[Noa has been out and about all day today, but not in her usual getting-into-everyone's-business way. Something has been steadily growing in the back of her mind and nagging at her, and today, she's intent on learning something new.
Heaven have mercy on you, Luceti Library. Noa is trying to teach herself how to read.
It's not going well.
None of the books she picks up are making any sense, and Terra can't seem to recognize any of the characters. And so, Noa's head is just starting to hurt. After several attempts to pull something off the shelves that will at least make some sense, she gives up. Time to try out the journals.]
[Voice]
[This is a plaintive tone coming over the journals.] Um. Hello? Is anybody there? Um. My name is Noa, and I was just wondering...
[Pause. How to ask this how to ask this. Aha!]
Is there anyone I can talk to so I can learn how to read? These books here at the library are really hard!

[Voice]
[But only scholars and nobility do that!]
[Voice]
Uh-huh. I want to learn as much as I can about this place.
[Voice]
Well, I'm not sure you'll find much of that in the library. It was all written into a guide already.

[Voice]
-Or, you know what my mother used to do? She used to write down the word when I pointed at the object in front of me! So then I knew what the word looked like that way too.
[Voice]
[Beat. Wait a second.]
Um. Do you know someone who could write down the words for me?

Once he has a small pile he'll go ahead and sit down to look through them.
Pester him?]
[Action]
Once he's settled down, Noa will pop up and peer over the pile of books at him. And flash a bright smile.]
Wow! Are you really gonna read all of these right now?
[Action]
And in response to her smile and the fact that she's a kid, he gives a small smile of his own.]
Not right now. I want to be sure there is something useful before I check them out.
[If she does look at the book he's looking at while he flips through it, it actually does have some pictures, but they are complex diagrams of devices that would look much like clockwork devices, though rather unusual looking ones. Definitely some tiny print, and complex looking equations to go with it. It would definitely be beyond Noa's ability to figure out, but the devices may look neat.]
[Action]
[Nope, not following what those diagrams mean, but they're definitely really cool looking. Especially when viewed upside-down. She stares, wide-eyed, as he flips through a few pages before giving an excited little flail. And before she can happily go on about how cool the diagrams are, her flail knocks over a few books.]
...Sorry.

They have a school here, ya know.
[ voice ]
I know! But don't you need to be able to read to go? There were a lot of books...
[Also writing. That's still a mystery too.]
[ voice ] /sob, I lost this somehow
Kiddo, school is where ya learn ta read. It might be nice for ya. There are a bunch of kids that go.
[ voice ] totally cool, i've been lagging on these tags anyhow >>
Oh. [Flail!] That explains why there were so many books! Do they just let you walk right in? The monks back home used to get real mad if you ran in while they were studying.
[As she knows from one too many charges into the center of attention...]
