To the LGBT community, Please be advised that images of genocide and ethnic cleansing of the lesbian and bisexual women's population have been declassified by United States Attorney General, the Honorable Ms. Loretta Lynch. The images declassified feature forensic evidence pertaining to lesbian genocide committed by the Central Intelligence Agency or CIA of The United States. Seattle Spit March 5: Yes? No?
Seattle Spit generally happens on the first Thursday. But is it happening on THIS first Thursday? I can't find a darn thing online that announces a theme or featured reader, which makes me think no, probably not. Anybody know? (Might crosspost a teensy bit. Sorry, really wanna know!) | | Saturday, February 28th, 2009 | 2:29 am [redlynn27]

For everyone
Queers and Allies Unite, Take Back the Night: A Candlelight Vigil against Anti-LGBTQ Violence in Capitol Hill (Feb. 28) ***Safe Schools Coalition proudly endorses this vigil**** A recent upsurge in hate crimes against members of LGBTQ community has called the Queer Ally Coalition into action. We are fighting back against the violence and hatred with a peaceful candlelight vigil. We would like to invite you to light a candle for the people who have fallen victim to hate crimes in our community and throughout the rest of the country. The Queer Ally Coalition will be doing some fund raising at the event, selling candles, rainbow flags, and whistles, which we hope will prevent future attacks from happening to members of our community. See you there! It starts at 8pm at the Pillars on Boren Ave. and Pike St. in Capitol Hill, Seattle, WA. | | Thursday, February 12th, 2009 | 12:31 am [westcoastgrl]

What's to do on a Saturday night?
Yes, one of those questions. *wry smile* I'm up from PDX for the weekend with a friend, and it's been about five years since I've lived in the lovely land of Seattle. Ergo, my knowledge of what's going on is effectively nil, and my google-fu for anything approaching an events calendar, listing, or publication has completely failed me. We're staying near the space needle and would like to remain in the metro area -- big points for low-cost, sliding scale, sex positive, trans/queer friendly events, dance nights, music, or other such options, or links to listings. Thanks much! | | Wednesday, November 19th, 2008 | 4:59 pm [k_dawg69]

The University of Washington Q Center would like to invite you to Transgender Day of Remembrance on Thursday Nov. 20th. Transgender Day of Remembrance was set aside to memorialize those who have been murdered due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. Below are the day's events to honor, respect, mourn, and love those we've lost to transphobia and gender violence. All are welcome to attend and please spread the word. ********************************** "Brown Bag," Q Center (Schmitz 450), 12:30-1:30pm
Come to the Q Center, located on the 4th floor of Schmitz Hall, from 1230 to 130 on Thursday, Nov. 20th to take part in an important discussion around global concerns on violence enacted upon transgender or gender variant peoples. Dr. Amanda Swarr, whose work concentrates on South African gender violence post-apartheid, will be speaking briefly about her work on "stabane" murders and facilitating a broader discussion of transgender work in academia. Graduate students working on transgender issues in their studies will also be in attendance. We hope to hear your voice in this important conversation. Candlelight Vigil, 15th Ave NE and Campus Parkway, 6:30pmThere will be a series of speakers followed by the candlelight vigil and proceeded by an open-mic where anyone can share their thoughts, experiences, and respect. ********************************** TDOR serves several purposes. It raises public awareness of hate crimes against transgender people, an action that current media doesn't perform. TDOR publicly mourns and honors the lives of our brothers and sisters who might otherwise be forgotten. Through the vigil, we express love and respect for our people in the face of indifference and hatred. TDOR reminds non-transgender people that we are their sons, daughters, parents, friends, and lovers. TDOR gives our allies a chance to step forward with us and stand in memory of those who have died by anti-transgender violence. Please come honor, respect, mourn, love, and remember with us. | | Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 | 10:37 pm [rev_hank]

Benefit for Portland Women's Crisis Line Hey, y'all. I'm the stage manager for a benefit for the Portland Women's Crisis Line, and it's gonna be a lot of fun.
( clicky for images and infoCollapse ) I'm spreading the word about the show not only because it's gonna be a lot of fun, but also because now, more than ever, it's important for us to invest in our local non-profit organizations. Within the past year, many local non-profits have seen their funding cut by 70% as contributors tighten their belts or say "well, I've already given". That means that they're operating on thirty percent of their previous budget, which forces cutbacks on crucial programs and services.
The fact is that three out of five women have been or will be the victim of sexual abuse or domestic violence within the course of their life. We all know someone who has been a victim of abuse. The Portland Women's Crisis Line provides aid and alternatives to women that otherwise wouldn't have a place to turn.
We're putting on this event because we want PWCL to continue making a difference. We'd like you to help, too -- come to the show, experience an unforgettable evening, and help Portland Women's Crisis Line to continue helping others.
/soapbox
...and even if you can't come to the event, or aren't interested, if you want to donate nifty items or sponsor a ticket for someone that couldn't otherwise afford to go, or whatever, we'd love your aid. thank you.

Women's Choir?
Hi all, I'm new to Seattle and I would like to get involved with a musical group. I'm looking for a women's choir or mixed ensemble group. Something informal. Right now I'm working and going to school so I don't know how much time I could devote to performances, but I would like to start singing again. If anybody knows of something along these lines I'd appreciate a link to a website or an email address. Thanks. | | Thursday, July 3rd, 2008 | 11:50 am [andre_fischer]
