12:33 am - USS Exeter? WTF?

black_vegan
For those of you that have not checked out the latest issue of the Star Trek: Communicator magazine. Check out this pretty sophisticated trekkie fan film. I kid you not, it kicks borg ass. It took them years to make it.

11:20 pm - Cogenitor and others

trancelife
(x-posted just because)

I wanted to talk about this earlier, but didn't have the chance.

I thought the way they handled Cogenitor was really, really on track to what Star Trek is supposed to be - dealing with moral issues, without the gratuitous sexual innuendos. It was wonderful to see Trip getting to the know the Cogenitor, and absolutely crushing at the end. Overall, it was incredibly moving and so different than what I'm used to in Star Trek - somewhat negative.

Bounty was a bit odd, and of course they had to have T'Pol running around in her underwear practically the whole time. Christ, put some clothes on that woman. They didn't even to that to 7 of 9, for pete's sake.

I was happy with the season 2 finale. Except, of course, for T'Pol having to take her goddamned shirt off. You can't tell me they don't have special tops for that sort of thing, or that she couldn't have just pulled her neckline down a little. I mean, her pajamas are provocative enough already. As a woman who loves Star Trek, I'm deeply offended by the sexist writers' needs to put her in such situations. She's like the ship whore-tease and it really pisses me off. I don't care that they take the men's shirts off. They don't smooth out their faces, or send them around the ship in tiny speedo-like underwear, or tight uniforms that would be equivalent to T'Pol's. This really, really angers me. It's just not right, nor is it necessary. At least when Hoshi's top came off (also gratuitous) all we saw was her neck.

Oh, and give Hoshi more lines. I know she was in Maxim, and that doesn't make her much better than the woman who plays T'Pol, but at least she wears a proper uniform on the show that doesn't show more than it hides. She's also a really cool character, who gets brushed over far too much.

Unfortunately, being part of the minority demographic for the show, the writers/producers would never listen to me. I do appreciate their attempts to put the males on the show in situations where their shirts need to come off, but that's still not equality and they don't have to make T'Pol's status as a sex symbol so obvious.

I do like her new hair cut though, and her new uniform de-emphasizes her chest a bit. Perhaps they're moving to the beauty emphasis to her face, which represents her brain, more than her body (well, a little bit, not counting last season's finale). There's hope yet...

I'm really enjoying the direction Enterprise is taking - it's become a lot more epic, and Archer seems to be finding his legs and standing up for himself and his ship now. That's good to see. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season!

12:51 am - The Xindi

black_vegan
This community is awfully quiet and small. But that's OK. Maybe we should all tell our LJ Trekkie friends to join. Thus in turn they will tell others. Anyway, about the Xindi.

I can't wait till "The Xindi" episode comes out (another month and a half I believe). For those of you that keep up with the official Star Trek site, http://member.startrek.net so far the Xindi are a consortium of various species. All are united to smash humanity. Sounds like a precursor to the Federation. Anyway, what has been getting under my skin is where the hell is the Delphic Expanse? I know we will find out soon enough, but it is fun to speculate. Do any of you think it may be in the Beta Quadrant? Perhaps even near or in Romulan space? Therefore pissing off the Romulans even more, leading to the Earth-Romulan Wars. I cannot wait to see that but that is years away (if Enterprise survives the ratings). But sometimes I think the Delphic Expanse it may be toward the Galactic Core of our galaxy also.

In real life have any astronomers deemed any sectors of our Milky Way by the name Delphic or a similar name?

Anyway these are just some thoughts.

Hello.
I've just joined this community. Very happy to learn that there are actually some other fans of Enterprise out there.
I'm from the UK, so I rely in buying the videos in order to watch it - but I'm also a SpoilerWhore, so I don't mind knowing what happens next!

4:37 pm - The Endeavour crew..

reploid
As I had mentioned in my previous post.. I am writing a Star Trek pilot based on the first Federation Starship, The Endeavour. Now.. I would like to introduce the characters and offer a brief description about them..

Captain J.T. Amasov - As of this posting, he is the youngest Commander in Starfleet. With outstanding performances on previous Starfleet vessels, Amasov earned his command of the Endeavour weeks before she was commissioned. He commanded her through all thirty-three of shakedown cruises. He is younger than a good amount of his senior staff and seems to turn to them for help instead of them turning to him. Much of the crew has difficulty accepting him as their commanding officer because of his boyish attitude and his age. However, he is very resiliant and strong as a whip. He is not one to take, "No" for an answer. He never knows when to give up. He always manages to find his way in or out of any given situation. As his Command develops and as he becomes more familiar with his crew he'll gain great admiration.

First Officer Commander Tony J. Vento - Actually a good firned of Amasov, Tony was brough to Endeavour pending Amasov's request. Unlike many other Starfleet officers, this is his first time as first officer. Many have years of experience u nder their belts beofre becoming the second in command. Tony seems to have more control over his rank than Amasov does. In many ways the crew seems to turn to Vento more than the Captain. Heh as the structure and command abilities to be a captain, however he is a bit shy of the "big chair". He is well respected among the Endeavour and has an extremely hard outer shell to him.

Executive Officer Lieutenant Commander Nicholas Isaac - Endeavour's Third in Command. He also serves as the tactical officer in the ship's command center. Nick comes from Starfleet Academy and has never actually had the chance to really get into space. He is smart as a whip and is an extremely charming young man. Although Nick is a bit uncomfortable with traveling at high speeds.. he has a tendency to hold the edges of his workstation once Endeavour jumps into warp. He has a close friendship with Commander Vento and desires to command a Federation Starship. He is always one of the first to volunteer to go on away missions and even lead away missions if the time calls for it.

Lieutenant Commander Lee Xiang - A good friend of Commander Isaac, Lee is a young, dashing American - born Asian who is the ship's navigator. Always quick in jumping to conclusions, he has a bad habit of worrying too much or panicking when the ship falls under attack. Once a bunkmate with Isaac at Starfleet Academy, Lee used to pilot old Earth cargo ships. He begged to be transfered onto a Starfleet vessel as navigator so he could actually go out there and explore the great unknown of the galaxy. Lee's father was the brainchild of the Endeavour's design ans construction, so he is familiar with every square inch of the ship. At times that gets on the captain's last nerve to know his navigator is more familiar with the ship than he is.

Dr. Susan Kaplan - A very young medic trained by the Vulcans she was among the first class to graduate from the newly established Starfleet Medical School. She was orignally aboard the Endeavour's first assignment as a field medic in training, however due to some of the circumstances, she was pushed up to Chief Medical Officer. She has a huge crush toward Nick Isaac.. but has a lot of trouble trying to hide it. She tends to be very anti-social around the senior staff and especially toward Captain Amasov.

Lieutenant Austin Spencer - An extremely witty, and sarcastic young man, he serves as the Communications Officer on the bridge. He always attempts to show off some sort of superiority complex toward the higher ranking officers. Commander Isaac however, puts him in his place. He graduated the Academy with Lee and Isaac. He is laid back when he wants to be and he doesn't share the devotion many of the other crew has about being space explorers and discovering new worlds. When not on duty, he'll confine himself to his quarters and read, or he will dress very casually; or he will go wander about the ship to fix something.

Sulek - Although her name may sound it, she is not Vulcan. She is a young woman who was born in Puerto Rico. A married Vulcan couple actually adopted her at an early age and raised her on Earth. Growing up she was taught Vulcan ethics and morals. She does appreciate and use logic in the Vulcan sense, but she is human and cannot adopt many of the Vulcan traditions she was accustomed to growing up. She is the Chief of Engineering on the Endeavour.

1:03 pm - Broken Bow.

reploid
Last night I decided after I got back from seeing, The Sum of All Fears( which was so fucking awesome by the way!!), to watch the two-hour premiere of Enterprise. Is it just me, or is this episode like really, really good? I mean it is so different from the other pilots and series that it really stands out as a historic moment], not only in Trek, but in television. I got goosebumps watching Enterprise slowly glide out of drydock and seeing Archer say, "Let's go.." than she streaks off into warp. < cough > GEEK! < cough >

Even though Enterprise has only begun, does anyone believe that if a fifth spin-off is conceived that it will take place in the same century as this one? Look at The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. All in the 24th Century and the stories that each episode told really didn't get all that bad. Well, Voyager's did but that's just because the show got boring. I've been conceiving an idea of a sister ship of Enterprise, called Endeavour. I'm a writer in case anyone didn't know. I haven't had a concrete first episode idea, but the plot is that Endeavour is the first vessel commissioned by the new Earth Federation in the year 2161. Indeed, ten years after Enterprise, but it would actually pick up where Enterprise ends assuming it was a real series to ever be developed by me. I've got a crew, the whole nine yards. Your basic Trek strcuture, just very HUMAN characters.

I await some, if not ANY people to join this community.

1:01 am - Welcome aboard Enterprise.

reploid
Aah. Welcome aboard the NX-01 Community. I realize there are other Enterprise communities out there as well.. though I hope this community can become successful and very enjoyable as some of the others have. Throughout this community though I'll be having planned discussions each week. There will be a different subject we will all focus on discussing accordingly.

As of this week.. I would like to have some feedback on the season finale of Enterprise, Shockwave. It is no doubt it ended on a very enigmatic note and we are all left to wonder what will happen once the second season begins, but I welcome all opinions on this particular episode.

Again welcome to the community of the NX-01.
