What a ♥♥♥♥ "game"
Barely even a "game". Just like how "2001 a space odyssey" is barely a movie.
It IMO is hyped by people who think they're way more intelligent than they really are.
That's all I have to say. Peace. ✌️

You couldn't be further from it, sir. Pretty left-leaning, and a rationalist (not a nationalist). Peace! ✌️

Read the book instead.
But the book neither explains anything right from the start nor explains everything in the end. And relies to much on the over-emotional context and reader's judgement with reader's interpretation. So, it, most probably, will be "hardly a book" for you as well. LOL

I'll give it a shot. Because from what I "played", it was just a book masquerading as a video game (or more specifically as an "RPG game", if you consider visual novels to be games). I would have loved to give it a shot as a graphic/visual novel with choices. The clunky point and click running around and dice checks just seemed to hinder what would otherwise have been a good visual novel.

Wonderful
2001: A Space Odyssey is a bona fide masterpiece and the single most influential science-fiction film ever made. Disco Elysium is also one of the best and most unique isometric RPGs ever created. It's absolutely riveting, and there's not even any combat.

For you to say it's "hyped by people who think they're way more intelligent than they really are" tells me all I need to know about you. You're close-minded with a short attention span, and I'd put money on the odds that you barely progressed through the story at all.

It's ok to not like certain games, but when you start generalizing in a negative way about the people who do like it; it actually explains more about your character and disposition than any statement reflecting the quality of said game. You didn't even tell us why you disliked either the movie or the game- I'm going to infer that they both went over your head. Peace out!

Okay, I admit generalizing is wrong. I'll limit that quote to "many of them" instead. But I've seen (many of) the snobs. Extremely, extremely similar in their demanour. This thread was aa retort to them. If you're not one of them, then ignore it. There was absolutely nothing in either work to "go over my head" either. Disco Elysium was barely a "game". 2001 was barely a "movie". That's all there is to it.
And something being "influential" does not necessarily make it an engaging/entertaining watch or play. Do not conflate the two. I can see and appreciate 2001's influence, for sure. But I do not see it as a good movie when I watch it.
This sound like "that's a raw beef!" folk when these people seeing Prime rib.
nope. writing in this game is goated. tell me any other writing that is this much on point, detailed, funny, crazy, sad and engaging... oh and its fully voiced. the entire writing is fully voiced. let that sink in. there is simply no other game like it out there (still)

Writing alone does not a game make.
