Back then, Kiyo was a young apprentice seamstress working at a small tailor shop in Ginza.

"You must have bought those caramels on payday, planning to go to the movies with someone," Misaki suggested. Nudged by her granddaughter’s words, Kiyo finally opened the letter. The moment she read the single line written inside, the bustling streets of Ginza and the rhythmic clatter of the treadle sewing machine rushed back to her mind, as vivid as a vintage 35mm film.
