With 592 inhabitants on 1 January 2023, Polaincourt-et-Clairefontaine is a medium-sized commune in the Haute-Saône department. Its population decreased significantly during the first half of the 20th century, with 917 inhabitants recorded in 1911. From 1940 to 1980, the population grew steadily and more than doubled. Since 1990, the population has decreased by about 35%.
