| Nickel Creek in New Orleans - HELP! |
[20 Mar 2006|09:53pm] |
I was at the Nickel Creek show on March 15 in New Orleans. I am originally from there but had not been back since Katrina. I was on spring break and just happened to see that Nickel Creek was in town so of course I had to go. It was my seventh NC show and it was amazing. They were on and excited and the dance movements Chris did during Toxic were awesome and so insanely funny. One part of the show though really affected me. They did a cover of Randy Newman’s Louisiana 1927: What has happened down here is the wind have changed Clouds roll in from the north and it started to rain Rained real hard and rained for a real long time Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline The river rose all day The river rose all night Some people got lost in the flood Some people got away alright The river have busted through cleared down to Plaquemines Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline It was amazing and so fitting and after just coming home and seeing things for the first time it brought me to tears. The sound of the song has been stuck in my head since and I am dieing to find a tape of the show. If anyone knows of a copy of the show I would love it if you could guide me in that direction. I don’t have much live Nickel Creek, mainly the things people have been generous enough to post on these boards so it can’t really be a trade but I would even be willing to pay. Thank you so much to anyone who has any info.

| thoughts on the new album? |
[10 Aug 2005|10:09pm] |
so what are your thoughts on the new nickel creek album? personally, i think its great. its such a departure from their bluegrass beginnings. i think its a bit more raw than their usual sound, but thats what makes it so good! my favorite song is definitely 'jealous of the moon' im planning on going to san diego this saturday to see them. didnt make it to the amoeba performance and from what i hear the place was packed :/ since san diego is their hometown, i have a feeling that place will fill up quick. btw, did anyone catch them on leno? they did ok, looked a little rushed and tired...and it looked like sara messed up a little on the chorus. they still did better than other performers on late night talk shows though! oh and that little boy was friggin adorable!

Nickelcreek = true original talent. I'm am so in love with their music and it's hard to describe how happy it makes me. My husband and I don't have an official "song", we have an official "band". We saw them at Bumbershoot in Seattle in '03 when we were first dating and it just added to the romance of it all. We both get mushy and misty eyed when we hear their music! Anyway "hello" to everyone!

| Great Quote |
[05 May 2004|07:21pm] |
This is a great quote I got from Steve Goodman, and it makes me think of Chris Thile (because he plays the Mandolin).
"The Mandolin is the bottom four strings of the guitar, backwards . . . so a person with dyslexia has no problem learning to play the mandolin."
What do you think?

I just got a brand-spanking new color screen Motorola T720 cell phone... and am looking for a Nickel Creek ringtone...
I've read every thread at www.nickelcreek.info/forum and none helped. No ringtones are up on www.nickelcreek.org/bits and I cannot find anywhere or anyone that has them pre-made. Of course I would go upstairs and get the This Side music book and type the notes in my phone but that is as confusing as heck!!!!
Does anyone know how to help me?

Greetings! Winemonkey and I (plus friends Jeremy and Chris) went to see Nickel Creek for our 3rd glorious time last night! We had to road trip for the last two, and although they were both great performances - this one blew them both out of the water. The crowd was much MUCH more lively and their tone, as always, was outstanding. Fun highlights were: the new song "Doubting Thomas" - wow, bass player clog dancing, medley including Nirvana's Lithium and another including that Two Turn tables Beck song, and the acoustic Lighthouse ending (ties in coolness to the Lighthouse performed with Coldplay's "Yellow" stuck in it).
Does anyone on the Nickel Creek lists know the name of the song Sara's singing about getting attacked, and cutting the guy with a broken bottle - it rocks!
The evening even included dinner out at Riddles Wine Bar, which if you're dieting like we are, you realize how crazy cool that is!
Yours in Nickel Creek afterglow, Artemisia

A real good friend of mine belongs to a band and he's picked up the mandolin and he is surprisingly good at it. Although he cant sing and play it at the same time b/c he has to concentrate somewhat at it

So has anyone, besides me, been inspired by Nickel Creek to play an instrument? I've picked up the fiddle and the mandolin because of our dear Sara and Chris. Have you?

Hi everyone!
Allison, I thought you might be interested in this, as well as the other members of this community...
I just started a new bluegrass community with a focus on the contemporary music style. I would love to invite you all to come join!
I think bluegrass music is some of the most expressive and yet unappreciated music out there, I think it's wonderful that is is finally starting to get some of the recognition and attention that it deserves. I would really like to get this community off to a good start and you can help!
Contemporary Bluegrass Community
Thanks for taking the time to read this, hope to see you over there! :-)

I've been up since 8:30 listening to Nickel Creek CDs of course. and WYCBD is on. and *sigh*... it got me thinkin' of burning a Nickel Creek 'slow' mix CD, live or studio versions.. like all slow, meaningful, beautiful Nickel Creek songs that make you take a breath and just *sigh*. Does anyone reccommend any good songs? I have - When You Come Back Down Sweet Afton Seven Wonders House Carpenter Sabra Girl Brand New Sidewalk Poor Places Flanagan's and Be Thou My Vision in mind right now. What about Green & Gray? Maybe Speak or A Lighthouse's Tale, too? Maybe Big Sam Thompson? Does anyone else know of any good, slow Nickel Creek songs that I have not mentioned?
[sorry, cross posted at nickel_creek]

Does anyone know how to get ahold of some of the newer live recordings? I have more live tracks from the first album then I care to listen to frankly, and I'm really anxious to hear some of the new live tracks as well as some of the covers that have been showing up on their setlists lately. Any help is appreciated. :)
