lameness!

Okay, so Wednesday night I didnt have class. Went out. got home like at 11 and stayed up until 2 doing homework. Since I was up so late I decided to sleep in and NOT go to my first class. I woke up at 9:45 and got ready. Right before I headed out, i checked my facebook and I read a message from my professor telling us that we were not going to have class as she is sick with the flu... I still went to school but it was so lame because I didnt have classes!! I could have easily stayed in and slept the day away like I wanted to instead of waking up early and going to school. Didnt meet up with people until noon when they got out of classes. Blah

After that I hung out at ASO. Watched the new GLEE episode which was funny and then went to Raphael's house to play BAND HERO. That was a lot of fun :)

~~~~
Today I went to my Pilates class. We've began working on the routine that we are to present at the Social Dance concert as our final. So far its good! Not THAT difficult but still challenging enough. Was supposed to hang out tonight but one it too cold to venture out in the world and the other is stuck in class. I'm so so so bored!!!
Jay came to pick up some chairs for tomorrow nights party. At least I have that amazing bash to go to! :D
I was a teenage feminist! [Nov. 5th, 2009|11:06 pm]
everyone has a bad day on occasion...but mine today was HORRIBLE! I Woke up pretty optimistically... was actually looking forward t going to class. It started out fine, we were joking, and laughing and then i left the classroom for like 3 minutes while I rushed to the bathroom and came back and the next group was already doing their presentation. Can I just say wow? they're presentation was amazing! but last Tuesday we saw a documentary called I WAS A TEENAGE FEMINIST! and as homework we were asked to write down our personal opinions of what feminism is and /or was and what we got from the film. I left that class feeling weird... some of the things that people said in the documentary was hurtful, of course!
so i thought about what I was going to write.. took my time, and did so... and of course when someone else posts a response, I get a notification.
I started reading peoples responses.. and some were okay, some i agreed with, and even read some that stated that these classmates now thought of themselves as feminists! but of course, there were bad entries in there. some even made me upset when i was reading them. so upset that I just closed the browser and tried to do something productive!
well after the groups presentations, they felt it was important to discuss the video responses and they quoted some people... it was a very intense class. I was shedding tears, my friend actually broke down! she left the classroom...People were visibly upset and angry... but it was needed, in my opinion. To see what these people actually thought.
I basically wanted to fly out of that classroom. I wanted to break down too, but i didn't want to do it in front of people... I honestly felt so...for lack of a better word...betrayed! Usually when things get heated, you leave and then you're over it.. but class ended 12 hours ago, and im still on the verge of tears even after hours of crying...
I'm skipping my first class tomorrow morning...why? Not so I can sleep IN... but because I'm behind in my math homework. Ugh. Its amazing how much I hate this subject. But In all actuality I am doing good so far. This semester is honestly going to fly by. I didn't even feel the first month! and the countdown has already begun. lol. I'm honestly super busy with school related things. Its awesome! I feel "involved" which is weird to be because I have never wanted to be before. Its kind of hard keeping up with friends but we seem to be managing. I still don't know what's going to happen for further semesters due to all the budget cuts. Winter semester for sure is now canceled, but that is fine with me because I'll be in Guatemala for the later part od December and first weeks of January. Spring is open and that starts in Feb but Summer's 1st and 2nd sessions are canceled as well. Third session might still be open..but I will still have to check out SMC as soon as I can. Commuting to ANOTHER college is not something I am looking forward to, but it will have to be done. Also...my eyes have recently been open to some facts..I'm talking about relationships. That's the topic I always end my blogs with, right? lol. I
'm going to have to let this information simmer down for a couple of days, because it honestly shocked me. anyways, goodnight.
Tribute Speech Finished! [Oct. 3rd, 2009|04:03 pm]
I just finished writing my speech for class on Tuesday! I am honestly so proud of this!!!
“Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t do something because you’re a woman, a kid, or in this case both”
This morning, I am going to be paying tribute to my 8th grade history teacher. The quote I recited before was said to me when I was about 13 years old and to this day is my motto.
When I was 13, I was very “punk rock” I didn’t care about anything going on around me. I followed a “live fast, die young” mentality. It wasn’t until I began this particular history class that I began paying attention to what was going on around me. The first day in class she established this thing she called, “15 minutes of freedom” in which we openly discussed current social and political events. She was honestly the first person to ask me what my opinion was and made me feel like it mattered.
In 2002, the war on Iraq was declared and Everyday she openly told us what was going on over sea’s and in our city and even though it was against school protocol, she openly gave us her point of view and opinions on what was going on. One day I had an outburst because I felt livid that no one else wanted to do something about this. After class she pulled me aside and I thought that she was going to reprimand me.
To my surprise she actually gave me a hug! She told me that she saw a little bit of herself in me and that I should embrace that and not push it away.
Weeks later the subject died down in class but by now I was doing my own research online, listening to NPR, and watching foreign news channels. I became educated and single handedly organized an in school student walk out to be held in the auditorium one March morning. The walk out was a huge success, basically through word of mouth.
I remember the principal was livid! He called board members and they came over and in particular I remember LAUSD BOARD MEMBER David Tokofsky, district 5 respectively, and to my principal’s disbelief he shook my hand and congratulated me on my civil disobedience.
I still got a week’s detention, and had to write many letters of apology to people I didn’t even know! Sadly, my teacher got suspended without pay.
At this day and age, I consider myself a feminist, and an activist. I am involved with many causes and fights and am a happy person because I have the courage to do this on a daily basis.
even though she is twice my age, I consider her both a mentor, and a friend. I still keep in contact with her through emails and occasionally we meet up for coffee.
She still works at King Middle school up on fountain, but hopes to work at UC Berkeley sometime in the next 5 years.
Everyone has someone in their lives that has changed them for good. Her name is Cheng Rey Koo, and I can only aspire to be like her 20 years from now.
