I thought this program would be interesting to share here with the group

For all you night owls out there ;) I am one of those, so I will be up listening in on this. LOL

Tonight on Coast to Coast AM: Secret History of America

Ian Punnett welcomes geologist, author and researcher Scott Wolter, who'll discuss his groundbreaking research into the origins of the Kensington Rune Stone and its enigmatic Hooked X symbol.

Ever since 1898, when Olof Ohman, a Swedish immigrant working his fields in what is now Douglas County, MN, found the 202-lb., mysteriously engraved stone tangled in the roots of an uprooted tree, controversy has raged over the artifact’s authenticity. The stone, dated 1362, soon proved how difficult the search for the truth can be—and raised eyebrows over the possibility that North European explorers predated Columbus in America.

Second Hour: Researcher Steven St. Clair will talk about Rosslyn Chapel (In Scotland) and DNA evidence of Europeans in North America before the arrival of Columbus.

GrayWolf posting in Lore of the Celts
I haven´t really posted in this community before since I only recently stumbled across it, but I figured it would be a good time from a small introduction.

My name is Ingrid, and I live in Bangor, County Down in the beautiful Northern Ireland. My profession is Celtic arts, crafts and culture, amongst other things such as corsetry work. I´ve recently revamped the entire website, and as of today the shop has been opened. In there you´ll find some celtic replica jewellery, as well as hand crafted Torcs.

Curious, feel free to come inside and take a peek :)

Torcs and Mugwort

Rojagrl posting in Lore of the Celts
(Cross-posted to many groups)

I purchased a beautiful torc (made by Danny Hansen of www.craftycelts.com) and some mugwort smudge sticks at a gathering this weekend.

I am wondering if anyone has information about how torcs were used by the Celts (insular and/or continental), particularly information based on academic research/primary sources, although if you have information from other sources I am interested in hearing about that as well (just please cite sources whenever possible).

Mainly, I want to know how and when torcs were used, how they were dedicated, who they were worn by, how they were depicted in art, etc.

Re: the mugwort smudge sticks. There was a sign next to them saying that the Celts burned and used mugwort in a way similar to how American Indians use sage -- namely, for smudging/cleansing as a kind of purifying incense.

I am wondering if anyone has information about this use of mugwort (again, please cite sources if possible).

Thanks in advance.

Hello North Texas Irish Festival is almost upon us again. This is a great little festival for those close enough to attend. I highly recommend it.

http://www.ntif.org/

I saw Altan there one year when they were there. And I got to meet Maieread the singer/fiddler for the group. I was ecstatic as she was/is one of the women I would teach myself Gaelic songs from.

Anyway if you can make it I highly recommend it. Great little event to attend for all you Celtic/ Irish cravings/needs/obsessions. LOL

Thanks Will for the reminder.

Hello. I picked up guitar about six months ago and started learning. Most of the songs I have learned so far are celtic/irish stuff. As the friend who is teaching me who plays guitar knows all celtic/Irish tunes. We met in Irish class about 8 years ago. We were learning Gaelic songs and Irish together and now she is teaching me guitar LOL

Anyway found these links to Celtic Guitar style music in case there are any guitar players out there learning, advanced or whatever that might be interested.

Hope they are helpful

Finally found these lyrics after searching for forever for them.

Croí Cróga as sung by Clannad

(background chanting chorus)
Ohón óró fheiliró agus óchón oícheán óchán óchán oícheán fheiliró, fheiliró

Fuair rí na hAltana, Bás I ndairíre, Gan olc ar a tsaol seo.
Tháinig fear as a deisceart, Bhí Éamonn a shuí linn, Olc fada na crualach.
Chreid an slua, Breis agus ísleacht, ‘Way to Win’
Bhí dearmad air choíche, Radharc na héin, Seo finnscéal.

(background chanting chorus)
Ohón óró fheiliró agus óchón oícheán óchán óchán oícheán fheiliró, fheiliró.

Déag an rí, Gan olc ar a’ tsaol seo, Bhí n’teideal ag Éamonn.
Ohón fheiliró óchón.
Throid na hAltnaí, Daoine is Tiarnaí, Eatarthú féin.
Ohón fheiliró óchón.

Cuireadh go sciobail, A adhaigh sa s’cogaidh, Coireadh gan adhmad, Coireadh gan dóigh.
Crochadh tríocha, Tríocha gan uaisleacht, Agus buachaillín a bhí óg, Croí Cróga, Finnscéal Beo.
Ohón fheiliró óchón.

D’fháiscigh an mhaorgacht, Ó bliain na hAltana, Sé mbliain a bhí cróga, cróga gan dóigh.
Shuí ar a lá seo, comh cnéasta le coighleách, Scairt sí a shaoirse, Fadó bhí Cróga, Croí cróga.

(background chanting)
Ohón óró fheiliró agus óchón oícheán óchán óchán oícheán fheiliró, fheiliró.

Fuair rí na haltana bás I ndairíre, gan olc ar a tsaol seo, tháinig fear as a deisceart, Bhí Éamonn a shuí linn, Olc fada na crualach.
Cuireadh go sciobail, A adhaigh sa s’cogaidh, Coireadh gan adhmad, Coireadh gan dóigh.
Crochadh tríocha, Tríocha gan uaisleacht, Agus buachaillín a bhí óg, Croí Cróga, Finnscéal Beo.

(background chanting)
Óró feiliró, agus óró fheiliro, agus óró fhileiró agus óró oícheán x5
