I have been working on losing weight since having Kaitlyn. It's been a long, hard struggle, but it's coming off slowly and surely. I used to do Atkins, but this time around, it wasn't working (ie I wasn't losing weight) and I kept putting the weight on whenever I didn't follow it religiously. I then found Sparkpeople.com. It's a free weight loss/life goal site where you can track your food, exercise and life goals. Even my husband is on it, even though he doesn't need to lose any weight. When he started, he wanted to track his cholesterol. So you can even track that. This site has kept me motivated, even when I wasn't losing, and gotten me back on track when I thought I could do it by myself but kept fluctuating within the same pounds. edited post Hey all. I wasn't trying to advertise. I just wanted to share. I went ahead and took off the link to the site before anyone got upset. |

can you move your reversible car seat forward-facing? Daniel can sit up on his own and is getting very unhappy riding backward. The woman who keeps him said that he can be turned as soon as he is able to sit upright but I thought there was a weight limit for this? Also, when is it safe to take the food we cook and food process it for Daniel? He is getting bored with babyfood and loves the "samples" of what we give him. I am concerned that the seasonings we use may be too much for him, however. Daniel is getting his second tooth. I need to post some pictures since I haven't done so in forever. I can't believe its been 7 months already. I want another baby. We think we are going to start trying again when Daniel turns 1. I would prefer to start earlier but from everything I have read the recommended time is when he turns 16 months. Some sources have said 12 months is probably safe for a woman who had a c-section. So in March we go for round 3!!!! (And the last I might add.............) |

So, Kaitlyn's been "crawling" for awhile now (since she was 5 1/2 months). But this crawl is more of a move a couple paces forward and flop down. Get up and do it again. Yesterday she crawled normally, she pulled up to standing and she started to sit up on her own. All in one day. She LOVES to pull herself up to standing. She stands there holding on and just grins and giggles. She'll be cruising in no time with how she works! She's still doing everything today and nothing is safe anymore. I had stuff on the coffee table and she can reach it. *sigh* I'm in trouble now! X-posted |

well oliver hasn't had his 4 month well baby check yet because we just moved and i'm having some issue with the rat bastard doctors office the insurance company assigned him too so i don't know his height and weight yet, but i'm bored and had some new pictures so i figured i'd update about him now :) he's getting so big, it's just amazing to see. he's had his two front teeth coming in since he was about 2.5 months, but hasn't gotten anymore yet. he's still sleeping through the night, thank god! he woke up at night a few times right after we moved, but then he adjusted and went back to sleeping soundly. Right after we moved my grandmother died and I can't believe how well he handled all of that, i was amazed. I took him into the church for the funeral and he was pretty quiet the entire time, he let out one good loud cry, but I had a bottle waiting and then he just went right back to sleep. Even with all the people around who wanted to see him and hold him, he was great, he didn't get upset or anything, hardly any more crying then whats normal for him. So he weathers change well, which is a huge plus. He loves to "talk" to everyone, it's so cute. I think he likes to see how loud he can make himself yell, and I think sometimes he startles himself, but he's got a good loud voice. He has a noise he makes when he's happy, I think it's kind of a laugh, it sounds like he's saying "ah geeee", it's totally adorable, I love it. He does it a lot during diaper changes when I blow on his belly and give him kisses. He also wants to eat really badly, I can't eat in front of him, it makes me feel guilty! He stares at me and smiles and acts all cute and dances around in his bouncy seat and when that doesn't work he starts yelling at me and looking angry. He seems really taken with bottled water, whenever I drink water in front of him he reaches for the bottle, if I let him get his hands on it he tries to tip it right to his mouth, he's pretty smart that one. So I started giving him baby cereal a few days ago and he loves it, he keeps trying to grab the spoon and shove it into his mouth when i'm feeding him. and now the fun stuff, pictures!! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Popular Blogging Site Restricts Use of Breastfeeding Photos: LiveJournal cites images as 'inappropriate' and sends mothers to the virtual restroom. Contact: Carrie Patterson Executive Director, ProMoM.Org http://www.promom.org carrie@promom.org 678-513-6329 Popular Blogging Site Restricts Use of Breastfeeding Photos: LiveJournal cites images as 'inappropriate' and sends mothers to the virtual restroom. Wednesday, May 31st, 2006 - Women on the popular blog site LiveJournal are calling foul at the company’s decision to brand images of breastfeeding as ‘inappropriate.’ Many users of the site have joined together to urge LiveJournal’s parent company SixApart to address their concerns and reevaluate the policy. Small "userpics" of no more than 100 by 100 pixels represent LiveJournal members throughout the site. Users can define one of these icons as "default icon" which plugs it into the user's public profile. These default icons were originally not permitted to be ‘sexually explicit or graphically violent.’ Recently, icons which depicted breastfeeding were cited as being ‘inappropriate’ by the LiveJournal abuse team, a group of volunteers who monitor complaints on the site. After clarification was requested, LiveJournal changed their FAQ to reflect a no nudity rule and is claiming that icons with visible areola or nipple are not permitted. Whether or not areola is visible in a photograph is dependent on a number of factors, including skin tone of the mother and physical changes during pregnancy. Claimed Live Journal Abuse Staffer 'Erin' in a post on the site, "That's really a matter for the FCC to decide. LiveJournal's policies on this mirror what would be allowed on primetime TV or in a PG-13 movie." However, this is not true. The FCC does not consider the act of breastfeeding on television to fall under the definitions of indecency or obscenity. Breastfeeding is exempt from nudity laws throughout the United States as well as countries such as Canada. Advocates are urging LiveJournal to adopt the same criteria. "It is regrettable that LiveJournal has chosen to target breastfeeding mothers instead of standing up for the protection provided them by law," says Carrie Patterson, executive director of ProMom.org, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing public awareness and public acceptance of breastfeeding. Advocates state that the feeling that breastfeeding should be hidden only fosters the idea that the natural act of nourishing a child is scandalous. Breastfeeding bloggers who have refused to change their default icon have been suspended from the site. These users, as well as others questioning the policy, have been treated poorly by the site’s volunteer abuse team, something that is not unusual according to other site users. More than 1,000 LiveJournal users complained, and SixApart issued an apology to the group. However, the company refuses to consider modifying their policy and continues to suspend users whose default icons are deemed inappropriate. Although LiveJournal stated a clarified rule, mothers are still reporting major inconsistencies in its application. The breastfeeding debacle is only the most recent in a long line of incidents that have people wondering if the abuse procedures as a whole should be reviewed for fairness and propriety. Complaints have been raised about users' privacy, inconsistent enforcement of the Terms of Service, conflicting information and responses from abuse team members, and discourteous replies to users seeking clarification on the rules. Activists are now working together to get this policy changed and to clarify the policies and procedures of the LiveJournal abuse team. While some are refusing to continue paying for the service, others have moved to different journaling websites to protest what they feel is a violation of their rights. He's here! My water broke last Saturday, the 4th, after having contractions from 5am until 1:45. I was debating whether or not to go to the hospital, because my contractions never got very regular (so much for "setting my watch by them") or as intense as I thought. I wasn't sure if it was the real thing or not. But having my water break decided it for me. At 2 we checked in at the hospital (we live just down the street) and I was already in the last phase before pushing. The doctor came in and said I was about 90% effaced and 7 cm dialated. An hour or so later I was at 8. I "wimped" out and got the epidural - I'm so glad I did. I don't actually feel like a wimp for doing it. The contractions were coming so fast and hard I couldn't get on top of them, so I couldn't hardly breathe, which made me tense up, which made them worse, etc. Right after, the baby's heartbeat dropped and wouldn't come back up. They said they knew it wasn't the epidural, and they tried making me change positions because they were pretty sure the baby was laying on the cord or something. That didn't work, so they rushed me down to an operating room for an emergency c-section. They noticed as we were leaving the delivery room for the OR that his heartbeat was coming back up, so they watched it for a while in the OR. They didn't want to do surgery, but better that than a hurting baby. Anyway, I did deliver vaginally, praise God. I got to see it in a mirror, up until when he actually came, when I realize now I didn't see it because my eyes were closed from trying to push! Gabriel Benjamin was born at 6:52 pm on March 4th. 7 lbs, 6 oz and 19 inches long. Here he is!: He's wonderful! I still can't believe he's mine! |

till the big C-SECTION! I am so excited to see my new little man. I have my last doctor's appointment tomorrow at 11:30. I am a little bit afraid that Daniel is not in position yet. He is doing a lot of moving around. Both my husband and I believe he is lying sideways across my midsection. Will a doctor still perform a c-section when the baby is not head down? I wonder................ Anyway, today is my last day at work before maternity leave. We will see how much work I get done. I have already had three people tell me that I shouldn't be here; that I should be at home with my feet up. What is so hard to understand about a "SCHEDULED C-SECTION"? There is nothing that I can prepare for...why waste my days off is there is no baby at home to care for yet? I am taking a paid day off tomorrow. I will use it to wash the baby clothes, secure the Diaper Deck/Genie/whatever, and find a reliable, cheap breast pump. I think we have everything else we need. Let the countdown begin.............Daniel is coming!!! :-D **squeals of joy** Xposted to my personal journal, 1ontheway

I was away from Livejournal for a week, and thiss community has been really busy! Congratulations to everyone who had babies already! Wow! I'm still pregnant. My doc adjusted my due date two days later to the 26th, but we're still thinking of it being the 24th. At last Monday's appointment, I was 1-2cm dilated and 50% effaced. Finally! Every day my husband tells my belly that it's ok to come out now. He's so cute. Spring break starts this week, which means that I'm not teaching anymore. I still have some reasearch to do. I've started nesting like crazy, though, and my reseach advisor has already mentioned how much I've been knitting. It's so hard to concentrate on data analysis when there's baby things to prep! Anyways, just a quick check-in. I'm so impatient. |

| I'm breastfeeding my son Makaio, who is 10 days old. I never breastfed my other two (unfortunately), so I'm brand new to this. My nipples are really weird--they look nothing like the ones in the how-to guides about breastfeeding. They don't actually stick out. Could this be why Makky has trouble getting a decent latch? He tends to take my whole nipple (and areola) into his mouth and then he doesn't suck properly, and it ends up being a bit painful. Is there any way I can get this to be more comfortable? Did anyone breastfeed with weird inverted nipples? Did it work out? I really don't want to give up. | ||||||
