On Netflix:

Bridgerton (S4): I loved Sophie, but somehow this show is perfectly calibrated to annoy me in minor yet meaningful ways so I don't find it as relaxing as I'd like. And while its diverse casting is usually delightful, this season served up a dragon lady stepmother—like, literally, right down to the costuming: the points on the shoulders of that last dress—aaaaaaaaaaaand is that okay? Surely that is not okay. The next season better be about Eloise being awesome or I'm going to flip a table. Also bring back Michaela.

Four Seasons (S2): This season is as good as the first. Funny and lightweight, until it's not. Contains lockdown-era covid, elder care, and Will Forte being an angry nice guy, which I think is why I detest him so much as an actor. He just gives off that vibe. Like he's always one second away from completely losing his shit.

Shrill (S1): I can only watch one ep of this a day (or less) because the bummer to joy ratio is too high for me. Seeing Portland on screen is nice, but the combination of body shaming, food policing, low self-esteem, and Annie being a bad friend who makes bad decisions can make this unpleasant to watch. I've seen season one plus the first episode of season two and I'm not sure I want to go on.

Below (S1): What if Jaws, but the small, remote island was cold instead of hot? Canada instead of the US? Coming home week instead of tourist season? What if the scientist were a woman instead of a man? And the hero a fisherman instead of a cop? What if the real evil was capitalism all along? Then you have Below. It's fun. It's got an interesting setting and likeable characters. It doesn't really pull off the big turn in the last episode, but I could see where they were aiming. It's very gory at times, but no jump scares. Some flashing lights.

The Diplomat (S4): More non-stop thrills and shouting for Kate and Hal. Everyone's continuing to crush it, but most especially Allison Janney. This season continued last season's trend of Kate fucking Hal's shit up, just as he spent the first two seasons fucking her shit up, and now I'm really hoping we'll get a chance to see whose shit they can fuck up together if they ever manage to get rowing in the same direction.

Enola Holmes 3: Not quite as charming as the first two movies—Enola spends the first half alone, feeling out of her depth, and being shitty to Tewkesbury—but I do appreciate the attempt to reckon with the crimes of the British Empire. Though Malta wouldn't be free of it until September 21, 1964.

And various documentaries of varying quality, listed here in order of decreasing quality:

Trust Me: The False Prophet: An engaging and compassionate look at the FLDS community in Short Creek from the perspective of an ex-Mormon, but Warren Jeffs is just as fucking gross as the guy claiming to be his successor so the women who escaped one but haven't freed themselves of the other are still being controlled by a monster, though the documentary lets the viewer draw that conclusion on their own, assuming they have enough information to do so. It's a real horror-movie you-missed-some-of-the-eggs moment there at the end. (Much like Below, see above.)

FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened: A bunch of rich influencers get conned by an even richer asshole. No one gets (physically) injured in the melee so we're free to feel smug about it, but the Bahamians who did the physical work of setting up the festival were exploited for their labor and the documentary won't let you forget it.

Michael Jackson: The Verdict: Very uncomfortable subject matter, not very well constructed. The only thing of any journalistic (?) value is the footage of his interview with Martin Bashir. The rest is filled with straight-to-the-camera talk from fans, "family friends," some cops, and two jury members, one of whom just straight up disappears from the narrative about halfway through. I got some details I wish I hadn't, but there's no real attempt to describe Jackson as a person beyond "eccentric" and "lives in an amusement park," and no look at what his family life was like or his experiences as a child star. All I know for sure is that whatever was going on with him and those kids, it was a goddamn tragedy. Which I already knew. But Macaulay Culkin??

And one EXCELLENT documentary, on PBS Passport and maybe Kanopy:

Marcella (2024): Marcella Hazan didn't start out a cook; she was a scientist who got married, learned to cook for her husband, moved to America, and ended up changing the way America approached—and ate—Italian food. Highly recommended. From American Masters, season 39.

And on DVD from the library:

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: I can't say I enjoy this series, so I won't, but here's the stuff I enjoyed from season 3:
  • Spock and La'An dancing together (and being sex friends, I guess; they didn't give me enough to form an opinion on that, but they are my two favorite characters, so I think I like it in theory).
  • Jess Bush perfectly threading the needle in her role as first officer in the fake Star Trek.
  • Una's "—and loud" in response to Vulcan!Pike's "THIS MEETING WILL BE BRIEF."
  • Ortegas getting her own episode, plus an annoying little brother. (Have they actually told us Ortegas is queer, or are we just supposed to assume so based on her haircut, sleeveless shirts, and motorcycle repair? Anyway, I want her to be friends with Reboot!Kirk now. They could get into so much trouble together.)
  • Kirk/Spock mind meld!!
  • Carol Kane
Project Hail Mary (2026): Loved this. Watched it twice. Despite being a book-before-movie sort of person, based on my experience with The Martian, I decided to watch this without having read the book, which was an excellent decision. But as soon as I finished the movie I wanted more, so I opened up Libby to put a hold on it. I'll read it as soon as the *checks watch* 1,365 people ahead of me do. In the meantime: Fanfic! ~Sometime later~ Caved and requested a paper copy from the library, which reached me much sooner. Meanwhile there are only 973 people ahead of me for the ebook.

The Sheep Detectives (2026): As soon as Hugh Jackman righteously stormed into the church for no apparent reason, I shut this off. The talking sheep were just way too cutesy for me (if a sheep has anything to say it's going to be WEIRD and your types of sheep aren't going to map onto human traits, they're gonna be like "will eat anything" and "gets stuck in corners" and "worships the faucet" and "lurks in the bushes" and "wants to be best friends with the dog" not "the smart one" and "the dumb one" and "the glam one") also Hugh Jackman was acting like a lunatic (derogatory).

So I posted my Star Trek fic: Maybe He's Born With It (Maybe It's GlaxosEpsilonYor)!!

Going by file dates I started that one in 2020, so compared to all my other wips, it was relatively new. It took a lot of writing to finish because when I started it was really just a couple of paragraphs and then five handwritten pages. I quickly had a first draft, but it needed a lot of editing to connect the themes and refine Jim's voice. It's at the very start of his career as a captain and he's still a hot bro-y mess, and even though I found myself resisting his self-centeredness, I needed his actions to reflect that selfishness, and I think I hit a good balance of bro and personal growth. He can be taught! Spock, of course, is perfect. No notes.

Next up in my endless list of neglected WIPs: It should be my Pinto fic—which, as I recall, is all but done except for the last lines, fuck you, last lines—but instead, it's the G-rated Stargate Atlantis [community profile] kink_bingo non-sexual knifeplay fic about an extinct Satedan fruit. I gotta be me.

Looks like I last opened this in 2011 and it's basically complete. Let's gooooo.

I had David Young's wonderful translations of Bashō, Moon Woke Me Up Nine Times, close at hand and just happened to open it to a haiku I had previously decided would be ideal for Jim and Spock, and then Bones invited himself along for the ride, took over the story, and here we are:

Front of greeting card: Spock in his blue science uniform and a flower crown. Text in a Star Trek font: It is only logical...Inside of greeting card: ...to wish you a happy mother's day.

A few years back I didn't manage to get out and buy a card for my mom, so I fired up Paint Shop Pro and decided nothing says mother's day like Mr. Spock. A quick visit to Google, and I had sassy Spock in a flower crown by [deviantart.com profile] perriepals, Final Frontier Old Style font by Allen R. Walden, and the satisfaction of a job well done by me.

I don't think my mom appreciated it as much as I did—she likes flowers and butterflies and nice things—but I, occasionally, gotta be me. This morning she asked if I could make her pancakes or waffles for breakfast and so I dropped everything (Tumblr, it was Tumblr) and made that happen.

Happy Mother's Day to everyone out there parenting or co-parenting or partially parenting children, and extra love to those for whom this day is particularly hard.

I just found James T. Kirk winking at me from between the lines of a text written more than three hundred years ago. I was reading about Bashō, a Japanese poet who lived during the Edo Period, when I came across this, from the opening paragraph of his travel journal Oku no hosomichi:
Months and days are eternal travelers, as are the years that come and go. For those who drift through their lives on a boat, or reach old age leading a horse over the earth, every day is a journey, and the journey itself is their home. Many people in the past have died on the road, but for many years, like a fragment of a cloud, I have been lured by the wind into the desire for a life of wandering.
—Bashō (1644-1694)
     translated by Stephen Addiss
Jim must have read that and recognized himself in it because, as we learn in this unfilmed scene from the 2009 Star Trek movie, he makes a reference to it in a message to Spock, a message Spock will carry with him in a locket, long after Jim is gone:
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you...I know I know, it's illogical to celebrate something you had nothing to do with, but I haven't had the chance to congratulate you on your appointment to the ambassadorship so I thought I'd seize the occasion... Bravo, Spock — they tell me your first mission may take you away for awhile, so I'll be the first to wish you luck...and to say...I miss you, old friend.

I suppose I'd always imagined us…outgrowing Starfleet together. Watching life swing us into our Emeritus years...I look around at the new cadets now and can't help thinking...has it really been so long? Wasn't it only yesterday we stepped onto the Enterprise as boys? That I had to prove to the crew I deserved command...and their respect?

I know what you'd say — 'It's their turn now, Jim…' And of course you're right... but it got me thinking: Who's to say we can't go one more round? By the last tally, only twenty five percent of the galaxy's been chartered…I'd call that negligent, criminal even — an invitation. You once said being a starship captain was my first, best destiny...if that's true, then yours is to be by my side. If there's any true logic to the universe...we'll end up on that bridge again someday. Admit it, Spock. For people like us, the journey itself...is home.
Perhaps Jim was setting off on that final journey as he recorded this, just as Bashō, getting older and already in poor health, was beginning a two and a half year journey from which he might not return. Bashō made it back; Jim didn't.

I don't know if Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the writers of that scene, were familiar with Bashō's work, but it seems an almost impossible coincidence that Jim, the captain of a boat, always pushing out into the stars, an eternal traveler, wasn't echoing the words of Bashō, a man similarly lured into a life of wandering.

Snowflake Challenge #12: In your own space, tell us who you would recast in a film, tv series or webseries, or maybe someone voicing a cartoon or videogame. Or who would you cast to play a character in a book, comic or maybe even your own fiction!

So, funny story, a hundred years ago I was rewriting "Dagger of the Mind" from Star Trek: The Original Series for our Reboot crowd, and I wanted an Israeli actress to play Dr. Helen Noel, so I Googled some up and turns out the actress about to star in the new Wonder Woman movie was Israeli and incredibly appealing and I decided she'd be great in my fic across from Chris Pine's Captain Kirk. I saved some photos on my computer for reference because I'd never heard of her before.

Gal Gadot smiling on the red carpet at a movie premiere.

Gal Gadot in a black tank top, her long hair up in a ponytail, flexing the muscles in her arm.

This was in 2014. A year later Chris Pine was cast as Steve Trevor across from Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman. So it seems like Patty Jenkins had the same idea I did.

Summary:

In one moment, James T. Kirk is the acting captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, on his way home to Earth after stopping the Narada. In the next moment, without explanation, James T. Kirk is an Academy cadet on academic probation again, barely a day before Nero will destroy Vulcan.

He dares himself to do better. And with a planet on the line and no proof but his own memories, he knows that "better" means he'll need some help.

Bookmarker's Notes: This is so good. Pike's voice is perfect, teasing and wry and long-suffering, mostly from James T. Kirk. Pike, Kirk, and Spock (with a lot of help from their friends, the Vulcans, and another Spock) save Vulcan (and Earth, and most of Starfleet) through communication, science, cooperation, logic, and really the smallest amount of action/adventure possible considering the circumstances. This is a fic about thinking things through, and LullabyKnell commits. To explain it all, the author takes some inspiration from TOS that's so true to the show it feels like canon and then does an expert job of considering loose ends and possible repercussions from all the universe-altering shenanigans. A fantastic work.

Fandom Snowflake Challenge #5: In your own space, promote a canon/talk about a part of canon that you love.

In Star Trek (2009), Jim Kirk is racing onto the bridge of a ship he's not supposed to be on in order to warn Captain Pike that they're flying into a trap:
KIRK: Captain!
MCCOY: Jim, no!
KIRK: Captain Pike, we have to stop the ship!
PIKE: Kirk, how the hell did you get on board the Enterprise!
MCCOY: Captain, this man's under the influence of a severe reaction of a Melvaran flea vaccine, completely...
KIRK: Bones, Bones...
MCCOY: ...delusional. I take full responsibility.
KIRK: Vulcan is not experiencing a natural disaster. It's being attacked by Romulans.
PIKE: Romulans? Cadet Kirk, I think you've had enough attention for one day. McCoy take him back to medical, we'll have words later.
I think about that last bit a lot: Pike saying, "I think you've had enough attention for one day."

It shows how other people see Kirk, as someone who causes drama for no purpose other than to get attention. Our Jimbo does like his attention, but it's more complicated than that. Here, though he's absolutely going about it the wrong way for the organization he belongs to, he's legitimately trying to help. But even Pike, the man who recruited Jim supposedly because his methods weren't the usual for Starfleet, doesn't take him seriously. Pike knows Jim shouldn't be on the Enterprise, not because Pike knows every last person who got thrown onto his ship at the last minute but because he knows Jim's on academic suspension for cheating on the Kobayashi Maru. But we didn't see Pike speak up in Jim's defense or laud his original thinking, and maybe we can assume he didn't do it off screen either.

Pike knows what Jim's about, as we see in the next movie, and Jim lives up to what Pike saw in him, but here Pike underestimates him, doesn't believe him. Not even Bones backs him up, though it's not clear if he's worried about his reputation or actually thinks he's delusional. Either way, no one's listening to him.

My poor Jimbo. Most of the attention he gets is negative, albeit brought on by his own actions, but he can't get—doesn't know how to get—the kind of positive attention he really wants. He acts out because that's all he knows, and Pike seems to understand this about him. Doesn't get more than mildly put off by Jim being on the ship. Sends him back with Bones instead of to the brig. Later Jim puts that attention seeking behavior to good use when he goads Spock into a Vulcan meltdown. But I think what Jim really wants is to just be quietly appreciated by someone who really sees him. He'll eventually get it, too, with Pike, and Bones, and Uhura, and even Spock...once he's through choking him, of course.

Friends, [personal profile] actiaslunaris made me the Star Trek vid I've been daydreaming about since...let me find the post, at least 18 January 2017: Captain Kirk set to The Cap'm by They Might Be Giants.

[personal profile] actiaslunaris took it in a Star Trek Reboot direction—giving me plenty of Chris Pine's pretty face—and put the song in tension with the story, making it a vid about people underestimating Kirk, and Kirk failing and failing but getting it right when it counts. I am full of happy feelings and joy.

You can watch the vid yourself in a variety of places, so lemme just link to the Dreamwidth entry so you can have your pick: Fanvid: The Cap'm (Star Trek: AOS).

I recently finished Alan Dean Foster's novelization of the 2009 Star Trek movie. It's almost universally terrible, but I wanted to see if it added anything to canon. Here are the results of my experiment.

I got this on audiobook solely so I could listen to Zachary Quinto tell me about Star Trek, but he only got out eight words before I had to pause him to snicker. He is Putting On A Voice for the narration. You can practically hear his smoking jacket. He's in a leather armchair by the fireplace. There's a hunting dog at his feet. He gently tamps down the tobacco in his pipe. He's wearing an ascot. It sounds like he's trying way too hard to record the message on his voice mail, and it's really distracting. He kills it with the Vulcan characters and the science stuff and the computer voices and even a lot of Kirk's swagger, but his Romulans all sound like Batman (Christian Bale version) while his McCoy also sounds like Batman (Lego Batman Will Arnett)—I don't even want to talk about Chekov or Scotty—and his female characters are all embarrassingly breathy except for, thank god, Uhura.

Also the writing is terrible. The word choices are ridiculous, and it goes into a lot of detail without managing to say anything. Like there's lots of talk about sensors and what they're sensing, but we don't learn a damned thing about what Winona does on the Kelvin besides be pregnant.

Contains: Descriptions of childbirth, injuries, torture; body horror; violence.

June Something: What is the largest fandom that you're in?

That would have to be Star Trek, if we're counting size by duration, but also by largeness. The fandom has slowed some—Star Trek Beyond came out in 2016—but Spock recently showed up on Star Trek Discovery (which I can't watch until it comes out on DVD), so we've been getting some TOS fic about that (which I can't read until I watch the DVDs).

There are still lots of wips being posted in TOS and AOS, and there are slow spots, but there's generally new fic every few days. The Star Trek Reverse Big Bang just went live so there's lots of new fic and art right now, and there's always lots of gifs and playlists and fannish stuff on (unfortunately) Tumblr. I'm sure I have Trekkies on my Dreamwidth reading list, but only because they were already there by the time I got around to loving Kirk and Spock. The fandom's most active on Tumblr (unfortunately).

Which! To complain about here, Tumblr seems to have forgotten all my tags so that they're not available in the tag autocomplete drop down menu. Has this happened to anyone else? I have no interest in reblogging things if I don't have access to all of my excellent and extremely funny tags.

I really feel for Spock here; he wants something he doesn't know how to ask for, but Jim and Bones are kind and patient, and keep asking questions until they find one Spock can answer. Day 3: In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.

At the beginning of Star Trek Beyond, shit's going down on the ship, and I think Jim's sent off to press a very important button somewhere, but too much shit's going down and he doesn't get there, so Uhura just stands up and goes to do it herself. Shit continues to go down, and she fights her way to the button and pushes it, but in the process traps herself with Krall, the main bad guy, and as her eyes meet Kirk's through the glass that separates them it's clear she's scared. She's scared, but she did it anyway, to protect the ship and its crew. She did what needed to be done. It's so powerful, and I was so proud of her.

Krall asks: "Your captain… Why did you sacrifice yourself for him?" And Uhura stubbornly says, "He would've done the same."

And while it sounds theoretical, he did do the same. She knows he would. It's her turn.

Day 2: Rec at least three fanworks that you didn't create.

Three Five comics, from three creators, in three five different fandoms!

That used to be three, but I got carried away because reapersun draws so much good stuff I couldn't stop reccing, so:

All the Days, by reapersun | Sherlock BBC | John/Sherlock | NSFW | I think this takes place after The Reichenbach Fall, but before the third season aired, so it's pretty free of canon. Sherlock identifies as demisexual and his libido comes and goes, which means he and John have different ideas about what constitutes a relationship, but that's only a small part of the story. There's a little bit of crime solving, a lot of hot graphic sex and character development, and it's funny, intimate, and sweet. This is posted in seven parts with an eighth as a little coda.

But ALSO: This great Star Trek comic, Chasing Your Starlight, that gives both pairs of Kirk/Spock a happy ending. Two parts. With some non-explicit sex.

And not to mention! This original comic Houseguests about a man and a demon trying to live in the same house, also NSFW.

Those are all hosted on Pillowfort, where reading comics can be a pain because you have to click through to each individual page, but it's worth it for these. Here's a masterpost of reapersun's comics on Pillowfort. Reapersun draws a lot of sexy stuff, and so, as you can imagine, Tumblr put a stop to that immediately, but they still have a blog at [tumblr.com profile] reapersun. You can also find the artist on Patreon and on Twitter at [x.com profile] reapersun_art and on their SUPER NSFW locked account [x.com profile] rednoonsun_art. Go check out their stuff.

RSVP, by sonia liao | DCU | Tim/Kon | Conner knew from the beginning that the hardest part would be convincing his parents not to kill each other before the wedding even started.

The colors in this are amazing, and the art is incredible. It had a SFW version that I was going to link you to, but the artist's Tumblr is gone. So there's dick in this one, visible from that front page where all the thumbnails are. There's also secret Clark/Lex pining.

Now for something safe for work!

Auror Peacock Extraordinaire, by [archiveofourown.org profile] dustmouth | Harry Potter | Harry/Draco | Teen | As part of a new departmental initiative, Harry finds himself with a partner he never asked for...and Draco Malfoy.

Dustmouth's style is lovely, a kind of sketchy pencil look with striking emotional expression and delightful little details. The composition is equally delightful and often makes me consider how I could do the same thing in text. All of dustmouth's Harry Potter fanart is wonderful, and it's all locked to AO3. If you don't have an account on AO3 and would like one, drop me a line. I can hook you up.

Are you in the market for stories where Kirk and Spock meet as children and grow up together, becoming friends, brothers, and lovers over a period of many years? Then you're in luck. Here are some of my favorites in the genre. Arranged by bigness of size. Some may contain sexual activity between minors.

Adventure Is Out There, by Straight_Outta_Hobbiton and notfreyja | AOS | Teen | 12,922 words | Part 1 of Doubt The Stars | Jim is just the average, everyday, Starfleet-brat boy genius. His time is split between the mostly-Vulcan engineering crew and raising hell on the rest of the ship. If anybody (including Jim) knew the details of what occurred during his first trip to Vulcan, they wouldn't be surprised.

I Will Have This, by orphan_account | TOS | G | 15,541 words | Part 1 of T'hy'La | Just as she finished adding a small box of sweets to her items, she felt a tug on the sleeve of her robe. Turning, she had a smile prepared, and a praise on the tip of her tongue for whatever item her son had chosen. That turned into a sharp gasp when she realized that carefully ensconced in her son's arms was not any item for sale in the shop, but a very human baby. "Mother, I will have this."

Gift, by littlebirdtold | AU | Explicit | 30,886 words | Spock gets a small golden-haired, blue-eyed creature as a gift from his father (except he doesn't). The creature speaks in his nurse's Secret Language, appears to be convinced that Spock is an "elf" and calls itself "Jim." Utterly fascinated, Spock decides to keep it.

Foundations, by notboldly | AOS | Mature | 44,819 words | Amanda only wanted what was best for her son, and after Sarek's death, she was certain that Vulcan was not it. However, she had never expected it to be Iowa either, or rather, a poor little boy from Riverside.

Magpie, by waldorph | AOS | Explicit | 57,648 words | Spock met Jim when he was 7 and Jim was 6. It has since been generally agreed that this was a mistake (or: the one where they grow up together and things are simultaneously better and worse for it).

In Time, by yeaka | AOS | Explicit | 58,732 words | Winona Kirk is leaving, and Spock makes the 'perfect' caretaker. (Until Jim grows up, and everything changes.)

Refuge, by ThereBeWhalesHere | TOS | Teen | 70,138 words | In a less powerful, less united Federation, Romulus takes an opportunity to attack Vulcan and Federation planets begin taking in Vulcan refugees. One of these refugees, a young Spock, stays with the Kirk family on their farm in Iowa. Everyone thinks it's temporary, but after a few years Earth becomes as much a home to Spock as Vulcan ever was, and the Kirks—especially Jim—become family.

The Sum of Both of Us, by spicyshimmy | AOS | Mature | 207,623 words | Jim Kirk is nine when a massacre on Tarsus IV leaves him without a family and without a home. Spock is twelve when a strange boy in the desert saves his sehlat. Families aren't born; they're made.

The Promise, by coffee666 | AOS | Explicit | 207,872 words | As children, Jim and Spock promised they would get married when they grew up. Jim thought it was just a silly joke between kids. When they meet again upon the Enterprise, Spock still expects Jim to fulfill that promise.

Summary: What kind of an idiot would try to explain magic to a Vulcan.

I loved this. The mix of magic and technology and Vulcan mind-stuff really works. The style is breezy, but like, secretly dire at the same time? Did someone say James T. Kirk? The prose is delightful, deft and athletic, and I was continually in awe of all the things it was doing. And then there's Jim, of course, charming and reckless, just cruising through life, avoiding all his problems until they flip his brains inside out at which point he still doesn't want to deal with them. Spock, meanwhile, has turned the Spock up to eleven, and is deliciously tense and distant right up until he explodes into a forest fire of feelings.

Very much recommended.

"Mother, I will have this."

Sweet, angsty, and hopeful, with some great parenting (Winona, Amanda) and some not great parenting (Sarek, Sarek, and Sarek). If you saw this floating around before as a single chapter or a wip, it's now eight chapters and complete, and there's a sequel in the works.

I try to limit the number of tags I create on Pinboard—I don't know why: so they're easier to remember? so the autocomplete isn't overwhelmed? pure dang stubbornness? who knows—but in practice it means I'm often repurposing old tags for new fandoms. Like Stargate Atlantis's "off-world" tag works fine for Star Trek even though it doesn't make a lot of sense.

All that's to say: I just tagged a Star Trek fic where Jim's a xenobotanist "herbology" and I regret nothing.

Summary: He slips in love with Spock inconspicuously, during an uneventful afternoon, on an unnamed planet destined to become little more than a Greek letter and a Roman numeral on Starfleet's chart of the Beta Cygni system.

In which:

-Spock gets amnesia.
-Spock is convinced that he and Jim are a thing.
-Jim doesn't exactly disabuse him of the notion.

Fic rec, y'all.

This has a flirty, soft, loving Spock who's really good at sex. It has Uhura being a pal, Bones breaking the land-speed face-palm barrier, and Jim doing all the wrong things for all the wrong reasons–because Jim's kind of a dummy–but you can see where he's coming from because Spock. It has pining, humor, angst, feelings, and lots and lots of really hot sex.

It also has what could be seen as dub-con because of the amnesia, and the lying. See also: Jim being a dummy.
