Is this a good game to play inbetween matches of another game?
I know this game says idle but sometimes idle games still require you to do some kind of managing of characters and such. Is this a game I can leave running and play in-between que time of other game I'm currently playing?

Some of the challenges need a varying level of babysitting, but there's a lot of more basic gameplay that can be left to itself for long periods,. It's a game you can play at your own pace so choose a run that suits your life at the time.

Like any idle/incremental game it starts out extremely not idle then slowly gets easier as you progress, it's a multi-year game so take that into account.
Absolutely! Idle Champions is actually a great game to have running alongside another game.

In the beginning, you'll need to spend a bit more time unlocking champions, building formations, and learning the mechanics. But as you progress, the game becomes increasingly automated.

Eventually, with Familiars and Modron Automation, you can have your party leveling up, farming resources, and even restarting adventures automatically while you're busy playing something else.

You can simply leave it running in the background and check on it whenever you're waiting for your next match.

Some difficult adventures and challenges will require more attention and strategy, but for everyday farming and general progression, it's perfectly suited to what you're looking for.

Just keep in mind that it's a marathon, not a sprint. There's an enormous amount of content to enjoy at your own pace. :)

Couldnt have asked for a better response. Kinda to good. You use AI for it lol
There is a catch. (Relatively) free familiars in the game (available for gems or patron currency) are barely enough to automate just one party. If you want to run more, you have to cough up real money, spend up your free platinum to buy extra familiars or set up those extra parties manually several times a day.

Fortunately, almost all modron cores in the game are (relatively) free. Only Aerois Core is hidden behind the paywall, and this particular core is relatively unimportant now. On the other hand, modron core elements are a very scarse resourse in the game. You have to spend real money to buy modron chests or will have to depend on their trickle from patron shops and a few other sources for several years to come.

It's possible to play the game in a pure free to play mode and get almost everything of value. However, you will be almost forced to buy about a dozen extra familiars to get from the early game hell. For this reason, it is recommended to spend your free platinum ONLY on heavily discounted familiars (which usually cost about 420 platinum each) and a few other rare good offers, which are usually reported by other users on this forum. It is possible to get even the above-mentioned Aerois Core for free for collection purposes - sometimes it is avaialbe in weekly offers for about 1k platinum, and you can use your free platinum to buy it.

I have to disagree with the part about Modron Chests.

I've personally never spent any real money on Modron Chests, and I've never felt the need to.

There are several ways to obtain them for free:

- You can purchase one Modron Component Chest from each unlocked Patron every week using Patron currency.
- You receive another Modron Chest every time one of your Modron Cores levels up.
- During Emergence Events, you can also purchase additional Modron Chests using Corrupted Gems earned through gameplay.

If you regularly complete your weekly Patron challenges and keep leveling your cores, you'll accumulate quite a few chests over time.

Of course, building and fully optimizing multiple Modron Cores takes patience. But that's part of the game's long-term progression, not something that requires spending real money.

From my own experience, you can build very effective Modron Cores entirely through normal gameplay. You just need to give it some time. :)

I think it's important that new players understand the difference between paying to progress faster and actually needing to pay.
I also managed to get by without buying modron chests for real money. However, you will be at the mercy of RNG. For example, it took me 1.5 years to get a certain cross element because many elements of this type cannot be obtained via upgrades. In general, you can expect getting about 1-3 cross elements per month, depending on how lucky you are.

My current reserves of unspent cross elements from playing the game for 5 years, with 4 cores more or less maxed.
There's one catch with leaving this running with playing other games.

I don't think IC deliberately uses GPU compute resources, it's sprite based animation and shouldn't need to use the GPU to get performance, it's probably down to the engine under it.

That can crash other games. No Man's Sky is one of the GPU intensive games it'll cause to crash.

I haven't had any problems at all with other games running in the background, not even with No Man's Sky. Even the latest AAA games run without any issues.

Lucky you.

It's become a reliable crasher for me. NMS runs fine with no IC running, runs longer with the IC window rolled up (not minimised) but NMS crashes reliably (sometimes on startup) with IC running, it's only average time before the crash that changes. I can sometimes get a few minutes play if I don't try to go anywhere.

This is relatively recent, either an IC or NMS update triggered it. Probably a bug in IC, NMS or Steam. Less likely to be driver as all of 590/595/610/615 do the same. IC itself doesn't crash, doesn't appear to have any corruption. Not thermal, probably not VRAM, certainly not RAM.

It's just a heads up, you may get lucky but if things get unstable try shutting IC down and playing whatever to see if the problem goes away. This is a recent recent change and hit me hard doing the latest NMS expedition until I worked out a way around (don't have IC running ;) )

I don't have many current AAA games, but other graphics intensive games like Skyrim gave no problems at all.
If you don't care about completion (achievements), this game is fine
if you do care about it, prepare for several years of being unable to complete specific variants unless they either make limited resources freely available, or powercreep old champs to become viable again. The problem with the current end state of the game is scaling things so steeply and restricting so many champions that it "encourages" spending to gear up the trailing-behind characters, which you may very well not use again. And that's not counting variants that eject characters one by one permanently for the entire run.

I'm beginning to think we will never see a full dismantle anymore because it greases the spending cogs not to do so.
