Roaming Buffalo
映像作家の山下つぼみと北川未来、音楽家の中野徳子、アーティストのサノタコ、そして小学1年生の丹治賛によるグループプロジェクト。異なる背景を持つ5人が一つの「家族」となり、未知の地に新たな「故郷」を創造していく過程を、映像・音楽・身体表現を融合した作品として制作しました。
山下と北川を中心に、葛尾村の野菜や野山で採取した植物などを用いて現像液をつくり、賛と共に撮影したフィルム写真を現像する実験的なプロセスを通して、日々の暮らしや活動を記録した映像作品を制作しました。中野はコントラバスの試奏体験を企画する傍ら、サノとともに即興演奏による作曲を実施。サノはその楽曲から2人がイメージする世界を「楽譜」として表現したドローイングを制作しました。
活動報告会では、それぞれの作品をひとつ屋根の下に展示し、その空間で「家族とは何か」を来場者と共に語り合う座談会も実施。異なる立場や世代、感覚を持つ5人の表現が重なり合うことで、一人では見えなかった風景や物語を浮かび上がらせました。
Roaming Buffalo consists of film directors Momi Yamashita and Miku Kitagawa, musician Noriko Nakano, artist Twako Sano, and 7-year-old Sun Tanji. Coming from different backgrounds, the five formed a temporary “family” and created a work that weaves video, music, and physical performance together to invent a new “hometown” in an unfamiliar place. Yamashita and Kitagawa made their own developing solution using vegetables from Katsurao Village and wild plants foraged from the nearby hills. Together with Yamashita’s son, Sun, they shot and developed 35mm photographs. Through this experimental process, they created a moving image from the sequences of the photographs that documents the “family’s” daily lives and activities. Nakano organized hands-on sessions where visitors could try playing the double bass; Nakano and Sano composed music through improvisation, and Sano made “scores,” which are drawings of the world imagined by the two composers. They exhibited their works together under one roof and presented a discussion in front of the visitors about what “family” means. As the differing positions, generations, and sensibilities of the five overlapped, landscapes and stories that nobody could have seen alone gradually came into view.

山下は「言葉」に問題意識を持って映像制作を行い、短編「かの山」が第78回ヴェネチア国際映画祭にノミネートされるなど、国際的な映画祭で作品を発表している。北川は自身の個人的経験や記憶をテーマに、実験的な映像作品を制作し、国内外で展示を行っている。中野はクラシック音楽を基盤とした叙情的な音楽を創作し、映画や企業イベントの音楽制作を数多く担当。サノタコは自身の故郷の家の喪失体験や、差別や社会課題などをテーマに、パフォーマンスや視覚芸術、物語制作などジャンル横断的な作品を展開している。丹治は山下の息子で、ダンゴ虫と自然が大好きな逗子市在住の小１。
Roaming Buffalo is a group by filmmakers Momi Yamashita and Miku Kitagawa, musician Noriko Nakano, artist Twako Sano, and first-grader Sun Tanji. Five individuals from diverse backgrounds works together as a “family” to create a new “hometown” in an unfamiliar place through a fusion of film, music, and physical expression.
Momi creates films exploring the complexities of language, with her short film “Kanoyama” nominated at the 78th Venice International Film Festival and screened at other international festivals. Miku makes experimental films rooted in personal experiences and memories, exhibiting her work both domestically and internationally. Noriko composes lyrical music based on classical traditions and has provided music for numerous films and corporate events. Sano Twako addresses themes of personal loss, discrimination, and societal issues through interdisciplinary artistic expressions, including performance, visual arts, and storytelling. Sun, Momi’s son, is a nature-loving first-grader living in Zushi City with a particular fondness for pill bugs.
