Critical Role: Campaign 4, Episode 20

My attempt at finally catching up on Critical Role continues. We'll see how long I manage it?

As with previous posts about the current campaign of Critical Role, this will be a combination of quotes, random thoughts, and some speculation. And it's obviously full of spoilers (albeit vague ones in places).

I see that it's another sleepless night where Occtis and Vaelus get to interact in the cold open.

Okay, Brennan is being very descriptive of Dame Seremai's corpse. I'm suspicious. Especially since she's a vassal of the Tachonis family and, well, House Tachonis is what they are.

"My dad is a particular kind of asshole."

"Julien only has one reason for being around me."

I love how these four don't even know why they're staying together.

Jeez. Tertia was only a teenager. She was even younger than Occtis.

These castings of Speak with Dead through the Stone of Nightsong are going to be my favorite thing, I think. It's such a fun flavor to the spell.

I love how gentle Occtis is when he tells her that Saharkis is fine. Sometimes the lie is better.

"I'm not scared."

Let's see what chaos Sam is going to introduce for the ad this time.

... ah. That kind of chaos.

"A city dirtier than a politician's search history."

Travis impersonating his wife is amazing.

"Everything goes with my hair." / "And if it doesn't, the hair will change."

Okay, time to move onto the episode proper.

"How often do you get to see a D&D character's apartment? Not enough, that's what I say."

"Our four most employed heroes..."

Ah, yes. That moment when Brennan drops a reminder that the group has a legitimate Misty Step glyph if any of them didn't pick up on that last time.

"So much happened in one episode."

"What is this?" / "Bureaucracy."

Ooh, a flashback!

Bolaire is such an interesting character. He really is is.

I do like how the various groups' stories are intersecting without them necessarily knowing that they're intersecting.

Oof. Various magic users are going missing around the city. That's not a good sign.

"Hard to tell." / "But is it hard to sell?"

Azune and his ability to lie and/or persuade is amazing.

"Come on, dice. Support the roleplay."

"This is jazz. Jazz is chaos."

"We're a museum at war."

"They kill the storytellers first."

"Your lie is the truth."

Ah. His specialty is illusion magic, and the Tachonis had a shit ton of illusions in place to make people think everything was kosher with House Royce and Davinos disappearing. That's got to be why he disappeared. They grabbed him for their own uses.

"It's the paint, not the pot."

"How many mages does it take?"

It looks like Augury is going to be another spell where things go a bit interesting.

"This is going to be a damn good show."

"This is why Intelligence and Wisdom are two different stats."

"You know me. This city knows me. I'm not going anywhere."

Switching over to Cooldown...

"Biblically?"

"This was another table's problem. This wasn't my table."

"We're giving Brennan enough rope to hang us with."

Oh, yeah. This is going to be the complicated table. This is much more my cup of tea.

"They're all using each other."

Azune is either going to end up having an in with all of the houses, or he's going to end up having to flee the city in the middle of the night because his cover gets blown. There's no in-between.

"When you said 'there was a cover-up,' he didn't club you over the head and say 'they're onto us.'"

"We might if we don't ever sleep again. Again."
