In light of the recent buggery here in newengland_ue, all future posts will have to go through me before being viewed by the rest of the community. This is not something I'd ever intended to do, but my laissez-faire approach and faith in our ability to be cool to one another has left us vulnerable to the kind of childish buffoonery you'd more expect to find in one of those "OhMyGODthatHaircutIsSOlastMonth" rating communities. This will not fly. I have just a few very specific guidelines. Follow them, and there will be no trouble. Can't hang? Go elsewhere or get your ass banned. End of story.
Memberships will also have to be approved from this point on. So long as it's a legitimate journal, it'll be fine. Again, it's a damn shame. I have a healthy distain for rules and regulations just like y'all, but I think we can all appreciate the need to keep unwanted lurkers at bay.
And, so long as I have you here, I'd also like to take this opportunity to address an issue that's been under my skin for some time now. Most of you are not guilty of this, and I applaud you. You do much for my continuing faith in humanity. There are those, however, who would do well to read and understand the following:
This stealthier-than-thou "I'm a REAL urban explorer and you're not" elitist, antagonistic bullshit has GOT TO GO.
We all had to start someplace, right? Why shouldn't beginners be allowed to post questions without having to fear a barrage of sarcastic comments? So, you like to think you're the only one who does this, eh? You invented it. You sure did. That Urban Exploration thing? Yeah. All your idea. No one had ever entered an abandoned building before you and your buddies broke into that decrepit old factory behind the railroad tracks. Ok, fine. But if that's what you'd like to remain convinced of, why join a bloody COMMUNITY???
This is, of course, ridiculousness of the highest order and your reviled newbies have as much right to these places as you and I. Accept it and move on.
This community was founded as a meeting place for those of us with a passion for forgotten places to exchange stories, ideas, information, photography and the like. I thought that was enough common ground to inspire a certain level of mutual respect. I can scarcely express my disappointment that this, of all groups of people, should prove to be so factional and pretentious. Please. Get over yourselves. If we were doing this to be hip, well.. we'd probably be doing something else instead. We do it because we love it. We can explain it. Given the amount of people who are simply unable to understand why we do what we do, you'd think we'd make a greater effort to get along here.
Try to keep in mind that we're supposed to be on the same team here. We're really in this together, and the very laws of state and nation are against us. If you're just here for the pics, fine. Whatever. But hey- live and let live, huh? Seriously. Just play nice with the other explorers! That's not so much to ask, is it, folks?

Yes, Danvers is being destroyed. An ape like creature, a dinosaur who spits fire, and some weird flying objects are now attacking the historical Danvers State Hospital. There's nothing to stop it now. Goodbye, Danvers.....

Well, I went up there today and it aint pretty. The state got sick of waiting for avalon bay and having to pay not only for the security but wasting the officer's time that have been patroling up there lately. I guess DCAM finally decided that holding onto it jsut wasn't worth it anymore. I think they're only getting rid of what Avalon Bay had proposed to raze. The security was pretty tight and Bonner was the only building I could get near. Each crash from within the kirkbride broke my heart. I could only stand to sit up there and watch the destruction for so long before I made a hasty retreat.
As you can see its just a shell of what it once was. They're moving fast on this one...

Hi All, Yesterday (04/09) myself and two friends went on a trip inside NSH. Quite a few interesting things happened. First of all, they are working on construction in the southern buildings in the main complex, and in the western wing of the center building on the main complex. The "cafeteria" is in midst of reconstruction (there is new wood, insulation and the like on the walls) and if you're not careful, you'll stumble into construction workers. We heard them dragging things around and their voices long before (hopefully) they heard us. The floors took a hard hit this winter, and it's really easy to punch strait through to the basement. Watch where you step! Uh, question - anyone know why a few of the elevator shafts have no elevators? And as we were leaving, we were climbing out the window and heard a slew of voices from outside, heading to the window. Thinking we were as good as caught, who turns the corner? A bunch of other UE'ers, clad in black, carrying a crapload of camera equiptment! I've never run into anyone else in that place ever - it was a pleasant (and releiving) surprise. Phew!
I'll post pictures ASAP.

Hello, I'm soon going to take, or plan on taking a 2-3 week long trip to a yet unchosen, New England state to do some asylum (and maybe a sanitarium if I can find one) exploration. The west coast is not very fertile land for rambling old asylums. I was thinking New York because there are some great rural asylums (key word is rural, I'm not a big city fan) I researched there that have yet to be torn down. They seem pretty isolated and that's usually means less security, well sometimes. Any good suggestions? I want to hit as many as I can in one trip really. My friend has agreed to drive me so transportation is not an issue. If someone has a good sanitarium suggestion, then throw it my way too. You don't have to disclose exact locations if that is some sort of sensitive issue. I assure you that I am not the type to vandalize. I can find out information on my own if needs be. I’ve never actually depended on another person to help me out with this sort of thing to begin with. All I need are names of institutions and States, I can do the rest. I'm basically asking which state is best for asylums and which asylums in that state are cream of the crop?

I just posted this in the info:
Please post all information pertaining to exact locations as FRIENDS ONLY so that only members of this community can view them. I ask this in an effort to keep an exchange of information possible within the group without the worry of the whole wide web eavesdropping. If it's just pictures and you don't care who sees them, post them publicly- I don't care. Remember though, that sometimes information shows up in the comments that you mightn't want all to see. Should this occur, I ask that you simply edit the entry to make it friends only.
Ya dig?
