So, I was thinking of taking a quick jaunt up Rattlesnake Ledge, any takers? I was thinking of leaving around 11am or so-ish as I have to work in the AM.

Campity campity camp!!

Ok. So it has come to my attention that Fes has never been car-camping. At least, never with us.

We must right this wrong.

So... The weekend after he gets back from St. Helens, we're a-gonna go camping. That's the weekend of Friday, Sept 12 through Sunday, Sept 14th.

Obvious canidate is Oonztville.

We could do a dayhike to Scorpion Mountain (TH is kinda near where Costa Rica is), wander up the Deception Creeek trail, push ourselves a bit and hit Suprise Lake, take the Tunnel Creek trail up to Mig and Swimming Deer lakes on the PCT, or possibly jaunt up to Valhalla Lake (I'd like to go in via the PCT from Stephens, which is longer, but with less gain).

Shout out if you wanna join us!

Obviously, I'll be making something in the Dutch Oven.

oops! meant to post this here instead of my journal

Anyone wanna go?

I've been talking about heading out there for a while, and after considering the timing of stuff going on from now until the beginning of September, I'm looking at the end of this week.

Anyone up for going Thursday, Friday or Saturday? A weekday is nice because it won't be as crowded, but if it's not feasible to swing a day off from work, Saturday works too.

Information about the Skyline Trail.

I love love love this place. The view are magnificent, wildlife abounds, and the wildflowers should be showing off. It takes about 2.5 hours to get there and we'll need a pass, which can be purchased at the entrance to the park unless someone already has one.

Who's in?

For those who can't make it this round, I'm looking at going again some time in September.

edited to add:Ok--looks like Saturday is most likely the day. At this point it looks as though my car is full up, pending one other person, unless someone else can drive too.

Mount Freemont Lookout.... Sunday? Anyone?

I know several of you are hitting Banderra this Sunday, but really, I'm not feeling it.

Anyone interested in hitting the Freemont Lookout, near Sunrise in Ranier Nat'l Park?

Trail stats

Trip report and pictures from Thursday.

5.5 miles, 1200 feet of gain, lots and lots of non-stop views.

Ok, so who is in, besides bittergourd?

The plan is to leave Seattle at 9am. I have room for 2 more in my car, assuming I am transporting Fes.

July 4th Camping, Oonztville

After talking with Joe at Ye Olde Clubbe this weekend, it was decided we should go camping this weekend. So, come camping!

The (very rough) plan:

Thursday after work, Ethel and I are going to head up towards Oonztville (Joe and Julian may do so as well, hopefully with a 2nd vehicle, since I doubt we can get 4 people + weekend gear + firewood into Ethel's car), and try to secure it for the weekend. I don't think it will be a problem, but just in case, the next alternate will be The Grotto (directions to both in a future post). After that, it becomes a "lets find somewhere".

Let us know if you plan on coming up Thursday night and if so, make sure we have your number, so we can get ahold of you if we have to got to Alternate 1 or Alternate n. If we do, we'll contact someone coming up on Friday so they can post where we are at.

I'd like to do at least one dayhike over the course of the weekend. I'd also like to maybe go fishing one afternoon. Both of these will be hashed out around the fire.

Food: I'd like to avoid having tons of food left over. I suggest that we have volunteers (1 or 2 per night) to provide a large group dish. I volunteer for one night (Friday?) and can make BBQ, Chili, Stew, or.... suprise you with something. Any other takers?

Beer: I'd highly suggest trying to get canned beer. We've found Old Chubb Pale Ale to be a not-bad camping beer. This will cut down on how many bottles we have to bring back... and in that spirit, this is a you-pack-it-in, you-pack-it-out camp. If you bring bottles, PLEASE be sure that you pack all of them out. The less garbage we bring, the less we have to bring out.

Wood: Same as usualy, 1 bundle per person, per night, please.

So... lemme know if you wanna go!

get this thing started

From my journal, but here we go:

This weekend we are planning to go to Stuart Lake. I am leaning more toward Sunday for this hike, with the intent of leaving Seattle at 6am. (to account for the drive to Leavenworth) Also, if we get to the TH early enough we can beat some of the impending heat on the way up.
