New game??
I just seen that they’re releasing a prequel to this game called subliminal? I can’t find it on the Pillow Castle page? What’s going on can someone tell me as I watch someone play it on YouTube.

Yes, many people have been tricked by it.
It's a completely different game made by completely different people, pretending to be a sequel to Superliminal.

Except it doesn't pretend to be a sequel at all. Sounds to me like you want that to be true to be justified in not liking it. But I see no deceptive practice there in any way, shape or form, that would justify your accusation. Both games use "liminal" in their name and have similar sounding prefixes like "Super" and "Sub", but that's where the similarities end.

Sounds to me like you just fell into my trap. I actually like the game itself, and think the idea of going into memories is cool. And there goes your argument. You see, that's why you shouldn't base your argument on assumptions and strawmen, because your argument can just be completely destroyed.

Even though you replied to the other thread first where I proved that that is in fact, not where the similarities end, you post this after. Interesting. Here, let me help you by pasting it here as well:
Yeah, it's a rip-off. Here are some other things:
- Extremely similar font choice for the title with the same position and color.
- They chose they exact same voice actor - Max Howarth - for the exact same role (a Stanley Parable-esque narrator).
- In the heading "the fear that watches you" in the store page description, there is a stick figure that is in a style reminiscent of the multiple exit signs found in Superliminal. This icon is also used whenever you sprint in the game.
- The store page description also says; "Puzzles revolve around manipulating perspective and lighting" - the exact USP of Superliminal.
- The game also rips ideas one-to-one directly from Superliminal, such as the intro sequence where you zoom out from a TV screen, along with some voice lines that are plagiarized and slightly changed.

Here are some examples of plagiarized or extremely similar voice lines (Game titles shortened for better recognition):
Super: "Not to worry, we're working on it"
Sub (Trailer): "Don't worry, we can fix that"
Sub: "Not to worry, this is perfectly normal"

Super: "-to prevent them from finding their way back to the proper therapeutic path"
Super: "Please return to the orientation pathway"
Sub: "While I find a way to properly reorient onto our designated path"

Super: "Please ... discontinue whatever you were doing immediately prior to that"
Super: "Please also disregard any unsettling experiences that may have recently had"
Sub: "Please immediately disregard whatever feelings caused you to seek this out."

Super: "You may still be experiencing feelings of worthlessness and self-doubt"
Sub: "Unfortunately, it appears this memory is still exhibiting signs of unpleasentness, discomfort and existential dread."
Sub: "Our memories here and their corresponding feelings of loneliness, anxiety and soul-crushing guilt are rather inconvienient"

It's like those fake mobile games that desperately want you to mistake them for the real version.

Well then, issue solved!

It isn't a strawman fallacy when you keep writing in multiple threads that Subliminal is using predatory marketing tactics to make itself known to players of Superliminal and to trick them into thinking that it's a prequel or something. Which it totally does not do, as both games have different aesthetics, are different genres, are aimed at different core audiences and have little in common gameplay-, aesthetics-, genre- or setting-wise.

It's like those fake mobile games that desperately want you to mistake them for the real version.

I saw those dialogue snippets you quoted on the other thread, but that just comes with the territory of following a similar narrative idea. Both games are based on mindscapes and dream realms. There's yet another game on Steam that deals with "right and wrong paths" in a dream realm: Path to Mnemosyne. And there are even more similarly themed games. None of them is trying to copy each other, they're just based on the same idea. So similarities in the dialoge are a homage at best, or a coincidence at worst. It wouldn't make sense to plagiarize just dialogue when the devs really tried to make a bad copy, since they would at least should have tried to immitate the perspective-bases physics, which some youtubers did via Blender. But they didn't because the connection you so desperately try to draw here simply does not exist.

Also, Superliminal is hardly the first game to involve mindscapes and twisting paths as a theme, nor would Subliminal be the last game to dwell with this idea. Subliminal just tapped into the dreamcore horror genre, while Superliminal used the idea of "dream therapy" as a narrative framework to guide the player through the surreal world of puzzles. It wasn't even the first idea, the first videos of it online still featured the old name of the project "Museum of Simulation Technology", which was changed in 2019 to Superliminal. I guess the idea of making it a dreamworld was added later as it provided an explanation for the surreal perspective-based game physics.

Also please note that Subliminal never advertized itself as a sequel or a prequel to Superliminal, never advertized itself as a puzzle game and instead the Steam store page said quite clearly that it is based on or at least is inspired by the backrooms concept, which is something completely different from Superliminal.

Don't get me wrong though, if you were onto something with the plagiarized game suspicion, you'd be totally justified in being annoyed (even though copycat games were already a thing even for Amiga or Atari systems back in the 80s, see "The Great Giana Sisters" for example, so it's hardly a new thing). And honestly, I'd agree with you if this were the case. But both of those games are really, really different in appearance and the only reason people mixed them up in the first place is the similar sounding title, which in itself makes sense since both games feature liminal spaces.
ok but is there a sequel?

no.

I think the devs moved on to other projects.

you know what they may be doing now? anything similar to dream states and vision puzzles is always fun!
From what I’ve seen it’s just a standalone backrooms game by different developers but has a similar title to Superliminal

Exactly. And that's where the similarities end. Apart from trying hard to link both games, they're nothing alike.
