When my dad died, ( 3/25/01), the first song that played on the radio, on the way to his apt. to pick up my aunt...was "I hope you Dance"~ by Lee Ann Wolmack..

I hope you dance....how ironic...

I can't hear that song now without thinking of him...

im sorry if i'm doing proper story format, i've been depressed lately. my girlfriend a very excellent 4 months just broke up with  me wednesday ...>

The rain fell alike upon the just and upon the unjust, and for nothing was there a why and a wherefore.

What do you crave today, and what does it remind you of? [28 Mar 2003|05:59pm]

dyfferent
I crave a little sunshine. It's been overcast today. When I was a teenager, each summer I used to arrange groups of potted plants on my mother's front porch to create vistas & hidden areas and furniture to arrange conversational groups. At the end I always put the chaise lounge. With hummingbirds zooming from feeder to feeder over my head, I'd lie in that chair, partially concealed by a big palm, and read tatty secondhand books. Eventually the warmth would get to me and I'd drift off to sleep.

I also crave porcupine meatballs, which my sister and I learned to make out of Betty Crocker's Children's Cookbook (the 1960s edition). But I'm going out tonight to a leaving party which will feature much classier cuisine, so must forbear. :)

FWIW, anyone who is a member of this community can now post a topic. I, at least, promise to respond!

(tell us a story!)

What's the stupidest mistake you've ever made? [14 Jan 2003|10:35pm]

dyfferent
(from a thread on a newsgroup I read)

(6 tales | tell us a story!)

Sad songs, they say. . . [06 Oct 2002|10:20pm]

dyfferent
Tell us about a story tied up with a song. The song that makes you think of someone, the song they were playing when. . .

You know it. There's a story that comes flooding back every time you hear--

(2 tales | tell us a story!)

It's my party. . . [20 Jul 2002|08:54am]

dyfferent
So, parties. Social gatherings. Groups of people. Mobs.

What I want from you this time is a story about a social gathering--what happened there? Social gaffes? A brilliant scene? Did someone say something you never forgot?

Did you ever attend a party that was a wet fart or possibly one that was completely wonderful? There's a story in it somewhere; share it with us!

(Excuse my lousy syntax; though this is a "night" prompt I'm writing this far too early for me)

(5 tales | tell us a story!)

Thief! Thief! [23 Jun 2002|12:08pm]

dyfferent
Ever stolen anything? What was it? What's the story behind your theft--are you guilty, do you feel justified, or do you just not care?

If you're innocent of theft yourself (or don't want to share), has anyone stolen anything from you? What was it and how did you feel?

(tell us a story!)

It's the END! [13 Apr 2002|07:39pm]

dyfferent
So then, it was over. Tell about how you stopped something, quit something, or how something ended. It could be your graduation or the day you decided not to smoke anymore or the time you dropped that toxic girlfriend. So tell us all about . . . THE END!

(11 tales | tell us a story!)

Ewwww, GROSS! [07 Apr 2002|02:47am]

dyfferent
Ok, here it is. This is the place for that barf story, that inopportune burst of wind, that belch in the middle of a serious speech, that cricket leg in your salad.

Go on, try to gross us out. I double dog dare ya!

(9 tales | tell us a story!)

How embarrassing! [27 Mar 2002|10:04pm]

dyfferent
Well, after my last story *ahem* I think embarrassing moments are a good choice for a topic!

So, yours or another's, as long as it's a true one--tell us about something completely cringeworthy!

You can laugh about it *now*, can't you?

(5 tales | tell us a story!)

s3x0r! [18 Mar 2002|07:58pm]

dyfferent
Tell us a sex story. . . it doesn't have to have happened to you, it just has to be true!

;)

This should bring 'em out of the woodwork.

(1 tale | tell us a story!)

Gotcha! [03 Feb 2002|09:40am]

dyfferent
Pranks, practical jokes--we all love them (as long as it's not on us)!

Know of a spectacular or a gentle prank that was just perfect? Or one that went horribly wrong?

(7 tales | tell us a story!)

School stories. . . [27 Jan 2002|06:12pm]

dyfferent
[ mood | anxious ]

You spent 12 or more years of your life locked up there. . . anything interesting happen while you did your time?

(2 tales | tell us a story!)

Boo! [15 Jan 2002|09:17am]

dyfferent
[ mood | awake ]

Ghost stories, creepy stories, odd and mysterious coincidences. You voted for them, and now it's your turn to regale us with TALES OF THE SPOOKY....

For just a moment, let's sit around the campfire and listen to the night sounds in the dark woods behind us.

Now, who shall begin?

(tell us a story!)

[12 Jan 2002|09:11am]

[ mood | inquisitive ]

Story night topics are the kind of things that, in conversation, bring up people's little personal stories, family legends, that kind of thing. So I had a few ideas. I'd would like to know what you'd like to story about most this week. And there's a spot to submit your own topic ideas as well, of course.

Poll #15769: Next Topic
Open to: all, results viewable to: all

What's the best Storynight topic for this week?
Ghost stories/the supernatural (keep in mind, these should be true or at least told as true)
The Weather
Happy Times
School Stories
Pranks
Life isn't FAIR
Let's talk about sex, baybee
None of the above, see below

How about THIS one instead:

Keep in mind--if you pick it, I'm going to nag you to tell it when the topic comes up.

:)

(3 tales | tell us a story!)

Entirely relative. . . [29 Nov 2001|01:22pm]

dyfferent
[ mood | contemplative ]

Relatives. We all have them. They drive us crazy, they make us happy, they bewilder us. Do you have an odd aunt or a strange cousin? Was your mother mental? Is your brother a bother?

Regale us with stories (happy or sad or just plain strange) about your kinfolk, if you please :)

(Don't worry, nobody will tell them you said anything)

(3 tales | tell us a story!)

A little to the left---up a little-- [07 Nov 2001|07:25pm]

dyfferent
Do you have a favorite place? Tell us about it--what's it like, what does it mean to you?

Maybe it's even a place that no longer exists, but it still lives in your memories.

How about it?

(2 tales | tell us a story!)

Things we throw away. . . [18 Oct 2001|09:05am]

dyfferent
[ mood | accomplished ]

Do you have a story about garbage, things that are thrown away? Rightfully thrown away, unfairly thrown away. Need to be thrown away?

Things you rescued from the garbage?

Share it here.

PS:
I've only gotten two votes in the poll, and one is mine. Can't be deciding much like that, folks. If you don't care, do the poll as "don't care".

I'd also like to note that the first topic has finally shaped up into a nice storynight. :) No topic, of course, is ever closed, so do go back & post some if you think of anything.

(2 tales | tell us a story!)

Poll [15 Oct 2001|09:26am]

dyfferent
OK, kids, we've hit a snag. Is the LJ fixed word limit on comments too restrictive for you to tell a story from your life? The reason I set the members to only be able to make comments, the way I did, was to keep all replies to a story *under* the topic, in a threaded fashion. In this way, anyone who came along later could still add comments under the topic, keeping everything together.

However, we've just lost a potentially great story by someone being informed by LJ that it was over the limit and them panicking & not hitting the "back" button, so that the story vanished into the ether.

Postings rather than comments would allow for unlimited words (as long as you weren't posting via mIRC). So, a poll. ( Bear with me if this comes out weird; it's my first poll:Collapse )

(6 tales | tell us a story!)

I would like to take you upon a journey. . . [14 Oct 2001|01:33pm]

dyfferent
Any journey. Stories involving people (or things) going from one place to another place. Near or far. Important or trivial. Road trip, or shortcut to school.

How's about it?
