Hello my name is Trevor and I am a naturalist and over the years I have grown to despise christian extreemists so I saw your community interesting. I am currently attending high school and one thing I find that angers and shuts up all the christian converters is 1: ask them if the believe in the bible word for word 2: when they say yes then ask then you belive the devil can take all forms 3: when they say yes to that then say then maybe the bible was written by the devil so humans would kill eachother over it 4: then proceed to laugh at them as much as you like. It may not work on all the adults but, it sure workes on the teenagers at my school. Current Mood: Interested | | Wednesday, June 4th, 2003 | 8:30 am [evil_jay]

christianity gone too far???
I was watching the television late last night and their was this pastor on the infomercial. He was screaming and yelling how the devil has put up a block between me and my mate and how me along with everyone else are procrastinators and that is why we haven't called him yet. He kept spitting out a lot of bullshit (he was yelling like he was scolding the viewing audience, and was covered in sweat) about how he had his 3 in 1 healing water and that he needs to be called right now. It would then go to a video clip of him in a small room filled with other people. An elderly woman would go up to him and tell him her problem was arthritis in the knees. The doctors had told her that she needed surgery, but she refused to get it because she knew the jesus would take care of it for her. So this man is yelling and screaming at her and pours this shit on her head and yells be healed and all this, and she starts dancing around one knee then the other over and over, healed by the power of the jesus through mr. "action jackson." They then would go to this little number to call and would flash "free healing oil" over and over on the screen (although the voice would keep saying to order it, obviously you paid for it and got one free if the operators could convince you to order it, and I'm sure they could). It then went to this other girl with financial problems. She had received some of "action jackson's" "green money" oil. She anointed herself with it like he instructed her. She felt for some strange reason to call the school she dropped out of when she became pregnant. They could not find files on her anywhere that said she attended the school, so she amazingly no longer had to pay her school loans and received a credit for what she did pay(???). She then received a check in the mail (from her work) for $25,000 for no reason at all. More bullshit like this went on, and all I could wonder was if this was legal. On a completely different note, I had a kind of funny dream last night. My girlfriend and a friend were with me in some trailer in the middle of the highway. As we were going outside, this older lady was standing by the door. She was holding this bag that was full of packs of breath mints and those little skittle things that come in plastic containers. She was also holding these small little pieces of paper. She approached my friend and explained to her that the piece of paper contained four verses from the bible. She was to read each one, check it off if she understood it, and when she was finished reading all four, the lady would give her some candy. My friend was acting like she was really going to go through with it just to get the monkey off her back, when I pulled her to the side and said something like "this is bullshit, christian bribery and nonsense. Don't do this just to make an old lady happy". She then looked at me and asked, "Do you mind if I tell it like it is, and be really mean to her?" I just smiled. | | Tuesday, May 13th, 2003 | 2:47 pm [craizedbird]

a friend finds Jesus
Ok this we know, he lives a few houses down from us, next door to Brents best friend. He's (well should say he was) like the biggest sinner ever, like if anyone on the planet was going to hell, it would've been him. He was like addicted to porn and drank like a fish. Just crazy really. Anyways, he came over to Doug's house (Brents best friend and for those of you that don't know, Brent's my fiance`) and he starts asking Doug questions about the bible cause Dougs like half assed catholic cause he's wife's like really religious so he goes to church and stuff for her. Anyways, they start talking and Mike (the neighbor) tells him that he's gotten saved and he's been going to church and stuff. He says he's a changed man. When Brent told me I thought I was gonna have a heart attack. I mean what's up with that? In a way it's good cause he needed some sort of positive thing in his life but it's kinda creepy cause he was like this total asshole and now he's all nice and everything. He says and I quote "that I realize that God's always been in my life, anytime that I've needed anything He's provided" I personally think it's bullshit and Doug mentioned taking bets to see how long it's gonna last. I gave it a month and half or so. We'll see. But I thought some of you might find that interesting considering not that long ago Mike had no belief in any God whatsoever. I wonder what causes a person to suddenly believe? | | Monday, May 12th, 2003 | 1:01 pm [evil_jay]

I'm sorry everyone, I know this is quick, but I am a changed person. I have finally found God. | | Saturday, May 10th, 2003 | 1:38 pm [leftindust]

In response to evil_jay post I decided to write it where everyone could see it cause I think it's important... I think that maybe you could look at this story a different way.... What if the reason that the he got rid of third servant was because he did nothing at all with the money? In my understanding of the bible that is like the biggest thing that "God" talks (besides Jesus and being saved) about. Not doing anything at all, or not making a choice is still making a choice because your choosing not to choose. I don't think the story has to do with gambling because it's not so much about the master but the servants. The servants were left with something of value and they had a decision to make in regards to it. They could choose to just keep it and do nothing with it so that the master would have nothing more than what he gave. Or they could choose to do something with it and give the master something more than what he left them with. I don't even think it's so much about the money, it's about not doing anything with the things that are given to you. Make sense? Like if I give you $10,000 and you do nothing with it then it didn't do anyone any good. But if you take the money and invest it or even give it to charity it did some good and it wasn't a waste of my time to give you the money. Even if you just take it to a bank where it will gain interest, you did do something to have it gain value somehow and it's worth more to you. Kinda like if you have this special gift for seeing the future. If you see it and tell no one of something bad that's about to happen then it still happens and your gift has no value but if you tell and keeps someone from getting hurt, you used it wisely and it has value. | | Thursday, May 8th, 2003 | 9:49 pm [evil_jay]

For those of us who use to go to church...
I was raised Catholic and as some of you may know, they read certain passages from the bible at certain times during mass, which cycles and starts over about every 2 & 1/2 years. I can't quote it exactly, but there was this one story from a reading that I remember hearing a few times. There were three men who worked for a master. He was leaving on a trip, and decided to leave each of them with a sum of money. $10,000 (I don't remember what form of money was used, so I will say "dollars") was left with the first, $5,000 was left with the second, and $1,000 left with the third. The master left for his period of time, and then returned. When he asked about his money, the first man said, "I invested the $10,000 you gave me and made $10,000 more". The second man said, I invested the $5,000 you gave me and made $5,000 more". The third man replied, "I know how uptight you are about your money master, so I buried the $1,000 in the backyard to guarantee that it would still be here on your arrival". The master answered in anger to the third man, "Fool! Are you really so naive that you believe your master cannot change his ways? You (referring to another servant), take the $1,000 from that man and toss him into the street, let his foolishness be his guide into an empty stomach" (or something along those lines). He then said, "Take the $1,000 and give it to the man who made me $10,000. Since he proved his responsibility, I am going to allow him to regularly handle larger sums of money". Now, if the bible is the word of a god the Christian people worship, and the Lord is true to his word, what exactly does this tell you? It has a couple of possible outlooks, but I basically take it as if there is a god, he can change his mind at any time about what he wants from his people with or without warning. The "guidelines" to enter "heaven" could be much harder then the bible and churches lay down, or maybe even changed to downright silly (maybe how many ice-cream cones you eat in a lifetime determines your spiritual ranking?). This gives me the view that afterlife in Christian ideals isn't actually based entirely on your life, but is more of a gamble. When you have money to gamble, you have three outcomes. Outcome one: you can spend your money and win by lucking out. Outcome two: you can waste your money by gambling and getting nothing for it. Outcome three: you can spend your money on something else you are guaranteed to get. Of the first two, outcome two is the more common outcome. Out of all three, outcome three is considered by most to be the wisest outcome and the best choice. Maybe some people think this argument of sorts is stupid and weak logic. I've given this theory some thought, and since only one analogy is put into play and I don't get far off-base, I feel I am not guilty of committing a "slippery slope" fallacy or any other errors in this idea. I feel this is a fair comparison and simple logical observation. The idea is simple in my mind. Even if I change my mind one day and decide that maybe a Christian god does exist much like the bible speaks of, I am better off spending my life in a way I feel more productive (saving my money or spending it on myself while not giving 10% or more to the church; having sex if I FEEL LIKE IT and not using it for procreative purposes in marriage only; hell, even fucking killing someone if I truly decide I have a moral obligation to do so {such as to protect the lives of others from a dangerous individual}) then I am to gamble it away on odds that seem to be too high to ever pay off. If you only had one dollar to your name, would you waste it on a single pull of the lever? Current Mood: tired | | Tuesday, May 6th, 2003 | 3:17 pm [craizedbird]

I had a religious vision today. Well, actually more like a daydream. It was of Christ, and he had a twin. It went into this elaborate plan of a con that would effect the world years and years to come.... I then remembered, "Oh yeah, there was no Jesus". Oh well... | 11:23 am [craizedbird]

ahhh finally a place to say what I feel about the whole "I'm a Christian" thing evil_jayJonald</lj> you asked for it. Let's begin with how I think that Christianity is a form of brain washing people to get them to do what you think they should do considering the fact that what we now call pagan religions were around way way before the Christian religion. See here's the thing, some king got pissed off at the Goddess and decided that she should know longer be worshipped and that's how the Christian religion started. Seriously. Then there's the all this stuff about giving money to your church or whatever. Ok, so I've been to church, a lot and I know the bible. That stuffs in the old testament of the bible and if you speak to any Christian they will tell you that the old testament doesn't really "count" anymore because those are the old laws and now it's all about the new testament. Yet when it comes to money or having premarital sex, the old testament counts. Kinda funny don't you think? Well I'll leave you with this for now and see if I stir anyones mind up a little. I so enjoy doing that. Current Mood: aggravated | | Saturday, May 3rd, 2003 | 12:43 am [evil_jay]

Here are suggestions sent on a tablet by the heavens that should be considered by members AND THOSE WHO COMMENT ON ENTREES(regardless of whether you are a member here). #'s 2 5 6 & 9 are strictly enforced, the others are simply worded harshly for your reading enjoyment (although they very much should be considered...) 1. This community was created with the intention of allowing those of a non-Christian faith or no religious belief to discuss their feelings, problems, and prejudices faced with Christianity in any and every manner they wish. Being a person who feels everyone deserves their right to express him/herself, Christians are more than welcome to join the community and give their views as well. While everyone else should feel free to crotch-kick them for their stupid beliefs("religion on faith is stupid, go back to the trailer, you homophobic redneck"), no one should behave as if they don't belong here ("you don't belong here"). 2. This is an open forum for discussion on a subject that is quite delicate to many people. It is expected that their will be tension and negative commentary given to some or many of the posts. If you cannot tolerate any forms of criticism that your statements/arguments create, you do not belong here. By joining this community or commenting to an entry, you are agreeing to give up all rights to whine and bitch to livejournal abuse due to somebody insulting you (regardless of how far they take it). If you email me complaining that someone commented "too harshly" to your post or cause any other similar problems (assuming it doesn't fall within #9) I will immediately ban you. If you are not a member, I will make you one, and then ban you. 3. Irrational arguements are for children and most christians. Let's be a little more intelligent when posting/commenting ("you are an idiot because *insert good reason here*") instead of just trying to entice somebody ("you are an idiot because I say so"). 4. This is intended to be a community to discuss religion differences and problems, most notably the Christian religion. Do stay on topic. If a religious post sparks another conversation completely off topic, that is more than okay. If you want to post an entry about your aunt Mabel's cookies, use your own personal journal. Also, obey your father and mother. 5. Spamming in any form is not allowed. If the Mormons can go door to door and reach every home in America 5-6 times a year, you can do it too. I'm sure of it. Now fuck off. 6. "Trolling", as it is referred to, or joining this community just to piss off it's members with posts and comments that do not belong here, will not make you famous. It will just make you look like an ass. There is a huge difference in attacking someone's arguement and posting the lyrics to every song on Frank Zappa's "Son of Cheap Thrills" every time a person posts. Keep that in mind. Thy shall not steal. Keep that in mind too, for some reason. 7. While this is a forum for discussing religion, this is not your Sunday school recruit service. I may overlook the occasional preacher's entry, but a regular Jesse Jackson is going to get banned. Discuss what you see fit, but don't preach. 8. I created this community, and I can take it away. If I don't like you, I'll ban you. That simple. Follow my ten commandments, including this one (although it doesn't say anything) and understand that this rule is put here just to give me jesus-like power. Also understand that under no circumstance am I serious or am I going to use it ever. How else can I make fun of the bible with only 9 rules? 9. THIS IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT, SO MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND IT!!! Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the Internet. It is only the Internet. This is only a simple community. While free speech is to be completely encouraged here, anything here should be left here. If you are in an argument or name-calling war or whatever the hell with somebody else in this community, LEAVE IT HERE!!!! It is really hard to judge whether someone is being sarcastic or sadistic when you can hear no emotion or see no body language. Furthermore, DO NOT email or IM them with threats, try to meet them and beat them up, take it out on a total stranger, etc...I would prefer you to not even bring problems from this community into your own journals, but do what you must as far as that is concerned. If it is brought to my attention that anyone breaks this rule (even once) your ass is getting thrown out of the community and I will covet your neighbor's possessions, many many times over. 10. Finally, have fun. I know a some of the topics posted here will be very serious discussions, but keep it in mind to enjoy yourself and relax every now and then. If you can't enjoy your life, what is there to live for? |
