Now, I am a very big Hellboy fan and I've been looking forward to this for most of the year. I think that's possibly the biggest reason why I didn't think this was nearly as good as it could have been. The plot at first seemed extremely interesting, but what little room it had for development was completely squashed by Del Toro's need for freaky monsters and costumes. Don't get me wrong, the monsters and the costumes were amazing. Del Toro was definatley at his best here, but if all that hadn't been there then the film would have been extremely boring.
I actually found myself falling asleep a couple of times. I never fall asleep in the cinema. Never! That's just how slow I found it. And although it was quite humorous, I just can't seem to get myself excited about it. However, I have to give it bonus points for the fight scene at the end.
The battle between the good guys and the golden army was amazing and then the fight between Hellboy and Prince Nuada on the cogs was probably the best fight scene I have ever seen. It was great!
But still, I do urge you to go see it. It was enjoyable and it could just be because i was very tired that I felt this way. In fact, I'll probably end up sneaking in to watch it when I'm in work.
First off, if you're not an original X-Files fan, don't bother going to see it. You'll not really enjoy it that much I don't think. It's full of little in jokes and nods to the fans that someone who has never watched the series wouldn't understand, like photographs on the wall, THAT poster, the sunflower seeds. But as a fan, I loved it. It's made me come in and start downloading my favourite episodes. God I love the x-files. I gave it a 7 because the plot could've been so much better. There aren't any aliens or perticularly strange paranormal things happening apart from what you see in the trailer. It was just like an extra long episode. And because of Billy Connelly's character, it was a bit too heavy with the religion and Scully doubting it all... again. But I enjoyed it. Will probably sneak into watch it when I'm working.
But the best thing about it all is Mulder & Scully. And I'm not just talking about the indivdual characters, I'm talking about the mulder/scully relationship. I. Love. Them!!! They're just so frakking cute I want to snuggle them so much! They have just reminded everyone why they are the original and best pairing ever!!! - the shaving foam bit while she's on the phone is my fav I think.
Also, there's a bit with them both at the end. It's not amazing or particularly exciting, but it's very very very sweet and has me with a huge big grin on my face ^_______^
This is really a great film. I really enjoyed it. Everyone in it played their parts brilliantly, and the plot was very interesting (I'll say no more to avoid spoilers) and very dark. The only bad thing about it really, is that it was too long. Two and a half hours with 25 mins before hand of adverts and trailers... needless to say, my ass was numb.
But back to the movie. Heath Ledger... words cannot explain just how amazing he is in this. I understand now why everyone is demanding that he be nominated for an oscar. Although everyone in it is great, he's just off the chart. As soon as he comes on the screen he comepleely hypnotises you and draws you in to the pure evil and psychopathy of The Joker's mind. He played it brilliantly, completely and utterly upstaging Jack Nicolson's performance in the original. I mean, if you think he was evil you should check out Heath Ledger's take on it. Soooo much better. Also, the bit in the hospital, although you know it shouldn't cause he's really quite creepy, you can't help but giggle a bit at him.
If you can bare to sit for 3 hours, then I thoroughly recommend it. And if you can go to an IMAX screen to see it, then do so cause that's what it was made for.
Go see it. You have to. It's unmissable. If you don't fall in love with Wall-E, then there is something wrong with you. He's just adorable, as is E.V.E. and M.O. ... M.O. I just love him. I want my very own M.O. to keep all to myself. Him and all the other rogue bots. They're brilliant! Definately the best disney/pixar movie since the first Toy Story.
Please, even if you have to go on yoru own, go see it. You'll love it. I promise.
It was frakkiing amazing. It had me laughing right from the get go, which in turn made the little girl sitting next to me stare at me like I was on something cos she didn't get the adult humour.... but yes. Awesome indeed. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a good giggle. And Po's dad... he's brilliant. made me really want some noodle soup though.
But yes, go see it. You'll love it.
"He was so awesome his enemies were blinded by his sheer... awesomeness."
On another note, I only saw about a half hour of Wall-E, but it looks amazing too. He's just so cute. I just want to cuddle him and take him home with me.
