She wasn't the sharing type

This American woman bought a plate of crepes for herself at this street fair in central Tbilisi and sat down to enjoy them. This street dog saw her, came over and was like "Mmmmm, crepes! They smell so good. I bet they are good. Are they good?".

The woman wasn't the sharing type though. She did not want to share her crepes and just ignored the dog. And when she saw that the scene attracted everyone's attention, she pretended to type something on her phone looking pissed off.

The locals were not impressed, called the dog and shared some of their food with him. That guy in the orange sweater in the photo above was the first to share his food with the dog. Everyone ended up liking the dog and kinda not liking the woman. I still liked the woman though, she just really wanted her crepes and wasn't getting pushed into doing something she didn't want to do by everyone's attention and disapproval, good for her. And the dog wasn't starving.

Staged love

Blonde girl in the middle: OMG, I like him! I like him a lot!

Her friend with the camera: Talk to him! Come on! To the guy: Hey you, my friend here thinks you are handsome, she likes you!

One minute later:

The real story was much more boring and the opposite of spontaneous. This couple were touring Tbilisi and they hired this photographer to take romantic pictures of them at all the landmark spots. The photographer was meticulously directing the shoot bossing them around about the poses, the angles, etc for ages before actually taking the shot. Fuck that, I think my story above is way better.

I was 17 when a woman I did not know kissed me in the street for the first time. It was in Amsterdam, her friend just came over to me in Prinsengracht and said "My friend here thinks you are handsome, can she kiss you?" in a very low voice many Dutch women have (her friend was standing one step away from us). I agreed enthusiastically and her friend, a very tall blonde woman of about 26-28 kissed me (with some tongue) right there. It was an awesome long kiss, she was a good kisser. Her lips tasted like lime tree flowers and she smelled so good to the 17-year-old me. After the first kiss I asked her if I could kiss her back, she said yes and I did. I don't know if she lost some bet or it was some game they were playing.

Of course these days all of that would be super problematic on so many levels. She would be a pedophile rapist bitch full of "toxic femininity" objectifying me and traumatising me for life. Let alone a horrible Godless slut and an insensitive islamophobe, offending all the devout Christians and Muslims around us like that. Probably racist (she was a white woman and she chose me not a person of colour) and offensively heteronormative too. But of course our main crime was that we did not have a photographer with us to post the pictures on our social media afterwards thus rendering the whole thing useless. Fuck that and fuck all those staged photos. I'll take free love and real street photography any day though.

So even though the love above is staged and their pictures of it are staged too, my pictures of them I am posting for you here do not count as staged, am I right gang?

Faking it

Tbilisi is much less sunny than I expected it to be this time of the year. So much so that they have to fake it. I saw this setup today not far from our place here. I guess they were filming something inside and wanted it to look like it was a sunny morning not an overcast evening outside.

Photographing the police

Whenever I arrive to a new country I always jump on the first chance to photograph the police in the streets. Usually their reaction can tell you a lot about the general mood in the country. Georgian policemen seem very relaxed around cameras and are cool with being photographed.

The police that is paranoid about tourists with cameras is often indicative of how paranoid those running the place are and how (not) fun the place is. Although it is not always the case.

Find the dog

This homeless woman from central Tbilisi is super friendly to kids and dogs (see if you can spot her dog in the photo):

Our kid loves her. She speaks Russian to him which he can speak too unlike Helga and I. Although I do understand quite a bit especially when it comes to written text. But I think she speaks Russian with a heavy accent and I don't understand most of it at all.

You may remember that my attempt to learn Russian while we were based in Moldova was what I like to call "a moderate success". Yeah, I am really lazy and could not be bothered to put in the work and let's be honest, it is a crazy language. Helga on the other hand chose to learn Romanian, which is much easier than Russian and she was really disciplined about it so she is fluent in Romanian now.

got tea?

Holland and Barrett is considered really posh here in Tbilisi. Its only small shop is in one of the best streets of the poshest neighbourhood of the city and it has a doorman / security at the entrance. I guess the heist risk is high. I immediately imagined how a group of masked men ran into the store, raided the shelves and escaped with three bottles of Omega 3 and two bottles of milk thistle capsules.

But they did have what we needed. Helga was not satisfied with the teas at supermarkets here (not organic, fair trade, etc enough as usual) but they had a good selection of UK's Pukka and Heath & Heather teas which Helga was happy with.

They actually grow their own local tea here in Georgia but we will drink the tea grown somewhere in Asia, packaged and certified in the UK, imported into the US and Australia and then shipped to Georgia with all the info on it in English and Scandinavian languages cos we are health and environmentally conscious y'all!

I think we might be needing some honey next and it will be this (see here) all over again.
