The Part of Yourself You Dislike May Be Proof of Your Strength

“Why am I so extreme?”
“Why do I keep repeating the same painful patterns?”

If you feel overwhelmed by the darker emotions inside you—
what people sometimes call your “shadow”—

today I’d like to offer a slightly different perspective.

Problems Are Not Always Born From Weakness

In my work, I deal with both people’s bodies and their mental states.

Through this work, I often notice something important.

The struggles people carry are not always the result of weakness.

Sometimes they are actually

reactions that were created in order to survive.

Do Any of These Feel Familiar?

For example, you may recognize experiences like these:

  • You cannot tolerate environments where people gather to gossip or criticize others

  • You feel frustrated by the immaturity around you and end up pushing yourself even harder

  • You give your time and energy to people who do not treat you well

  • A quiet feeling of “I’m still not good enough” lives somewhere inside you

If you recognize these feelings,
you may sometimes wonder:

“Is something wrong with me?”

A Powerful Form of Self-Protection

However, I see these reactions differently.

I see them as

a form of defense instinct.

And often,

a very strong one.

“Just Relax” Is Easier Said Than Done

Some people might say,

“Just don’t think so deeply.”
“Try to relax more.”

If that were easy,
life would certainly be simpler.

But the reality is that
these patterns are not so easily switched off.

That is why the struggle continues.

Emotions Are Often Created to Protect Us

In many cases, strong emotions are

responses created to protect ourselves.

Words spoken in the past.
Unfair judgments.
Pressure from the environment.

In such circumstances,
the human mind adapts in order to survive.

What Looks Like a Problem May Be Determination

For example:

Closing your heart.
Holding on tightly to something.
Feeling intense anger.

At first glance, these may look like problems.

But from another perspective, they may represent

a powerful refusal to be defeated.

The Trait You Dislike May Be Your Survival Strength

In other words,

the qualities you dislike about yourself
may once have been

abilities that helped you survive.

The Desire to Erase the Past

People often think,

“I wish I could erase my past.”
“I wish I had never become this person.”

But in reality,
those experiences are exactly what shaped who you are today.

Defense Can Become Power

What is interesting is that strong defense mechanisms,
when redirected,

can become powerful strengths.

For example:

  • Anger can become the energy to break through obstacles

  • Loneliness can become deep insight

  • The habit of giving to others can become the power to rebuild

Emotions and personality traits are not inherently good or bad.

Personality Is Adaptation

Many aspects of personality are simply adaptations to one’s environment.

And adaptation can always be used in a different way
once circumstances change.

Looking at Yourself Differently

If there is a part of yourself you dislike,
it might actually be a skill that once helped you survive.
Seeing it this way can change how you understand yourself.

None of Your Experiences Are Wasted

The emotions you have carried
and the experiences you have lived throughare not meaningless.

They are what created the depth you now have.
So please allow yourself, even just a little,
to acknowledge the person who has made it this far.
Because what exists inside you
may one day become

wisdom that lights the way for someone else.

That’s all from the field.
