11:25AM - Writer's Block: Happy Turkey Day!

What are you most thankful for?

Today I am very thankful for my friends and family. I am also thankful for the small luxuries - real cream in my coffee, a fresh packages of sponges for cleaning up the mess I'm about to make, good pots and pans to mess up, and new fuzzy socks.

3 years ago, I was not so fortunate. I was one of the myriad of folks in 2008 who had lost heath, job, house, nearly lost my apartment, and was facing bankruptcy. I moved to a town that had faced a 1000 year flood of catastrophic proportions (Cedar Rapids).
I hope I will never forget my gratitude to the kindness and sympathy of the human services workers at DHS, IWFD, & IWVR, who helped me get food stamps, and a much needed leg up to get back on my feet enough to get into a job and start moving forward again.
This year once again- I'm putting on a full turkey dinner with friends, and getting signed up for my companies 401k program. Most stuff is getting better, slowly, one day at a time.

I am thankful I can start to see a future that has some potential. And grateful beyond words for *All* of those in my life who have stood with me through these challenging times.

So, This year I am making the pledge that for every $20 I have spent on the meal I am preparing -I will donate 1 GOOD item to a local food pantry, shelter, animal shelter, or soldier family support program. This year, this moment, I am one of the fortunate with a meal and sides going in the oven to share with friends and family. I pledge to pass on what I can to those with less this holdiay season.

Brightest Blessings to All!

10:22PM - Writer's Block: A few good men

Which U.S. President has made the most positive impact?

George Washington.

He stepped down after one term - when he could have gone against what they fought for;
and declaired himself a king.

12:41PM - Writer's Block: Time for change

If you could ask the leader of your country anything, what would it be?

Dear Mr. President of the United States - I have a question:

We often see you with a teleprompter.
Even during things that are supposted to be more 'conversational', 'press conference' or 'interview' style speaking.
So... Who is actually running the telepropmter -- & the country?

3:59PM - Writer's Block: Riddle me this

What is something that just doesn't make sense to you?

Why so many people have an opinion or complaint about the Government;
and yet, so few actually vote.

9:03AM - quick note

Will probably not be making "Fields of Cloth and Gold" after all.
Pretty bummed, was looking forward to this one. :(

May or may not head out tomorrow AM, but more likely 'not'.

Anywhoo - Hope everyone has a great time!

9:30PM - Another meme - keeping my brain entertained while the laundry does its thing

Rules: Bold all of the following TV shows which you've ever seen 3 or more episodes of in your lifetime. Underline a show if you're positive you've seen every episode of it. If you want, add up to 3 additional shows (keep the list in alphabetical order), but you must delete one show for each one that you add.

( List under cutCollapse )

Ya know - I have watched a lot of TV over the years *chagrin*

9:18AM - using my 'phone a friend' option... looking for a few good lines!

Trying to find good (bad!) diction lines in songs and poetry-

Two examples I can think off the top of my head:

- Weep oh mine eyes and cease not (see snot)
- There dwells up high a stone troll (a pious stone troll)

what are some others?

I'm using these in my advanced 'performance techniques' class this weekend :)

Thanks!!!

12:12AM - Writer's Block: I'm just a bill, yeah I'm only a bill

If you could change or create a new law, what would it be, and why?

I think I'd like to change or alter the law of gravity.

If I could alter gravity at a whim, I could make furniture easier to move and clean around; I wouldn't fall down or drop things as much- or if I did, it would be easier to pick them back up. That and it would make a *really* interesting party trick.

Yeah- I could have written something serious about gay marraige or what not.
But from what I've read, that's been covered already :)

It was either that or requiring a dress code change for ALL politicians at all levels of government. Like NASCAR Drivers, they would be required to wear the logo(s) of their corporate sponsers on their jackets and other outer-wear.

11:00AM - Do not. (Open Entry)

Do not repost, quote, copy/paste/post, or link **anything** from my LJ to FB, Twitter, MySpace or any other social-media.
Consider this a blanket denial of permission.

I can't stop you- but I hope this is enough to put my feelings on the subject in plain text.

In return- I will not repost, quote, or link anything from *YOUR* LJ's to FB, MySpace, Twitter, or any other social-media.

Most people I know who still write here- do so because of the privacy settings, and the chance of REAL communication and conversation that lasts more then 140-426 characters on real life and what's going on. I know that's why I stay- and will continue to stay.

But I've had my LJ used against me- and had filtered posts sent off-list to the destruction of friendships and such. I'd prefer that not happen a third time.

So, yeah. Do not repost, quote, or link anything from my LJ to FB, Twitter, or any other social-media.

If you do not want others to link/repost your stuff - go to LJ Account settings, and adjust your privacy settings tab; the reposting to FB thing is towards the bottom.
You also might want to participate in the LJ Poll on this subject.

Many thanks.

...Now returning to my vacation and the adventures of the traveling coffee cup...

(AP) An Iowa egg producer is recalling 228 million eggs after being linked to an outbreak of salmonella poisoning. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said eggs from Wright County Egg in Galt, Iowa, were linked to several illnesses in Colorado, California and Minnesota. The CDC said about 200 cases of the strain of salmonella linked to the eggs were reported weekly during June and July, four times the normal number of such occurrences.

The eggs were distributed around the country and packaged under the names Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemp.

The eggs are packed in cartons containing six, 12 and 18 eggs with a variety of production codes ranging from 136 to 255 and plant numbers 1026, 14-13 and 19-46.

Production codes and plant numbers can be found stamped on the end of each egg carton.

The Food and Drug Administration is investigating the egg company.

8:05PM - Writer's Block: Instant wish

This one was kinda fun actually! Three things sprang to mind...

If you could have one--and only one--wish granted in the next five minutes, what would you wish? How do you think it would improve your life?

12:32AM - Writer's Block: Pet central

Some animal rights activists are fighting to replace the term 'owner' with 'guardian' to convey a more balanced relationship between a person and her or his pet. Do you agree or disagree with the importance of this mission?

"Dogs have owners. Cats have staff." (something I saw on either a t-shirt or a tea mug)

I disagree with the importance of this mission compared to a lot of other animal rights causes that are out there that need addressed with more time, energy, and urgency;
including (but not limited to):
- the idea of 'disposable' small pets (fish, turtles, snakes, lizards, hamsters, guini-pigs, rabbits...) needs quashed.
- the releasing of unwanted pets into the wild including dogs, cats, rabbits, snakes, lizards, and fish = invasive exotics anyone?
- the use of "goldfish bowls" for anything other then a single betta fish
- dog and rooster fighting is on the rise
- wild animals are just that, not domesticated. (AKA- leave large cats, wolves, and bears to the pros)
- 'Spay' and 'Neuter' is a must-do as a part of good animal care
...and so on.

“Men have forgotten this truth," said the fox. "But you must not forget it. You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.”

8:49AM - Happy Groundhog's Day Everyone!

(And a very Happy Imbolc/Candlemas to those who celebrate!)

Phil Says Six More Weeks!

Phil's official forecast as read February 2nd, 2010 at sunrise at Gobbler's Knob:

Hear Ye Hear Ye Hear Ye

On Gobbler's Knob on this glorious Groundhog Day, February 2nd, 2010, Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Prognosticator of all Prognosticators awoke to the call of President Bill Deeley and greeted his handlers, John Griffiths and Ben Hughes.

After casting a joyful eye towards thousands of his faithful followers, Phil proclaimed, "If you want to know what's next, you must read my text. As the sky shines bright above me, my shadow I see beside me. So six more weeks of winter it will be."

~Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, on the 124th Groundhog Day, February 2, 2010.

If Candlemas be fair and bright, Winter has another flight.
If Candlemas brings clouds and rain, Winter will not come again.
