Phuket –
Authorities at Phuket International Airport have arrested two women, one Thai and one Filipino, after uncovering more than 32 kilograms of cannabis flowers hidden in their luggage.
The operation was led by Mr. Nucha Jiradit, Chief of Phuket Airport Customs, alongside Ms. Thanomjit Burirak, Director of Customs Control, and Ms. Charoenporn Chaengwansuk, Head of Investigation and Suppression. Officers from Sakhu Police Station, under the command of Pol. Col. Salan Sankisasanakul and Pol. Lt. Col. Rattanawut Nukaew, coordinated the arrests.
- First arrest (11:00 a.m.): Customs officers inspected a black PIERRE CARDIN suitcase belonging to an 18‑year‑old Filipino woman. Inside, they discovered 14 vacuum‑sealed packages of cannabis flowers weighing 14.5 kilograms.
- Second arrest (1:00 p.m.): A green SWISH NAVY suitcase carried by a Thai woman was found to contain 16 vacuum‑sealed packages of cannabis flowers, weighing 17.6 kilograms.
Both suspects were apprehended within the international departures terminal and face prosecution under Thai law for attempting to smuggle cannabis out of the country without customs clearance.
Officials stated that the arrests are part of heightened enforcement measures at Phuket Airport, where passenger baggage inspections have been intensified to prevent illegal exports of cannabis. Authorities pledged to continue strict monitoring and enforcement to safeguard against narcotics trafficking.
