What is your favorite foreign film? Do you think there should be an American remake?

Okay, um... I'm not sure why, if I like a particular foreign movie, I would want an American remake. First, the American filmmakers would be shamelessly profiting from the success of the original movie (which is kinda tacky), and in some instances the American filmmakers might not even give the original filmmakers proper credit and reimbursement for the idea (depending on the laws of the country it originally came from).

Second, if I like the movie, I would be satisfied with it in its original form. I certainly wouldn't need a remake to be happy. If a remake were made, I might see it just so I could scorn it and discuss how it butchered the original story (because I doubt it would be any better than the original).

Oh, and to answer the original question: I'm not really sure what my favorite foreign film is, but the first one that came to mind was Amelie. :) It's just such a sweet film, and it NEVER needs to be remade!

What is the best movie of 2010?

That's pretty easy. I'd have to say Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. :D I also liked Tangled -- that's probably a close second. I know I saw a lot of movies this year, but I really can't remember what they all were.

Despite the fact that I have no free time, I saw a few new movies recently (I needed a break).

The first movie was The Men who Stare at Goats. It was an okay movie. I had NO idea it was all about hippies, though. And they keep saying it's a semi-true story, but I'm trying to figure out if anything about that was actually true. >_< Either way, it was a weird movie. I'm still laughing about George Cloony telling Ewan McGregor he isn't a Jedi. Hah.

The second movie I saw, which was much, much better was Zombieland. During the opening credits I had already decided that I was buying this movie when it came out on DVD. It was that good. A cool thing about this movie is that it was filmed near where I live. I had heard this, but had forgotten the fact when I went to see the movie. Early in the movie, though, I saw a bumper sticker on a car in the movie that was for a local radio station. I commented on it to my boyfriend, and then we remembered that the movie had been shot here. We then started noticing roads and places that we recognized. It was pretty cool. That's not the only reason the movie was good, of course. This movie was just really freaking funny. And awesome. You need to see it before it gets out of theaters (which will be very soon, I think).

And now, a video that I found on youtube... about Metallica and cute kitties:

I saw the new Terminator movie last night. It was very, very different from the other Terminator movies. The whole mood of the movie was different. Anyway, it was pretty good. It was your basic modern action movie. Lots of oversized explosions. I don't really have that much to say about it. I will say that, though I know that all of the Terminator movies are in chronological order, this one felt like a prequel. It takes place in what was the future in the previous movies, so some of the characters from the future in the other movies are now younger in the present. I dunno, it's a little confusing.

Anyway, today is the last day of my one summer class, then I'll be doing pretty much nothing, as I don't have any hours to work in the bookstore. I guess I need to be looking for other employment.

Oh, by the way, I saw the preview for the new "Sherlock Holmes" movie that's coming out. Man, that does NOT look like the Sherlock Holmes I know. It looks more like House (and yes, I do know that House is based on Sherlock Holmes). Anyway, I'll have to go see that movie when it comes out, regardless.

I finally saw Repo: The Genetic Opera tonight. I can say that it wasn't quite as dumb as I thought it would be, but it was close.

My thoughts:

Repo = Sweeney Todd + The Lion King + The Music Man with a little bit of Moulin Rouge on the side.

I could totally see the Gravedigger guy singing "We've got trouble, right here in River City! We've got trouble with a capital T that rhymes with P and that stands for Pool!"

And then we have the whole: "I killed your mother!" = "I killed Mufasa!"

Then at the opening of the opera scene they COMPLETELY rip off Moulin Rouge.

The main girl had a bunch of really dumb songs -- very poorly written, too. But some of the other songs were okay.

Shock of the night: I think Paris Hilton was my favorite character. She was just playing herself -- a slutty, drug-addicted heiress -- but she did a decent job at it. She was pretty funny.

Anyway, final verdict = it wasn't terrible.

David Hayter, screenplay writer of Watchmen, wrote a letter asking people to see the movie again. The discussion about the letter in this community is kind of interesting. I liked his letter... it gave me a few laughs, at least. Here's a direct link to the letter: Here.

So. I saw watchmen today. The same thought just kept going through my head:

It's freaking Raoul.

Patrick Wilson played one of the main characters in the movie, and he did a really good job, but I don't think I'll ever see him in anything without thinking the same thing. Freaking Raoul.

Anyway, that was a really good movie, even if it was a bit of a "hippie movie" (hey, that's the stuff I like). There were a lot of moral and philosophical issues raised. I hadn't realized this movie would be so deep.

Oh. And David Hayter wrote the screenplay. Somehow I knew he was involved! I could smell it or something. (David Hayter being the voice of Solid Snake/apparent screenplay writer extraordinaire).

And... I desperately need a job. I just thought I'd throw that out there.

I got this meme from crysania4. I've seen it before... don't remember if I've done it before.

1. Pick 15 of your favorite movies
2. Go to IMDB and find a quote from each movie
3. Post them for everyone to guess
4. Fill in the film title once it's guessed
5. No googling/using IMDB search functions!

------------------------------------------------

1) "That song was by a young mister Kurt Cobain - now that kid's got a future!"

2) "I have introduced myself. You have introduced yourself. This is a very good conversation."

3) "Propriety; noun: conformity to established standards of behavior or manner, suitability, rightness, or justice. See 'etiquette.'"

4) "He's right on top of us. I wonder if he is using the same wind we are using."

5) "I don't mean to toot my own horn, but if Jesus Christ lived in Chicago today, and he had come to me and he had five thousand dollars, let's just say things would have turned out differently."

6) "Let me get this straight. You know her. She knows you. But she wants to eat him. And everybody's okay with this?"

7) "What's his type? Wilting flower? Bright and bubbly? Or smoldering temptress?"

8) "O great and powerful Steve! What do you want?"

9) "I have been witness to a world consumed by hatred and bent on self-destruction, watched as we have taken what was to be a paradise and failed in our responsibilites as its steward. I know now that the course of human race has set for itself cannot be changed. I am the last desperate chance for a doomed planet. Now, leave this place or die!"

10) "I feel like Nancy Drew in the mystery of the mid-life crisis."

11) "Miss Everglot, what are you doing here? You should be at home, prostrate with grief."

12) "Well, it's a matter of life after death. Now that he's dead, I have a life."

13) "I'm not even supposed to be here. I'm just "Crewman Number Six." I'm expendable. I'm the guy in the episode who dies to prove how serious the situation is. I've gotta get outta here."

14) "Frightened? Child, you're talking to a man who's laughed in the face of death, sneered at doom, and chuckled at catastrophe... I was petrified."

15) "What are you, afraid of a little insanity? Since when have we been sane?"

Right, so my stepdad randomly brought home "The Santa Clause 3" the other day and we watched it. I can't say much on it -- I guess it wasn't quite as bad and cheesy as I thought it would be, but it wasn't great, either. Can I say I was neutral?

Of course, I LOVE Martin Short. That's the main reason I was willing to watch the movie. I've had a bit of a crush on him since I was about 10. ;P He did a pretty good job.

I saw two movies recently.

One of them was the BEST movie I've seen in a loooong time... it's definitely among my top 5 favorite movies now.

Across the Universe

( Review and comments under the cut.Collapse )

The other movie I saw was Elizabeth. It wasn't quite as amazing.
