Hey guys, how is the school year going in roch?

Probably a lot of you dont know me, I went to Ody when it was still just Odyssey, although that was two years ago, so thats not saying much... But anyway, I'm in college and am wondering how everything is going with the GSA and the Ody environment in general.

I'll be back this xmas to visit so keep a lookout for me if you know me!

Hello ~

My name is Denise and I'm just letting people know of another LGBT, LJ Community in NYS. I think it's really great that so many schools have GSA's now a days. When I was in HS in Liverpool there was nothing for us and that was in 1999. Good Luck! Take Care! Happy Pride!

So I woke up at around 4 this morning, wondering if we had everything set for the Day of Silence.

The bracelets are done, we just have to hand them out to people- but what about the shirts?

Hey Y'all [25 May 2005|06:04pm]

Ok Everybody...

Today was the last meeting of the year. Today about 7 people showed up. As sad as that is we are going to continue the GSA for next year. Hurray!

There were no elections today. We are going to decide everything in the beginning of next year. Some of us will be getting together over the summer to plan activits out. (I will be creating a different web page for the GSA and updating it, b/c not everyone has an LJ).

We are going to change:

Leadership: We are going to make it better, stronger, and make some adjustments to it. Only truly comited people will be "leaders."

Meetings: Meetings will be announced much differntly next year. We still have to bi-pass the you-can-only-make-an-announcment-two-days-ahead rule. We will most likly be schedualling the meetings a head of time as we did this year, but make them less spratic.

Activities: Personly, this is big to me. Will may be doing many more activities, instead of sticking to the same old ones. Like movie nights or something.

Alright, lets hope this year will be MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better than this year!

Alright Guys [09 Mar 2005|03:36pm]

Ok guy something needs to be done.

Our GSA Is Falling Apart.

After today's meeting I talked to Ms Evans one on one and we talked about a lot of differnt things wrong with our GSA. (In fact I almost cried on the bus ride home thinking about how gays in Odyssey may never be heard. And frankly I don't think anyone is listeing)

Leadership: Were is it? I admit I am an officer, and I havn't been totally doing my part. In fact, all the officers are too busy. Nothing is getting done in our group. Last year was absolutly amazing. This year, I am no longer proud to be in the GSA. We need to pick up the pace.

Meetings: As a group today in the meeting today we decided to maybe have more meetings. Weekly lunch meetings, just like good old times. We need more members to come to the meetings and help out. We also need an officers meeting so WE know what's going on. And maybe more officers should come to the meetings. Ms Evan came to a meeting the other week and NO ONE showed up. Not a soul. Talk about a waste of time for everyone.

From now on I will be making more efforts to at least get the GSA heard and get this community up and running. A post once a month isn't cool. And I wil need help, since I'm always confused at what is going on. (Which is bad.)

I mean we are trying to get people to accept gays and divirsity in general, and let me tell you, having a sloppy club isn't going to do it. The GSA and some of the gays at Odyssey do NOT have a good name, we need to change that.

On a lighter note...

The Day of Silence is coming up very quickly. April 13th 2005. We need to figture out what we are going to do for "advertisment" if you will. There are 3 choices:

*T-Shirts
*T-Shirts and braceltes
*Other Combinations? (Pins, candles etc...)

We will also need to have some sort of meeting for all the DOS members (if they are GSA members or not) to get together and so everyone will know about and fully understand the DOS.

Leigh, Matt and Nora: You guys know you have to write a letter to Mrs. Meier and the staff about it. You guys know what to do, so I won't bug you.

Any other members...COME TO THE MEETINGS. Every word should and needs to be heard. We want your input and advice on the DOS (and eveything else).

From the GAGV newsletter:

Our next Day of Silence meeting is next Wednesday, 3/16 at 5:30. Please come to help us pick the final t-shirt and flier designs. DOS is coming up quickly, and the more input we have, the better!</n> <--- This will be held at the GAGV Youth Center on Prince St. (I'm 99.9% sure).

I hope you all actully read this post, and have a nice day!

Hey everyone,

Great Job to everyone who was in the bake sale! I hear it went well (except for my pound cake). I'm not sure of the exact numbers, so ask Matt or Leigh or Lena.

Go to this link for some more events coming up this month from GAGV.

http://youth.gayalliance.org/calendar.htm

There's a holiday party coming up, and today (this is what we talked about at the last meeting) is a bowling party. All the info you need is on that page.

Also, if you want more information I suggest you join the GAGV LJ Community: Rochester Pride. http://www.livejournal.com/community/rochester_pride/

Sorry, forgot to update [06 Dec 2004|03:17pm]

fetal_smash
Sorry, I havn't updated in a long time. I've been really busy and such.

Tommorrow. Meeting. After School. Klein's room. Do it!

Don't forget! Bake Sale on Weds.!! Make sure that what you bake is wrapped into separate pieces, include a list of ingredients, and make it taste good!

There may be a a Gay Youth Dance for the holidays coming up soon. I'll post the dates and times when it comes up. I'm talking to someone from GAGV who knows about it (Tara). I know some of you have asked me about it, and I told her that our school was interested (so, we were kinda repesented at the meeting). But, nothing is set in stone.

If any of you have anything else to say, or some event coming up, please post!

oooh, thats gotta hurt the homophobs, since they were just P'WNED BY A LIVEJOURNAL WANNABE!

This made me giggle:

Man approaches to greet a new neighbor who is just moving into the house next door and asks what he does for a living.
Neighbor 1: I am a professor at the University, I teach deductive reasoning.

Man: Deductive reasoning? What is that?

Neighbor 1: Let me give you an example. I see you have a dog house out back. By that I deduce that you have a dog.

Man: That's right.

Neighbor 1: The fact that you have a dog, leads me to deduce that you have a family.

Man: Right again.

Neighbor 1: Since you have a family I deduce that you have a wife.

Man: Correct.

Neighbor 1: And since you have a wife, I can deduce that you are heterosexual.

Man: Yup.

Neighbor 1: That is deductive reasoning.

Man: Cool.

.....Later that same day...

Man: Hey I was talking to that new neighbor next door.

Neighbor 2: Is he a nice guy?

Man: Yes, and he has an interesting job.

Neighbor 2: Oh, yeah? What does he do?

Man: He is a professor of deductive reasoning at the University.

Neighbor 2: Deductive reasoning? What's that?

Man: Let me give you an example. Do you have a dog house?

Neighbor 2: No.

Man: Faggot.

    An interesting read:

    Stolen.
12 reasons why gay marriage should be illegal:

    1. homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.

    2. heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. infertile couples and old people can't legally get married because the world needs more children.

    3. obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

    4. straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage is allowed, since britney spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.

    5. heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are property, blacks can't marry whites, and divorce is illegal.

    6. gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.

    7. gay marriage is not supported by religion. in a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. that's why we have only one religion in america.

    8. gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

    9. legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. people may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

    10. children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. that's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.

    11. gay marriage will change the foundation of society. heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven't adapted to things like cars or longer lifespans.

    12. civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name, are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. separate schools for african-americans worked just as well as separate marriages for gays and lesbians will.

A friend from orchestra (cello_wojo) was sharing his opinions on a few touchy topics. Here is what he had to say about Gay Marriage.

Here's a purely hypothetical situation: There's Couple A and Couple B. Couple A is Jack and Jill. Couple B is Rosie O' Donnell and her girlfriend. Jack and Jill get married. Couple B is living together in the same apartment complex as Jack and Jill in an equally happy relationship, but they pay higher insurance premiums because they're not married. Both couples are happy. One day, as Jack and Jill are driving down the street, Jill starts berating Jack for not putting his blinker on, even though it was a right turn lane, for God's sake, and an arguement ensues. Jack, who is now not paying as much attention to the road as he should be, runs a red light, and, swerving too late, he hits Rosie as she is crossing a crosswalk, then crashes into a parked car. In critical condition, Rosie and Jack are taken to the hospital, and are placed in a room where only family members can are allowed to visit. Jill (who was lucky and escaped with just some bruises and whiplash) and Rosie's girlfriend are incredibly concerned, and want to visit their significant others. Jill is admitted into her spouses' room, but not Rosie's girlfriend, because she's not officially related to Rosie. Rosie and Jack both die a few days later. Jill inherits the apartment (which had been paid for in Jack's name) and all their life savings. The apartment that Couple B lived in was rented in Rosie's name, and that and everything Rosie owned goes now to her parents, since they are officially her closest relatives. The parents hate the idea of homosexuality, and ignore the pleas of Rosie's girlfriend, who becomes a hobo and lives on the streets. (Please keep in mind that, although real people, I cannot claim to know anything about Rosie, her girlfriend, or her parents. I'm sure all four are incredibly kind and accepting people. This situation was merely a fictional sequence of mildly unlikely events.)
What's the moral of the story? No, I'm not saying that Rosie O'Donnell must die. The moral is that because gays are not allowed to marry, many benefits of marriage are forfeit to them. This is really cruel, especially since all my gay friends are as nice as (if not nicer) my straight friends. In a majority of cases, gay relationships are likely to be more loving than straight ones.

OK so heres the deal. Maaaria You are lying every morening. There is no underscore in the damn name. Another thing, is were really going to have to kick up the gsa this year. We have to push getting the things done we want to get done. I wans to get us specifically involved with the youth retreat that we are hopefully going to plan through the gagv, but i have to talk to toby first. The empty closet now has a youth page, and i would also like to get some ody love in there too. So we will see about articles for that. Day of silence comes up fast, we have gotta get some words out for that. Coming out day. Theres soo much gay stuff (us queers just love to have reasons to party) going on, we gotta be ready!!

    Timmy

    *cries* I miss my gsa...
