Android is to Human as Anthroid is to Anthropomorphic Animal
--------------------------------------------
This is the first LiveJournal community exclusively designed for lifelike robotic anthropomorphic animals, as well as lifelike robotic animals. Posts can include anything from pictures and news about the latest advancements in lifelike, nonhuman robotics, to simple, philosophical, or speculative discussion about what these beings are and what it means for them to exist among us in an ever changing world, to artwork and fiction depicting these amazing beings. Other creatures of artificial origin, though not expressly robotic (such as clockworks, golems, genetically engineered and somehow advanced or "different" beings, or those simply made from other inanimate materials, like water, plastic, wood, leather, etc.), are welcomed, as well.
There are many kinds of "anthroids", from the simple animatronics that exist today, to the deeply futuristic visions that are limited only by our collective imaginations. Before there will be androids, there will be lifelike robotic animals. Just look at AiBO, Sony's robotic pet dog. This trend will only continue as technology improves and parts become cheaper and more effective. Could we have these creatures in twenty years? Could we have life sized, anthropomorphic beings of an artificial nature within fifty years? If so, the benefits, ramifications, and responsibilities are enormous and amazing. How will society adjust to these amazing changes?
Your trusty moderator, duraji_synth, welcomes you to the world of anthroids. Whether you have always had a fascination for synthetic life, or are just now becoming interested in it, there's sure to be many things about these delightful beings that will peak your curiousity and creativity!
