Critical Role: Campaign 4, Episode 22
My attempt at finally catching up on Critical Role continues. We'll see how long I manage it?
As with previous posts about the current campaign of Critical Role, this will be a combination of quotes, random thoughts, and some speculation. And it's obviously full of spoilers (albeit vague ones in places).
Oh, the cold open is giving us a glance at the Golden Orchard! Nice.
It's the very end of the Falconer's Rebellion.
Baby Occtis! Tiny little eight-year-old Occtis! And Laura! Laura's here! Oh, are we going to get to see him meeting Thimble?
Aww. Thimble and Twig are adorable.
"We're kids forever, and we get drunk all the time."
"Just shy of crits both ways."
Thjazi is looping, isn't he? That's totally an illusion.
... yep. Called it. This is where he meets Occtis as well.
I still wonder if Thjazi may have been a warlock multiclass. They mentioned in a previous episode that one of the things that led to the Falconer's Rebellion was that there were prohibitions being placed on warlocks, and while this conversation is very tongue-in-cheek I do wonder if there may be an archfey pact going on here.
"We've gotta rob myself."
"'Technically' is how a lot of very clever things work."
Announcement time. Let's see what chaos Sam has come up with.
Oh, gods. Sam. Why. Just... why.
Onto the episode proper.
"There was context!"
"Could be worse." / "7." / "Could be that."
Welp. That doesn't seem like a good thing.
"You don't want a 5 or a 6." Yeah, that's one of those things that you really don't want to hear Brennan say.
"I should get the weird ones out."
"I'm dead? No. Oh, I'm almost dead!"
"This kid only knows how to do things loud."
"On a Nat1, I have to fuck you guys."
Huh, interesting. Is Azune a draconic bloodline sorcerer, maybe?
"Azune, you're in the one situation that in the Brethren Hall they tell you never to get in. Which is surrounded by rogues."
"These guys don't know they're in a game of D&D, but on an intuitive level they know what it means to miss on a 19."
I love this poor wizard grad student who can't stay quiet or remain remotely under the radar to save his life.
"I'm helping!" / "Stop helping!"
"Now that none of your friends can see you, you decide to prove that this guy's not the freakiest thing in this dark pit."
Okay, I'll give the kid this one.
"Can I choke him out?"
"Can you kill the guidance counselor?"
"... and that is a quality. That's a quality."
"Look, I'm kind of a fool, but I'm not an idiot."
"Rich people laugh when they haven't said anything funny."
"No one is born with wisdom. You learn it the hard way."
"... the father that I never got to have..."
"Student loan forgiveness."
Aww. A Padmund reference! I really need to rewatch the Wildemount Wildlings miniseries. It's been too long.
"I haven't taken a man's life in almost thirty years." / "I cannot relate."
"How did Thjazi know?"
"I will kill somebody for you."
"Let's go see what fucked up shit Bolaire is about to do."
"My life is in your hands."
"The mind of a man who's been in jail, but never one like this."
"He might not feel it, but he's a very good actor."
"My kingdom for a long rest."
Time for Cooldown.
"We are scary as a group."
"I don't think calisthenics helps with the eyesight."
"We have one fighter and three what-the-fucks."
"I'm so glad you killed somebody."
"I went to work. What are you talking about?"
"Welcome to Critical Role: Resource Management."
"Why is the king in town? What's the fuck up with that?"
"I feel like a parent looking at a Santa Claus list and counting the amount of episodes we have."
