I've come to the conclusion that I don't really have the time or the energy to maintain this community properly. I already have a writing community, plus a bunch of real life stuff to worry about...so, I've decided to offer up the maintainership of this comm to anybody here who wants it. If nobody wants it, I'll probably end up deleting it.
Anyone want a Haibane comm? |

In Haibane Renmei, there are numerous symbols, some obvious and some less so. I have no idea how obvious these ideas are, but I'm going to put them forth anyway.
In Haibane...
Snow = symbol of purity
When Rakka falls down the well and finds the bird, she has the black stains on her wings. While she's sitting in the well talking to the bird, it starts snowing, and she lets the snow fall and build up on her. When she moves again, the stains on her wings are gone. The snow falling on Rakka is symbolic of her sin being erased as she was forgiven by the bird.
Cigarettes and lighter = symbols of hope
Reki has, as it was once put on a site I read, the cigarette habits of a delinquent schoolgirl. I think that Reki's constant lighting up of cigarettes is symbolic of her constant search for forgiveness. The cigarettes, like the actions Reki performs in an attempt to achieve forgiveness, only last for a brief while and don't give her any lasting peace. The light that comes from the lighter flame is a symbol of brief flashes of hope. When Reki gives up hope of ever achieving forgiveness, she stops smoking and gives Rakka her lighter. Later, when Rakka goes into Reki's room and the lights don't work, she uses the lighter to guide her way through the dark. When she's talking to Reki, Reki's hopelessness transfers itself to Rakka and she switches the lighter off.
Eeh, that is all I had to say. I just wanted to share these little ideas. This will be cross posted to my personal journal and to my Haibane comm. |

Hope no one minds me asking this, as its not strictly related to Haibane, but i'm still interested to hear what other have to say.
Having watched Lain and Haibane Renmei and enjoyed them, would anyone recommend seeing Niea_7? can anyone give me a idea of whats it about? |

hm, maybe it'd be a good idea to clarify the community's opinion on spoilers for the anime? I'm of the opinion that they should be allowed in all forms, as you should probably have already seen the whole series...
that and I think a few of the interests could be construed as spoilers. |

Joined from the Lain community. Have seen all episodes except for last, which will be viewing in an hour.
