Hi there. My name is raketje. I don't post so much these days. I keep forgetting I have LJ. I've fallen prey to the ease of Twitter. I'm raketje there as well. The 140-char limit has given me blogging ADD. I mean, I can't even fully type "character".. it's pathetic.

Anyhow..I spew whatever is on my mind, sometimes frequently sometimes infrequently. If you want to come along for the ride, you’re more than welcome. But say something so I notice you? Plzthx.

Who am I? I am an American ex-pat living in Manchester with my husband, gizzard, our Golden Retriever Daisy, our cat Pilly, and our gecko Gizmo. I moved to England from Portland, Oregon in 2004. I grew up in Portland, but have also resided in: Eugene, Oregon (go Ducks!); Pullman (go Cougs!) and Spokane, Washington; West Chester (suburb of Philly, known for it's Amish population), Pennsylvania; Rome, Italy and Liverpool, Reading and London England. Too much moving.

Things wot I like:

• Music. I am a musician. I am an opera singer and play guitar, sax and piano (the latter quite poorly!). I run an opera company and travel around singing at various places.
  
• History/Archaeology. I dig crazy people and ancient stuff, and did a couple degrees in Archaeology and Roman/Egyptian History. I also have a rather unhealthy obsession with the Tudors. I'm working on a PhD on the Roman invasion of Britain.
  
• Astrology. I am a Cancer, with Capricorn rising and Taurus moon. I never really gave a toss about it until I met my husband (a Leo, Scorpio rising), but have since been educated in the ways of astrology and have learned quite a lot about myself (and others!) in the process.
  
• Writing. I’m trying to write a novel. It's slow going. I write about a chapter a year...
  
• Languages. I have studied French, Japanese and German. I can still remember a little bit of Japanese, and am OK with reading and writing German, but don't ask me about French. Also, I sing in Italian a lot, and have started (slowly) learning the language properly. Slowly.
  
• Shopping. I can’t pass up a good sale, I love shoes and I collect necklaces I never wear.
  
• Beer and Wine. I like beer and wine. I am an ale girl. I do quite miss my old Northwest Microbreweries, though. I’m also trying to become more knowledgeable about wine.
  
• Travel. Beaches, historical sites, foreign shopping, foreign food and drink – yummy!
  
• Coffee. I’ve tried to give it up several times, but I drink it cos I like it. Hence, I won’t give it up.
  
• TV. We watch way too much TV. You name it, I probably watch it.
