Japanese Version" and "English Version"

🌐The Tools I Devised to Calm the Unease in the Pit of My Stomach: Paper and Pen | Series: Factoring the Heart

Lately, my days have been very calm. Times like this are rare. Since I don't have any worries, I feel at ease, and I find myself wanting to write about the "slips and falls of daily life." And that also means there is no need to write a "Factoring the Heart" piece.
It's fun to play with words, but since it's a time like this, I thought it might be better to summarize things, so I've decided to turn my thoughts into an article.
Recently, there is a popular article on this site: "The pit of my stomach felt uneasy. The reason for the danger signal that suddenly occurred during class."
In that article, there is a passage that goes: "My ex-boyfriend popped into my head, and the area around the pit of my stomach felt uneasy and nauseous. Since it was clear that the scene swirling in my head was the cause, I decided to get that scene out of my head."
This is a safety mechanism I've been using for a long time, but since it seems others don't really do it, I thought I would write down how to do it.
In my case, while going about my daily life, I would sometimes get the feeling that something suddenly crossed my mind and was bothering me. Doesn't that happen to you all?
For example, when I'm concentrating on something, an afterimage of something suddenly pops into my head for no reason, and the area around the pit of my stomach starts to feel unpleasantly queasy.
I am the type of person who cannot tolerate unpleasant things. So, it doesn't matter what it is—a notebook, a textbook, a newspaper, the back of an advertisement, anything lying around—I try writing down the scene that is currently in my head.
There is no need to write a long explanation.
“I felt sick because I thought (my ex-boyfriend) was making fun of (the fact that I was studying?)
This is fine.
I have never managed to write it perfectly accurately. Usually, I think, "That's not quite right," but if that happens, I just draw an arrow and write a "?" or something similar. That usually satisfies me.
Once the source of the confusion (discomfort) that was in my head is out, I feel refreshed.
That alone makes it worth doing.
And then, when I look at what I've written, I'm usually surprised.
But that's okay. At the very least, my mind feels clear. And since the cause of the unease in the pit of my stomach has been removed from my head, it's a success.
After that, as a bonus, an epiphany might strike.
In my case, the gap that opened up in my mind feels like it's being filled in, and it starts to make sense.
That was the answer to what I had been worrying about.
This time, it was the "source of my impatience." I was feeling impatient every day without knowing why. For some reason, I felt like I had to do things, I had to do things, I was rushing. I wondered what was wrong with me, but the only symptomatic treatment I could manage was to "just rest."
When I wrote out this scene, I realized it was related to memories of my father. My ex-boyfriend was trying to steal the essence of my work, just like my father used to steal my work back in the day. I was panicking and running away because of that. Thinking, "I have to hurry, I have to hurry."
Once I realized that,
“Oh, my father is no longer alive, and my ex-boyfriend is gone too. There is no one left to come and steal the things that are important to me,” and when I could think that, I felt relieved. I felt at peace.
It wasn't directly related. I wonder why the confusion born in this head turns into such an answer, but that's just how it is. If it makes sense, it's a lucky find.
I carry around a notebook where I can write anything. Usually, it's used for taking notes (like creative notes for note, etc.), but since this was a notebook for writing anything, I wrote in it. It was also an emergency situation.
Notebooks can be found at 100-yen shops, and any pen you are currently using is fine.
My family ran a business, so we had plenty of old, unused flyers left over from business use. That paper was given to us children. And I learned to use that paper to write what was in my head onto it.
So, anything is fine. There is no format. You might think it's a hassle to prepare a notebook when you don't know when that episode might occur. However, when you feel like, 'I've been having this situation pop into my head a lot lately,' it might be a good idea to have one such notebook ready.
So that you can write it down immediately when you encounter the moment you can catch the situation. It's impossible to try to remember it later.
There were periods when my head would get filled with confusion, and I would struggle. At those times, I would frequently write things out on paper and look at the contents of my head, thinking, 'I see, so that's what this is.'
If you can see the source of your worries, there might be a way to solve them. That is when it is good to open a book about worries for the first time. It will guide you. Like, 'I think I hate myself.' Specialized books on such topics will gently unravel those things for you.
When that period passes, a calm period arrives, so at those times, don't worry, don't blame yourself, and just live energetically.
This is what I have been doing.
I would be happy if this could be of even a little help to everyone.
