for Merlin and his friends You are so very loveable, Merlin, that you have gathered around you many excellent friends – some of whom have created a community to celebrate their love for you, called merlin_love. What a wonderful thing!
But enthusiasms can run wild, and even the best emotions such as love and exuberance can flow too high and fast for comfort. Any community can benefit from guidance in how to be our best selves when together. Arthur and his knights have their code of chivalry. Your friends kindly asked me for my ideas on civility – so here they are.
If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. This community exists for enjoyment, celebration and fun. (There are other places, both public and private, for the appropriate expression of other thoughts and feelings.)
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The easiest, best and perhaps only way to ensure this community remains happy and civil is to bring your own happiness and civility with you.
Discretion is the better part of valour. It is often truly heroic to exercise discretion and restraint. (This applies to what you post, what you choose to read or look at, and whether or how you comment.)
No matter how you feel, treat others with respect. We are all human beings – even dragonlords and princes! – and we all have our reasons for acting as we do, even when we are in a muddle. We all usually speak and act with good intentions. We are all worthy of respect or at least the benefit of the doubt.
Respect means: Credit: Any material you post to the community – whether words or images – must give credit where it’s due, unless it is commonly available promotional or publicity material. Acknowledgement of the original creator and source is only fair, as is seeking permission for reposting if the creator is a fan. Privacy: We respect the privacy of our beloved cast and crew, and indeed of all our friends. Only share material or information that those most concerned with have deliberately and knowingly made part of the public domain.
We welcome: * Anything Merlin–related that is intended to make your friends smile. Or any request for something Merlin–related that would make you smile. Anything that is in any way squeeful, shiny, sparkly, delicious, delightful or delighted. * The celebrations can include any aspect of our beloved Merlin including characters, cast and crew, and all ships and pairings whether ‘real’ or fictional. * Comment!fic and fic written especially for the community, and fic recs (but not promotion of your own fic posted elsewhere). * Icons, graphics, picspams, macros and vids created especially for the community, and recs of any of these (but not promotion of icon batches and so on posted elsewhere). * Discussion posts celebrating ‘What I love most about…’ or ‘How wonderful are those…?’ Any aspect of the show can be covered, from Merlin’s ears to the anonymous red–caped knights to Gwen’s warm heart to your favourite episode to Bradley’s astonishing hair to Richard’s latest play to Katie’s erudition to Dale’s awesome cinematography to…
It’s only polite to: * Include a subject line, and tag your posts appropriately. * Warn for any content that is adult (over PG13), Not Safe For Work (NSFW), or potentially sensitive, controversial or difficult. * Use the LJ-cut for anything more than one image or a reasonable amount of text. * Post images no wider than 600px, bigger pictures as thumbnails * Warn for any spoilers for the upcoming series 3 and put them behind a LJ-cut.
If in doubt: If you’re not sure about what you should do, or about what anyone else has done, then contact a mod using the Page-A-Mod service. More details of our policies are available if needed, and your mods are always happy to offer guidance. Occasionally the mods may need to be firm, balancing the interests of the community with those of individual members.
Live the dream. But the most important rule of all, my dear friends, is to have fun! I couldn’t be prouder of Merlin or of his loving friends. I hope and trust that you will enjoy your community, enjoy Merlin, and enjoy each other.
Seal of Friendship By joining the community merlin_love you agree to all of Hunith's Rules. Feel welcome, lovely friend and have a wonderful time.
