry!Collapse )

I had to pick a photograph with people in it and write a scene from it.
( voici la photo.Collapse )

dunno how i feel about this scene i wrote. i wanted to do something with a serious feel to it.

it's certainly not complete. i'd say if i go back to this, it will be the beginning of something, as opposed to a piece in and of itself.

anyway. questions:
how's the style working out?
does my repetition work, or is it just...too repetitive?
is it interesting? do you want to know what's going on? or do you not care?
any suggestions or comments?

thanks for reading!

questions:
how does the ending work?
any comments/suggestions?
