You can only make progress and get achievements in single player. Co-op is more of a fun addition for a second playthrough. However, if you can complete the entire game in a single sitting (about 2 hours), then playing co-op can be done as a first playthrough.

That sounds terrible. If me and a friend don't care about achievements, can you still make progress in co-op?

You can complete the entire game if it's in one sitting, but the game doesn't save which chapters you were on or your progress through them.

Is there a completed save that you can provide that fixes this?
I was wrong, sorry about that. I just tested and all chapters are available to co-op even without progress made in single player.

Checkpoints aren't available if you quit mid-chapter, however. You would need to redo the entire chapter.

That's absolutely fine and thank you for the answers.

You can actually get achievements in Co-op, so far I've gotten 3.
Pulling the Fire Alarm, finding the Nook in Optical and Recycling.
I know its outdated comment but playing this game in coop is a such a pain in the а$$. Some levels are very bugged so you should go to ur checkpoint. BUT on chapter 7 there is a bug that make it impossible to go through together (you or your partner will be teleported out of the map on the entering to the "lift maze"). Me and my friend decided to stop this coop adventure for this game cuz its unplayable. Very sad and very stressful situation. I really wanted to love this game and share my emotions with my friend, but I cant....
man i wish i had friend in this game that i could play with
