TL;DR Bio:

Mia is an OC from the Star Wars expanded universe mostly living on Earth. Currently, she does a bit of smuggling/cargo shipping/freelancing in the Milky Way.

Back home, she was a mercenary/freelancer/smuggler/pilot and volunteer military. She has the equivalent skills of a covert ops/intelligence agent on Earth. She's worked for: a regular Earth company doing coding/hacking, the Stargate program, a demon hunting organization, her own PI firm, and now back to smuggling/freelancing in the Milky Way. Once a freelancer, always a freelancer.

She's skilled in weaponry and fighting, always armed in some fashion, and will happily snark away with people -- or flirt with any attractive single men in her vicinity. Once she considers someone a friend, they've got a loyal ally for life.

Personality:
Mia is often sassy, snarky, sarcastic, and extremely stubborn. Ask anyone who knows her and they'll tell you how easily she can piss people off. (She almost likes it that way sometimes. Sometimes.)

She's also loyal to a fault. She forms deep attachments and has trouble with letting things or people go, and dealing with changes in relationships. She's supportive of the people she cares about and will do anything in her power to help them, sacrificing large amounts of time or using her own resources to do so. Due to her background, she's paranoid and takes her personal security very seriously, as well as those she's close to.

Mia's a huge flirt. It's second nature to her, right after being sassy and snarky. Due to a long string of painful, failed relationships, she's sworn off commitment -- but not men.

She's often restless and needs an outlet for her skills, as well as being able to travel. Planet hopping is what she's used to, and if she's not able to manage it, nothing else ever quite feels right. And if she goes too long without any remotely dangerous situations, she finds trouble or it seems to find her.

Training and Abilities:
Education: Mia went to children's and secondary school on Harbisyn. She was suspended and often got in a lot of trouble for disobeying rules and getting in fights. She continued schooling until the Yuuzhan Vong invaded. She then dropped out to help with the war effort and never continued any formal education after the age of 17.

Profession: She'll never stop feeling restless if she can't planet hop, so she's doing some cargo shipping/smuggling/freelancing in the Milky Way. On Terra, she has previously had her own PI firm, worked as an Information Security Systems Analyst/Specialist (which she calls legal hacking), and at an organization called Nexus (which started out as a demon hunting organization). She was also previously with the Stargate program, stationed on Atlantis. In the GFFA she worked in cargo shipping, as a smuggler, slicer, freelancer, mercenary, etc.

Usual Weapons: She always carries a firearm, either a handgun or a blaster, and at least one secondary weapon: either a holdout blaster strapped to her ankle or hidden in her purse, a vibroblade/regular knife, or both. (Her philosophy is that you should carry as many weapons as you can get away with and still be comfortable with, so she may carry others.) On Terra, any weapons are hidden and she's usually carrying the Terran weapons because they would raise less questions than ones from her home. For those, she prefers a Glock 17 or 19C. Since leaving Atlantis, she occasionally also carries a Goa'uld zatgun somewhere on her. Once or twice, she's ventured out with a Wraith hand stunner. She smuggled out a couple of each of those before she left the program.

She's also well-versed in many other types of weapons. She always takes the opportunity to learn how to use and become familiar with others, and even likes to use everyday innocuous items as weapons, because in her experience, sometimes you never know what you'll need to use.

Skills & Special Abilities: Besides weaponry, she is skilled at hand-to-hand, including some gymnastics and a bit of acrobatics as well. She's a medic, a skilled pilot, a hacker, etc. She's worked at testing and breaking into security systems, past firewalls, and testing various technology for weapons and defense. She has other random skills that she's had to learn in the course of her job and serving in the military. She has learned almost any skill she can to do her job back home -- her freelance mercenary/smuggling job is somewhat the equivalent of a covert ops/intelligence agent on earth.

After discovering the Stargate program, Mia found out she carries the Ancient gene needed to activate Ancient technology, Jumpers, etc. on Atlantis, though she never mastered the drone chair.


Before LJ/DW:
Mia Jesbar grew up in the Harbisyn system (Star Wars galaxy) with her parents, Jacinda and Joshua. She was also close to her cousin Brodin. Her parents were in the "cargo shipping" business and also took "odd" jobs on the side.

The Harbisynian government was becoming more corrupt: putting corrupt politicians in power, taking money from the people, being paid by private companies to block supply shipments (even medical ones), and allowing slavery to run rampant. Her father decided to do something about it with their shipping company and her mother helped him. So starting at a young age, she grew up with the norm of breaking the law (corrupt law put in place by dirty self-serving politicians) and joined with them when she could, along with her cousin Brodin.

The Yuuzhan Vong invaded and the galactic war began when Mia was 16. Their homeworld's defense was weak and disorganized due to the corruption in every level of government, so the citizens did their best to help defend their homeworld. Mia put her piloting skills to use and joined up with a squadron to help fight the Vong. It wasn't always enough, and Mia lost friends and acquaintances, including a longtime childhood friend she'd recently become engaged to during the war. Half a year later, her father died too in an effort to stop the Vong from decimating their world.

In the midst of all this, Brodin acquired his own ship and named it Haven. He and Mia used it to help with smuggling supplies to whoever needed them, but they also focused on freeing slaves whenever and however they could. This has made them both wanted fugitives as well as most of the crew onboard. They became freelancers after the war, taking a lot of spacer/mercenary type odd jobs, including a lot of transporting cargo, as well as things like setting up, testing, or breaking/hacking into security systems.


Roleplay Updates (i.e. how the hell did someone from Star Wars end up on Earth?):
In 2005, Mia attended a birthday party for the god Loki, made possible by a wormhole-type portal that sent her to Earth (Terra) and back in time as well. (If she was to take a ship directly to her galaxy from Earth, she would be about 13-15 years in her past.) That portal has somehow stayed open for her, allowing her to travel back and forth when she needs. She suspects it may be tied to the nexus where the lunatic_cafe is.

For several years she bounced back and forth between the GFFA and Terra, and during that time whenever she came to Terra, she stayed/lived with Wes (the_darling_one) and Aidan (aoutlaw321) in New York and made friends with a lot of other people. When Wes and Aidan died, she eventually moved to L.A. to live with April (Aidan's sister) for a time. Mia got a yellow labrador puppy and named her Jaida.

Wes and Aidan eventually came back to life via various methods and Mia returned to New York. By this point, she'd also established an identity on Earth, worked various jobs, and got her own apartment.

Stargate Program:

Mia met John Sheppard (ltcol_flyboy) in the Lunatic Cafe and later stumbled into a situation that made her aware of the Stargate project. She and John began dating shortly thereafter, and she eventually joined the Stargate program and moved to Atlantis in the Pegasus galaxy to work from there and be with John. She was unable to tell any of her friends about where she really worked and lived or what she did. On the other hand, very few people within the Stargate program knew for quite some time she actually wasn't from Earth. She visited New York as often as she could, but being gone so much caused conflict with her friends on Terra.

The Trust eventually decided to infect her with a Goa'uld symbiote. She was captured after a couple of months and the symbiote removed, but it resulted in numerous changes and issues for Mia and conflict in nearly all of her relationships. She was intending to leave Atlantis and Terra permanently, but changed her mind and went back to Atlantis.

Her relationship with John seemed to be getting close to marriage until she discovered him cheating on her in early 2015. The life she'd built with him and because of him disappeared from underneath her feet. She lost her job, her home, her boyfriend/best friend, and everyone on Atlantis she considered friends and family all in one fell swoop and returned to Earth. She had an extremely, extremely difficult time with this and had to literally put her life back together and build her identity back from the ground up.

Post-Stargate Program:

After her break-up, Mia moved to Detroit to be closer to friends. She stumbled into demon hunting with the Keldrans (an advanced alien race with many living on Earth) and the Nexus organization was born. Mia swore off ever being in an exclusive relationship again but has several friends with benefits she jokingly calls her harem. Her closest friend now is Alex (jafs), who eventually became one of said friends with benefits. She later discovered that her memories and John's memories were tampered with and he had never cheated. They reconciled as friends but never got back together. She quit Nexus for a variety of reasons, one of them needing to start over new again. She did odd jobs/test piloting as needed for the Stargate program.

Currently:

Mia has recently adopted a teenage daughter named Ilse (dont_speak) and moved back to New York so Ilse could attend a special school to help her learn how to control her telepathic abilities. Mia's relationship with Alex looks to many people like they're dating, but she refuses to call it that. He did move with her to New York with his daughter Liz.

Mia also rejoined Nexus, quit again, rejoined again, and will work with them part-time from now on as she pursues smuggling and freelancing again so that she can planet hop.
