1:57 am - Warith Deen Muhammad's Views?

styphon
For Ramadan I went to a Masjid in Buffalo, NY called "Masjid Al-nur"..The fellow worshippers were all black and seemed quite focused on Warith Deen Muhammad, son of Elijah Muhammad..

So this leads me to a question..What are W.D. Muhammad's beliefs? Watching him speak at the Republican National convention..He still seems to take an anti-white bias..

10:02 pm - Pick Your Teeth! (Backbiting)

evileva

http://www.ymuk.net/articles-02/ ( main webpage )

Pick Your Teeth!

It's one of the greatest sins and yet it's something we do day after day. Sometimes we don't even realise it. You're just chatting away with your friends and you begin to talk about somebody else. Our whole lives are based around 'Home and Away' and 'Neighbours', soaps based on lying, backbiting etc. But look at what the Prophet (S) said about it:

The Prophet (saw) was sitting with his companions one day and one of them was speaking badly about someone who wasn't there. As the man got up to leave the Prophet (S) said to him: "Pick Your Teeth!" "But I haven't eaten anything," the man protested. "No," the Prophet (S) said "YOU HAVE EATEN THE FLESH OF YOUR DEAD BROTHER".

As Allah tells us in the Quran:

"Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? No, you would hate it." (Al-Qur'an 49:12)

But What If It's True?!

The Prophet (S) told us:

"Backbiting is to say something about someone they wouldn't like said about them....If what bad you said about them is true, then you have backbited and if it is false then you have slandered them."(MUSLIM)

If you're still not convinced of how big a sin backbiting really is, then look at the punishment Allah has in store for the backbiters. The Prophet (S) described:

"On the night of mirage I passed by some people who had metal hooks in their hands and were clawing at their faces and their necks with them. I asked Gabriel 'Who were these people?' He said 'These are the people who eat the flesh of human beings and disgrace them' (Abu Dawud).

This is how big a sin backbiting is looked upon and yet we continue to backbite without a second thought. Next time you lie, talk about somebody, remember Allah (swt) and the Prophet (S) and put them in front of you before you speak.

heart_dreamer It upsets me to learn how certain people can behave in a way that is contrary to Islam, yet claim they are doing it in the path of religion. Religion is something that cannot be enforced on anyone, they have to believe for themselves, insha Allah. If someone decides to leave Islam, we should not condemn them for it, that is being plain arrogant, something that Islam discourages. Sometimes things need to be discussed calmly, and one needs to understand why someone is behaving in a certain way, maybe then we can offer some enlightenment and possibly guide them back to the path they have lost sight of. But by throwing around accusations, we are only forcing them further away. It is exactly this sort of behaviour that puts other people off Islam. Islam already has enough negative publicity we do not need to add to that by our own actions, we should not be proving them right.

I accept if someone starts being disrespectful towards Islam, then one should speak out to make the position clear, but in a calm and peaceful manner. If we also start behaving in the same way then what is the difference between them and us. Every individual should be respected for who they are.

May Allah guide us all... Ameen!

THE POEM

I knelt to pray but not for long,
I had too much to do.
I had to hurry and get to work
For bills would soon be due.
So I knelt and said a hurried prayer,
And jumped up off my knees.
My Muslim duty was now done
My soul could rest at ease.
All day long I had no time
To spread a word of cheer.
No time to speak of Allah to friends,
They'd laugh at me I'd fear.
No time, no time, too much to do,
That was my constant cry,
No time to give to souls in need
But at last the time, the time to die.
I went before the Lord,
I came, I stood with downcast eyes.
For in his hands God held a book;
It was the book of life.
God looked into his book and said
Your name I cannot find.
I once was going to write it down...
But never found the time"
Now do you have the time to pass it on?

11:47 pm - Email from CAIR: FLORIDA MUSLIMS DECRY LENIENCY FOR TERRORIST

safa20
FLORIDA MUSLIMS DECRY LENIENCY FOR TERRORIST

(MIAMI, FLORIDA, 4/4/2003) - Florida's office of the Washington-based
Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-FL) today expressed deep
disappointment over the government's failure to charge as a "terrorist" a
man who was actively plotting to bomb 50 Islamic centers and Muslim schools
in that state.

Robert Goldstein, 38, pleaded guilty Thursday to conspiracy to violate
civil rights, attempting to damage religious property and a weapons
possession charge. He faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.

Goldstein was arrested last August when authorities found a large arsenal
in his town house. That arsenal included more than 30 explosive devices,
light-armor rockets, hand grenades, a 5-gallon gasoline bomb, .50-caliber
machine guns, and sniper rifles.

Authorities also found a detailed plan that called for planting bombs and
using automatic weapons to attack a local mosque and cultural center.
Goldstein had a list targeting 50 Muslim institutions in the Tampa area.

According to court documents, Goldstein, who is Jewish, wanted to make a
statement for "his people" following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

SEE: MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO BOMB PLOT
http://www.sptimes.com/2003/04/04/TampaBay/Man_pleads_guilty_to_.shtml

CAIR-FL is calling on the U.S. Attorney's office to explain why Goldstein
was not charged as a terrorist under the USA Patriot Act of 2001, and why
no effort was made to seek testimony from the intended Muslim victims.

"The fact that Goldstein was not charged as a terrorist demonstrates that
the Patriot Act is a tool to be used solely against Muslims and Arabs,"
said CAIR-FL Executive Director Altaf Ali.

"The leniency shown in this case sends the wrong signal to Florida's Muslim
community. It signals that the charges and sentencing for planned acts of
terrorism now depend on the perpetrator's religion and ethnicity," added
CAIR-FL Communications Director Ahmed Bedier.

CAIR-FL is urging the sentencing judge and the probation department to hear
from the Muslim community and issue a tougher sentence than the maximum of
15 years agreed to in the plea bargain.

11:04 pm - Email: Common Mistakes in Prayer

safa20
Aslamaa'Alaykem
May this email reach you in the best of health and imaan
Common Errors in Prayer That MUST Be Avoided

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Sticking the arms to the sides of the body, in rukoo' or sujood, and sticking the belly to the thighs in sujood.
The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "Let not one of you support himself on his forearms (in sujood ) like the dog. Let him rest on his palms and keep his elbows away from his body." (Sahih Muslim)
The Messenger of Allah (SAW) used to keep his arms away from his body during rukoo' and sujood that the whiteness of his armpits could be seen (Sahih Muslim).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Gazing upward during prayer. This may cause loss of concentration. We are commanded to lower our gaze, and look at the point at which the head rests during sujood.
The Prophet (SAW) warned: "Let those who raise their gaze up during prayer stop doing so, or else their sights would not return to them. [i.e. lose their eyesight]." (Muslim)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.Resting only the tip of the head on the floor during sujood.
The Prophet (SAW) said: "I am commanded to prostrate on seven Bones the forehead and the nose, the two hands [palms], the two knees, and the two feet." (Sahih Muslim)
Applying the above command necessitates resting the forehead and the nose on the ground during sujood.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Hasty performance of prayer which does not allow repose and calmness in rukoo' or sujood.
The Messenger of Allah (SAW) saw a man who did not complete his rukoo' [bowing], and made a very short sujood [prostration]; he (SAW) said: "If this man dies while praying in this manner, he would die upholding a religion other than the religion of Muhammad."
Abu Hurairah (RA) said: "My beloved friend, Muhammad (SAW) forbade me to perform postures of prayer copying the picking of a rooster; (signifying fast performance of prayer), moving eyes around like a fox and the sitting like monkeys (i.e. to sit on thighs)." (Imam Ahmad at-Tayalisi)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5.The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "The worst thief is the one who steals from his own prayer."
People asked, 'Messenger of Allah

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6.Counting tasbeeh with the left hand
The Prophet (SAW) used to count tasbeeh on the fingers of his right hand after salah. Abdullah bin Amr (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "(There are) two good deeds, any Muslim who does them shall enter Jannah but few are those who do them: to say, 'subhanAllah' ten times, and 'alHamdulillah' ten times, and 'AllahuAkbar' ten times. And I have seen the Messenger of Allah (SAW) counting them on his hand."
lbn Qudamah (RA) said: "The Messenger of Allah (SAW) used his right hand for tasbeeh." (Abu Dawud)
The above hadeeth indicates clearly that the Prophet (SAW) used only one hand for counting tasbeeh. No Muslim with sound mind would imagine that the Prophet (SAW) used his left hand for counting tasbeeh.
Aa'ishah (RA) said that the Prophet (SAW) used his left hand only for Istinjaa', or cleaning himself after respon.....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Raising hands for dua' soon as prayer is over.
This was not the practice of the Messenger of Allah (SAW). The Sunnah is to start with thikr soon after salah is over. The best forms of du'a are those authentically related to the Prophet, (SAW). For authentic du'as please visit Authentic Supplications of the Prophet (SAW)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. Crossing in front of a praying person.
The Messenger of Allah (SAW) warned: "Were the one who crosses in front of a praying person to know the consequences of doing so, he would have waited for forty better than to cross in front of him." (Sahih Bukhari and Muslim).
The forty in the tradition may be days months or even years. Allah knows best.
And our duty is only to proclaim the clear Message. Qur'an 36:17

My encounters as a Covered Muslim Sister
by Sr. Hajar
I was born and raised in this country. I am proud to be an American for the reason that I feel we are a blessed people even in the poorest communities compared to some of the places I have been blessed to travel to by the Grace of Allah.

However, with our modern lifestyle and civilized society as we call it, I am still amazed at the degree of ignorance that plagues our people. We have all types of technology at our fingertips and yet some of us still live in darkness.

Since 911, I have had experienced a few incidents of discrimination but they have not shaken my faith. Instead, they have made me more determined than ever. It reminds me of what Allah says in the Quran: "You think that a thing is bad for you but in it there is a degree of good Allah knows and you do not know".

While shopping in the Wal-Mart near my mother's home in the community where I was raised, I and my daughter encountered a very evil man. While going down the aisle of the store and talking amongst ourselves, a man while passing us turned to my daughter and said, " I hope you burn in Hell". I must confess that I became angry(may Allah forgive me) and I turned to the man and I replied, "Who do you think you are? How dare you talk to my daughter in that tone? You have a right to feel any way you wish but you do not have the right to talk to my child that way. Do you understand me?"

I believe that I shocked him with my clear, American English accent. However, his arrogance would not lead him to apologize. Instead, he kept talking and I replied "whatever, just do not address my daughter" and turned and retrieved the item that I was shopping for.

My daughter was so upset. I told her you have to overlook stupid people. Unfortunately, we live in the South, and some people still feel they have a right to say and do as they wish.

After getting the item, my daughter and I went to the front to check out, we got in the line. The dumb man was ahead of us by one customer. He just gazed at us with hate in his eyes and we acted like he was not there. When my daughter recognized him, she said 'mom there he is again.' I told her to just ignore him, he can't help his ignorance. He became angry and began to yell at us again. He said, "you sand niggers have no right to be in our great country, we fought for you, etc." I must say that I am a very outspoken person, always have been, and I don't take abuse from anyone. I guess it is because I am black and I grew up during a time when I saw my people oppressed in this country and I just get angry at oppressive people. I know I have to practice more patience in this issue.

I replied "You see that's what I mean. See how ignorant you are. In the first place, I am not a nigger. In the second place, I am not a foreign citizen. I was born and raised right here. You did not serve anything for me for I am also an honorably discharged veteran of seven years. Did you not learn anything from 911 they have only talked about Islam constantly since? There have been countless programs about it. There was even a program at the university. Where have you been? Do you know that most of the Muslims in this country are African-American, so when you see one just don't assume that they are foreign or for that matter that they do not speak and understand English. By the way, who gives you the right to tell me or any person what we should or should not do or be?"

He was so outraged at this point because the people were looking at him and laughing and saying, "Oh man, be quiet." He replied again that the Constitution gives him the right. I replied that he has rights as long as they do not infringe upon the right of others. My beef is not your rights are how you express them for I do not care, however I do have a problem with a grown man saying something to any child be it mine or whom ever. I feel if you have a problem you need to address it to me. He said xxxx I am talking you, you xxxxx by this time the manger came over and ask what was going on and I told her and she requested security and ask the man to leave. Before he could leave however he decided to see how brave I was with a threat of physical. I looked him square in the face and said By Allah I do not want to hurt you but if you think I will stand here and let you attack me or my daughter you are sadly mistaken, I will fight you to the death for my child do you hear me", the manager told him you need to leave we will not put up with this and this lady is not playing Mr. He said we will see. Feeling that the man was going to do something to us I purchased a carving set.

The officer came over and got a report of what happened and a description of the man, whom I was able to give details down to his brith mark on his neck. The Officer assured me that he or Wal-Mart would not tolerate such behavior and gave me an escort to the parking lot. I told the Officer that I appreciated his help and that the man had threaten me and my daughter and that if attacked I would defend myself, the Officer stated stated he understood. He replied that if he tried anything tonite that he would go to jail. He comforted my daughter whom was crying along with others that were in the store and said that they were ashamed of the man's conduct and apologized for his behavior.

I pray to Allah to give me more tolerance on this issue its just so hard to ignore some of the things sometimes. I guess that I am tired of all of this nonsense. I will try to work on sabr on these matters. However I have found that they are quite supprised when you speak english and relate truth along with history to them. It has not spoiled my feeling toward people that have a natural curiosity and those that long to understand, it is my mission to spread the truth.

Again thank you for your support and continue to give us good advice on these issues at this most critical time of trials. May Allah reward you with Paradise. Amen

Sister Hajar

ANTI-MUSLIM INCIDENTS IN CALIFORNIA, MICHIGAN AND ILLINOIS
Women verbally assaulted, father and son refused service, mosque threatened

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 3/20/2003) - A prominent national Islamic civil rights
group announced today that several anti-Muslim incidents have been reported
recently in California, Michigan and Illinois. The Washington-based Council
on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) attributes these incidents to the
pro-war rhetoric leading up to last night's attack on Iraq and called on
President Bush to once again speak to the issue of anti-Muslim bias.

In California, four Muslim women from the northern part of that state
visiting a Venice restaurant on Sunday say they were verbally assaulted by
another patron who made references to raping Muslim women and threatened
them with physical assault.

The women, all wearing Islamic head scarves, say a white male began playing
a guitar and singing after they entered the restaurant. His song allegedly
contained lyrics such as: "Those goddamn Muslim terrorists attack our
country....They wear ugly robes that are so stinky...And they rape their
women all the time...but since their women like it, they don't need to get
it over there, we can give it to them here."

After the Muslim women reported the man's actions to the restaurant
manager, he became even more upset and threatened the women with physical
harm. The man was later arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department. CAIR
and the women's civil rights attorney are calling on local law enforcement
and the FBI to treat the incident as a hate crime and to prosecute the
alleged perpetrator to the full extent of the law.

In Michigan, a Muslim father and son report that they were refused service
at a Meijer store in Fraser, Mich. The store's cashier allegedly refused to
accept credit card payment for gas, saying, "We don't take credit cards…We
closed the machines," and shouted, "You Arabs get out of here…We don't want
to serve you guys…Go back to your country…Dirty Arabs." Another customer
also joined in the abuse. The victims' attorney is considering a lawsuit
against Meijer. (There is a surveillance camera videotape of the incident.)

In Illinois, a Glendale Heights Islamic center received a phoned bomb
threat Tuesday and was burglarized Saturday. The center has called for
increased police protection and is in the process of installing security
cameras and window grills. Local FBI agents are working with the center on
the case.

"There should be zero tolerance for anti-Muslim bigotry in our society. We
urge swift apprehension and vigorous prosecution of anyone who targets
other Americans base on their religion, ethnicity or national origin. At
this time of crisis, our nation should be unified in standing against the
forces of division," said CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad. Awad noted
that his group recently distributed a "Community Safety Kit" to help
protect Muslims in North America. SEE: http://www.cair-net.org/safetykit He
also called on President Bush to once again condemn anti-Muslim hate.

Awad noted that just last week, projectiles were fired at another
Chicago-area mosque and death threats were made against Muslim students at
San Jose State University in California. Other anti-Muslim incidents were
reported to CAIR within the past month. Physical assaults against Muslims
have been reported in Northern California, Southern California, Georgia,
New Jersey, and South Carolina. One incident in Yorba Linda, Calif., left a
Muslim teenager badly beaten by a group that allegedly included white
supremacists.

CAIR is America's largest Islamic civil liberties group. It is
headquartered in Washington, D.C., and has 16 regional offices nationwide
and in Canada. Since its founding in 1994, CAIR has defended the civil and
religious rights of all Americans.

MUSLIM UNIVERSITY STUDENTS THREATENED IN CALIFORNIA
CAIR meets with FBI about threat to shoot Muslims on campus

(SAN JOSE, CA, 3/10/2003) - The Northern California office of the Council
on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NCA) said today it met Friday with the
FBI about threats made against Muslim students at San Jose State University
(SJSU). The threats took the form of expletive-laden graffiti scrawled at
locations around the campus. One threat stated: "Muslims will be shot on
San Jose State University campus on March 10, 2003."

After being informed of the threatening graffiti by the campus Muslim
Students Association, CAIR-NCA Executive Director Helal Omeira called for a
meeting with SJSU police, the local FBI Hate Crimes Unit, the San Jose
Police Department, and the university's Office of the President to address
the security concerns of Muslim students. Participants in that meeting
mapped out a plan to deal with the threats.

"It is encouraging to see that law enforcement authorities are taking these
threats very seriously and are doing all they can to ensure the safety of
San Jose State University students. We appreciate the quick response and
the professional manner in which the Muslim community's concerns were
addressed," said CAIR-NCA President Fouad Khatib.

In a message sent to Muslim students on campus, SJSU President Robert L.
Caret stated in part: "It appears that all the messages were the work of
one individual. The San Jose State University Police Department is working
with other local and federal law enforcement agencies to investigate these
incidents. If you see any similar messages, please call the San Jose State
University Police Department 408-924-2222 immediately."

The threats are just one of a series of anti-Muslim incidents across the
country reported to CAIR in the last few weeks. Physical assaults against
Muslims have been reported in Northern California, Southern California,
Georgia, New Jersey, and South Carolina. One incident in Yorba Linda,
Calif., left a Muslim teenager badly beaten by a group that allegedly
included white supremacists.

CAIR is America's largest Islamic civil liberties group. It is
headquartered in Washington, D.C., and has 15 regional offices nationwide
and in Canada. Since its founding in 1994, CAIR has defended the civil and
religious rights of all Americans.

FL MUSLIMS SAY "DOUBLE STANDARD" APPLIED IN MOSQUE BOMB PLOT

(MIAMI, FLORIDA, 2/26/2003) - The Florida office of the Council on
American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-FL) today expressed concern about what the
civil rights group called a "double standard" in a plea agreement arranged
with a woman who allegedly took part in a plot to blow up Islamic
institutions in that state.

Kristi Goldstein, 28, was suspected of planning, along with her husband, to
blow up Florida Islamic sites in retaliation for the 9/11 attacks and the
Arab-Israeli conflict. Authorities say explosives, bomb-making materials,
bulletproof vests, ammunition, and a list of 50 mosques and Islamic centers
were found in the couple's home in August of last year.

Under the agreement with prosecutors, Goldstein entered a guilty plea today
to a single count of possession of illegal firearms, referring to five
bombs that were to be used in the attacks. She also agreed to cooperate
with authorities in testifying against her husband and others who may have
been part of the terrorist cell.

At today's hearing, Goldstein showed no remorse when entering her plea to
the reduced charges and was released pending sentencing. She is expected to
receive a three-year sentence.

"This was a clear case of terrorism directed at the Muslim community in
Florida. Unfortunately, the case was not treated with the seriousness
required by the nature of the charges or the potential loss of life that
would have resulted had the terrorist plot been carried out," said CAIR-FL
Executive Director Altaf Ali. Ali noted that to date, law enforcement
authorities have refused to release the list of the Islamic institutions in
Florida targeted in the Goldsteins' plot. He added that many in Florida's
Islamic community believe the case would have been handled differently had
the defendants been Muslims.

"We are pleased with the arrest and conviction of Ms. Goldstein, even
though on reduced charges, but we are also concerned that other members of
this terrorist cell may be at large and ready to carry out the original
plot," said CAIR-FL Communications Director Ahmed Bedier.
