We are planning to do some database maintenance today, and LiveJournal could be down for a half of an hour during this period. The maintenance is scheduled to begin at 16:00 PDT (click to see other timezones) and is expected to last approximately two hours.

You can keep an eye on the LiveJournal Status Page to see when we're back. We will also provide there any additional updates if we go beyond our planned maintenance window.

So I was >just< short on January and I feel pretty good about it. I'm still coughing like mad with exercise, and I'm in bed at an insanely early time. Yesterday I played frisbee with the dog for 45 minutes and today was about 35 before the cold drove me in.    But every day is better than the last in some way so I"m counting it as a win.
Walking: 31.53 Miles
Biking:40 Miles

Thank you to the Mods for another wonderful challenge.   See you in February.

I'm shooting for another 75 in February. If you're on myfitnesspal.com you can find me @djmicheals and I will be happy to friend you.

My miles for last week aren't the best but, I am moving. YAY for getting in roughly a mile a day last week walking in short bursts. I'm trying the elliptical tonight at the Y and possibly trying for getting back on the bike.

Walking: 25.28 Miles
Biking: 26.0 Miles (a big fat goose egg for last week)

I have only one mile to report for last week.  This allergy/asthma issue I had turned into a confirmed case of honest to God  Influenza, one of many in our county. And the cure is actually worse than the illness as I am also one of the many that doesn't tolerate Tamiflu well.  /joy/  Of all the luck...

I want to wish everyone a healthy and prosperous New Year. Let's hope 2014 is better than the last.

Hubs and I have spent the evening watching the Twilight Zone marathon on SyFy. The one episode that really struck me this evening has Burgis Meredith as a Librarian, libraries outlawed, Bible, literature, poetry have been declared a waste of the State's time & money. Librarian is to be 'liquidated', terminated, at his choice of method within a set period of time. He traps an Official into facing death with him while he reads his Bible, and in the end, the Chancellor begs in the name of God to be freed. The Librarian releases him in the name of God just before a bomb went off, only for the Chancellor to be declared obsolete for conduct unbecoming an officer of the State.

It just reminded me why I love TZ. Every episode dealt with the foibles of man and how it is in our general human nature to screw shit up.

And also, Twilight Zone was creepy as fuck.

And a post to show where I ended up for December:

Walking: 41.45 Miles
Biking: 82.92 Miles
Total: 120.43

Since my goal was 150 miles, I was short 25.63 miles. That makes two months in a row that I haven't made my self-imposed goal.

My wonderful little asthma attack caused by an allergic reaction to coconut and chocolate really took a toll on me. I'm sure I will be paying for it for a while yet.

Thought I would update my December MYA$$.

Walking: 37.15 Miles
Biking: 62.32 Miles

Total 99.47

The seven (7) miles we walked on Saturday shopping really helped kicked my numbers up.  I haven't been on the bike much since my little spill the other day but hubs fixed FIL's bike for me so now I'm back on it.

And guess who had an error in her tracking spreadsheet? Yup. And what do I do for a living? Make that two.  Yeah. I win. =)

Christmas is a time of peace and harmony filled with love and compassion for your fellow man.  Describe one time it wasn't so, and more on the disastrous side.

HA!! 2006 was the last Christmas with both boys home, home--no military break, no basic training break, just Mom, Dad, and kids.
( Disaster written all over it...Collapse )I can look back now and laugh, but at the time all I wanted to do was crawl in a hole.

The Christmas meme: copy, paste, and answer the questions.

1. Do you open your gifts on Christmas Eve or day? Both. One gift on Christmas Eve, then the rest on Christmas morning.

2. What do you have for Christmas Dinner? Depends on the mood and if we have guests. Previous years have featured goose, duck, a nice venison roast, lasagne, and once, a homemade pizza.

3. Do you have a Christmas Tradition that you do with your family each year? When the kids were young, we only let them open their stocking Christmas morning. We had breakfast as a family, cleaned up afterwards, then proceeded to open gifts.  Whomever played Santa's helper doling out the gifts, got to wear the Santa's hat.

4. Fave Christmas Carol? While mostly sung at Christmas as a carol, Ave Maria is my go to prayer.

5. Fave Christmas Cookie? Ginger Snaps or Gingerbread Cookies

6. Your Christmas Dessert This Year? Coconut Rum Cake based on the recipe for Tortuga Rum Cake

7. Is your tree real or fake? Fake, I break out in an allergic reaction to evergreen sap and the scent makes my sinuses plug up, ultimately ending in a sinus infection. :)

8. Do you like the snow? In moderation

9. Do you buy your gifts ahead of time or wait till the last minute? Well, well ahead of time

10. The fave Christmas Toy you got as a gift growing up? A Lite Brite.  I absolutely loved it and cried when it burnt out.  Over time I lost the pegs and used all of the sheets, but it was the most amazing thing ~ever~.

Today people in the US are celebrating Thanksgiving.  The turkey has been in the roaster since 0500. And I'm about to start the dressing and green beans and pie.

This year I am extremely thankful for the friends I have met here on lj and formed close, personal bonds with.

I hope you truly know how much I love you, feel blessed to be able to call you my friend,  and appreciate the support you have given me over the past two extremely trying years.

Stay safe in your travels, enjoy your day.

This list (and wording) is nabbed from the wonderful Gabby, aka sinfulslasher  .
Step One:
* Make a post (public, friends-locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple ("I'd love an icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for __ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
* If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
* Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two:
* Surf around your friends list (or friends'-friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
* If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You don't have to spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

November MYA$$ is not going as well.  I've had a few setbacks health wise (resp crap once again) and some things that have left me feeling meh, and some other general painintheass things.

I did join a No Scale November group (or no-weigh November whichever you prefer). I am REALLY struggling with that.  After so many years of never looking at the scale followed by the past year of obsessively compulsively checking the scale on a daily basis to make sure that I'm actually *WORKING* towards my goal, this seems like a major backslide. And it is, for me at least.  I haven't been working all that hard this month even with the excuse of the respiratory crap for the first two weeks.  I also know I've had several NSV (no scale victory) such as fitting into a 16W after more than how many years and being queried by a co-worker from outer office that I'm getting rather skinny, is it wise to lose that much weight.  And my other sister is making noises about whittling down her 300+ frame the same way I've been whittling at mine, slowly with sustainable changes.   But it just isn't the same as weighing in and looking at that scale.

So here are my tickers for November:

My weightloss ticker as of November 1.

Created by MyFitnessPal - Free Weight Loss Tools

Move Your A$$ November ticker through Sunday, 24-November:

I have less than a week to make up 100 miles, but I'm feeling better and I think I can get at least 60 miles in, maybe more. The plan is to hit the stationery bike the rest of the week for at least 10 miles a night and get some walking in too.

Two really quick things:

First, I am starting my holiday card lists.

If you were on it last year, you'll be on it again this year unless you opt out. Early I know, but I have a feeling I may be distracted when it gets closer to the actual holiday. And I don't want a repeat of last year when I sent a card to sexycazzy and got it back in April saying there was no such country as 'UK'...because I fell over laughing at the confuzzled look on DH's face and almost wet myself.

Second, if you do send out holiday cards please consider this worthwhile cause:

1380112_10201389941323372_1804427782_n

I make a point each year to send a box of cards I pick up especially for them.  It really does help to brighten up a holiday for so many that may be lonely and away from home for the first time, or missing precious moments in their child's life and lets them know that someone, somewhere, really does appreciate their service. You can support the person's sacrifice and not support the war.   Please make note that the deadline is December 6th to ensure it gets to the service man/woman on time. If you aren't in the US, maybe your country has a similar program that you can support.

Blessings to all~Libi

Art

And after reworking my tattoo design idea FOUR times, I finally got the artist exactly in line with my vision.
Delicate. Strong. Feminine. Not girly.

It is stylized design, a mixture between a Celtic cross, the Celtic symbol for infinity, a mother and child knot / love knot.

For me, it is a symbol of my Irish heritage, the circle of life, and, the most important thing, faithfulness. To myself. For such s long time I haven't been true to myself. And tried to bend myself into what others wanted from me. Enough

Yesterday the most awesome cackymn_lj came down, taking a well deserved break from elder care.  We went to a free concert in the green space and it was wonderful.  I had such a nice time with her popping in and out of shops, through the amusement park, and the concert.

Due to the lack of electricity and upheaval at our house, she did have to drive back home.  BUT it was pretty hilarious when we got home. Hubs was a bit pissed last night. When we walked into the house, himself decided that we needed to clean house so that she would have somewhere to stay. The logic of a drunk person is hard to get around.  I was finally able to argue around that by the time we got everything ship shape the way he wanted it, She would have been home. Yeah, but it would be clean. After about 10 minutes of arguing, himself fell into bed and demanded to watch some mysterious death show. He was asleep in minutes.

1. You can ONLY answer 'Yes' or 'No'

2. You are NOT ALLOWED to explain ANYTHING unless someone messages or comments you and asks - and, believe me, the temptation to explain some of these will be overwhelming. Nothing is exactly as it seems.
