Changing suit crashes to Desktop
Changing suit color / Suit skin pieces crashes to desktop. Doesn't matter if its in the Character screen or in a world, it does it. Doesn't matter if its a single piece of suit or just changing the color, it crashes to desktop.

You could also delete the file with the game shut down, then load the game and try setting the suit options again.

Hi, that is not supposed to happen so I recommend try the Forum/Community workaround(s) in Troubleshooting forum pinned important to see if one of the fixes can help :

Hey Dan,
I went through and tried a couple of fixes, but nothing worked.
For specifics what was done, I did the Cloud removal of blueprints (Unchecked cloud, backed up saves and blueprints, uninstalled space engineers, deleted folders specified, reinstalled, moved saves back in)
Before doing that, I went and tried the simple methods of verifying game cache and a simple reinstall.

I did submit a bug report due to the crash log too if that provides a log of what happened to help resolve this.
Also to add, this still does this both in world and in the main menu

Ok, well done, it's always good move to let the SE programmers know asap :selike:

Veteran advice

I recommend to take advantage of the Workshop to save your Fav creations + world saves and disable the in-game cloud because that cloud option is not made to save where it gave problems to a lot.
I have been having this issue also. I'm unable to change the skin of either my drill or my rifle, as it causes a CTD. Have verified game files to no avail.

You may share the crash log here, some players may see something wrong in there.

How to share the complete game log on Steam :

The game log can be found here:
C:\Users\{YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\SpaceEngineers.log

or simply hit the Windows key + R and type in :
%appdata%\SpaceEngineers

The log file should be from the game session where you've encountered the bug. If you start the game again, the log will be overwritten.
post log file to www.pastebin.com and add the link here.

Game log look like this now, with date on :
>> SpaceEngineers_20210418_213907114.log <<

Would be better to report directly to the SE Programmers.

Support Portal = https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc
(create "Bug report" or "Request help"(Private) or "Feedback"(Petition) on the Portal)

Here some important Data we have to add in the report to help the SE programmer before they ask you :
Bug report Guide

NOTE
No need to use a sharing website like it says in the Bug Report Guide if you use the Support Portal to report, because we can transfer from our Drives over there.

All may use the Support Email to report the bugs found if they prefer :
Email = support@keenswh.com

The character suit and tools colours/skins are saved to the file ActiveInventory.sbl which is in the directory %appdata%\SpaceEngineers\Saves\<Steam ID64 number> ... this is a plain ASCII text file in XML format with the details for the selected items. If you are having this problem, check that the file is present, not corrupted, and not set read-only or with odd permissions. All good on my side so may be worth to reinstall the game following the "Safe Steps" in

Forum/Community workaround(s)
https://steamcommunity.com/app/244850/discussions/6/3464975177698306889/

Safe steps
Try fresh install of the game IF still not working :

1 - Backup Saves and Blueprints, copy/paste to USB storage key or else.
Saves and Blueprints are here :
Hit the Windows key + R and type in : %appdata%\SpaceEngineers
Goes to the SpaceEngineers folder
C: users / your username / appdata / roaming / spaceengineers

2 - Uninstall the game with Steam.
3 - Delete all remaining SE folders/files in the Steam folder.
4 - Delete all remaining SE folders/files in the appdata SE on your C: Drive.
5 - Restart PC.
6 - Install Space Engineers game.

Actually this did it. The file wasn't on read or nothing, but deleting it while the game was exited cleared my suit config, and allowed me to actually save a new one. And I can freely change now with no issues.

I will mention that it didn't look like it had any weird permissions but it likely was corrupted. Going to PIN this as the answer to the topic.

@Dan2D3D I would add that to the player troubleshooting doc you linked maybe an entry for suits perhaps? It was a perfect fix to my issue and likely will help Hazode as well

Great! Yes I can add it in.

Question first :

-> Have you tried Modded suits at some point that could have corrupted that file ?

Asking cause not supposed to happen, I mean I have the game since Dec 2013 and never had this problem.

Edit
I rarely to never use Mods.

Mods yes, Modded suits not since like - before suit customization. It does look like I still have an old one installed but haven't used it on a world yet. Before the suit customization came out that was the really main way I know to have different suits minus the color options.

Ok, thanks for sharing, I've added your discussion to the Forum/Community workaround(s) pinned.
Dan - I've had the file corrupted when I had a power outage while playing, sometimes odd things can cause file corruption with bad results that don't become apparent until long after and the incident was forgotten :)

This worked perfectly, thank you SO much!!

Thanks a lot for your assistance, Dan, however Rox's suggestion worked perfectly, withput the need to verify game files (again lol) or reinstall the game.

Indeed, Rox's steps are better than doing a fresh install.

Thanks for all the info, Rox too!
