Puppy behaviour and trainer [29 Jan 2014|09:33am]

insanechicky
Hi everyone,

I recently adopted 4 month old puppy and need to find a
really good behaviourist in my area. My puppy is
terribly shy and scared of everything. I tried to put
a collar on her so she gets used walks once the weather
Improves and she went nuts then followed by hiding and
sulking. She goes crazy and hides when I even try to
attach the leash to the collar. I have never had a puppy
like this so I need professional assistance.
Can anyone recommend a good trainer in the Markham, Stouffville,
Richmond hill area?
Thanks!

Looking for a home for my two guinea pigs [23 Jan 2009|07:02pm]

I'm in school now and between that and work and life in general, I don't have much time for them and would like them to go somewhere where they will be able to get lots of exercise and attention. They are both about 7 months old. Arya is a teddy bear and is really round, she headbutts when things are on her face. She's feisty and inquisitive. Sansa is all fur, we call her the bad toupee haha. She's the cuddly one. The two are inseperable. Included with them would be their cage (they could use an upgrade as they get bigger though), a food dish, two water bottles cuz Arya can get hoggy, a cuddle bag, the carrier they came in from pet smart, a wood house, a playpen, some food, some timothy hay and some bedding.

FINALLY [06 Dec 2008|01:21pm]

We finally figured it out! The snuggly warm dog hat and scarf is finally here! After some long, hard, tedious work, we finally got them past production! We made them in 3 sizes, XS, SM, M/L. We're also almost done with the slotted hats for the ears to poke out of. I'll post images of those when they're finally ready as well!

Thanks everyone for all the feedback and suggestions! You flippin' ROCK!

So last night I was going through last winter's bag of ideas for winter dog hats and I found this funny red corduroy one which Stewie just loves to wear. I always laugh so hard when he wears this one but it poses a good question for this season's line of winter-wear....

QUESTION:
What is in more of demand by the customer???
a) Dog hats with cute lil teddy ears on the side or
b) Dog hats with lil slits for the pet's real ears to poke out of?

Help me out here... Let's put it to a VOTE!

So I recently purchased a guinea pig, and am looking to get a playpen for her. Ideally it'd be about 6 feet by 2 feet in a rectangular shape, but I like the idea of interlocking plates or bendable walls so the shape can change (I change my room around once or twice a year, to freshen things up). Pet stores are charging 40 plus dollars for their play pens :s I'm not handy enough to build one out of chicken wire, plus I'd want something free standing anyways. Any suggestions? Anyone got an extra play pen they can part with?

Btw, here is my girl. Her name is Arya :)

Because of the overwhelmingly positive response and generosity of family and friends old and new, and the fact that we are thisclose to reaching our goal, I've scheduled Stubby's surgery for July 2nd!

So, the last day to donate via PayPal will be June 27th! Donations made directly to the vet's office can be made all the way through July 2nd.

If you've already donated, THANK YOU!!

UPDATE: Reaching out for support... [17 Jun 2008|10:20pm]

What a wonderful day today! Not only did Dr. Crocker's office agree to accept donations on Stubby's behalf (see my earlier posts for that info), we raised $250! Much of that $250 came from the support of the LJ communities, so from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!!

Since the fundraising is going so well (we're only about $250 short of our goal!), I was able to go ahead and schedule Stubby's surgery for July 2nd. He's having his bloodwork done next week, and I'm hopeful that we'll have a reason for why his teeth are in such bad shape.

I'm very grateful for and encouraged by all the positive feedback I've gotten...even the negative feedback has helped me to improve the way I'm doing things, so that's awesome.

So, if you've already donated, THANK YOU!! And if you haven't, please consider it...if you're unable to, prayers and well-wishes are accepted, too :-)

UPDATE: Reaching out for support... [17 Jun 2008|11:47am]

I recently posted a fund-raising request for donations to help cover the costs of extensive dental surgery for Stubby, a sweet little guy I'm fostering. Several folks suggested that they'd feel more comfortable donating directly to the vet's office than to me, which I understand completely. I thought that was a great idea, so I contacted my vet's office today, and they've graciously agreed to accept check and/or credit/debit card donations on Stubby's behalf.

Checks can be made payable to Bigger Road Veterinary Clinic. Please be sure to reference 'Account #30919' in the check's memo field.

Credit/debit card donations can be taken over the phone by calling (937) 435-3262. Again, please be sure to reference Account #30919. Their mailing address is:

Bigger Road Veterinary Clinic
5655 Bigger Rd.
Kettering, OH 45440

Thank you so much to those who have already donated!

Sincerely,

Reaching out for support... [15 Jun 2008|02:09pm]

[ mood | hopeful ]

My name is Ria, and I've created an LJ on behalf of a sweet little guy named Stubby. A friend asked me to provide a temporary home for Stubby, as well as try to find him a forever home, and I was happy to oblige. I knew that Stubby hadn't been to the vet in a few years, and would need to be caught up on his vaccinations and receive a clean bill of health before I could find a forever home for him.

However, when I took him in for his exam, the doctor determined that his oral health was deteriorated to such an extent that Stubby would need to undergo extensive surgery to extract all of his teeth and repair the damage to his gums and jawbones. As you can imagine, that kind of surgery is very, very expensive, and I if I had the means to pay for it on my own, I would do so in a heartbeat. That's where you come in...

I've created a website called www.freewebs.com/surgeryforstubby, where you can learn a little more about Stubby as well as make donations in any amount to help cover the cost of the surgery. For every $5 donated, you'll receive an entry in the Thank You Raffle for a chance at the Grand Prize of a $50 SuperCertificate to www.GiftCertificates.com

My fundraising goal is $1,200...any money raised that exceeds the goal amount will be donated to SICSA (The Society for the Improvement of Conditions for Stray Animals, which is a wonderful no-kill shelter here in Kettering, Ohio.

I'm asking for your support as I try to improve Stubby's life. Several people have told me to "just put him down, it's not worth it"...as far as I'm concerned, this is not an option. He's only four years old, and with this surgery, will lead a long, happy life. Please consider donating...even $1 will help! Even if all you can do is share the website with your friends and fellow animal lovers, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your time, and thank you for all the work you do to help our furry friends! If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

I want to make it very clear that my one and only goal in creating the website and corresponding LJ is to raise the funds necessary to get Stubby on the road to health and happiness. I am not affiliated with any shelter or rescue group...I'm just one person trying to make a difference in one animal's life, in any way that I can.

Sincerely,
Ria K.

Hi everyone!

I just joined this community and I noticed that the mod's account has been deleted? Does that mean no one is maintaining this community? If so, I would be happy to do it.

Also, not to be mean and intrusive but I was thinking that the layout could use some work.

Anyone agree?

Hi! I am trying to organize a neighborhood group to discuss the possibility of a off leash dog park in the Weston area. I'm at WEston& Lawerence, near the Humber River Park, Cruikshank and a number of neighborhood parks. Several of them would be great for a designated off leash area.
Toronto is making an attempt to accomadate pet owners, lets get the ball rolling for the not-quite down town folks and dogs!
email westondogpark@yahoo.com if interested in hearing more or helping organize.

Cruelty towards animals in Chernihiv, Ukraine. Please HELP! [26 Jul 2007|08:47pm]

anja_ua
[ mood | sad ]

Dear all!

Let us tell you some recent facts about cruelty towards animals in Chernihiv, Ukraine

1. Instead of putting an animal to sleep with the use of euthanasia (i.e. the act of killing an animal painlessly), the animal service uses dithylinum (suxamethonium chloride), a poison which paralyzes the animal and causes it to die of suffocation in a few hours of agony. There is ample evidence that the poor creatures are still conscious and feel all the pain before they die. It is often the case that animals are beaten with legs and metal sticks, whereupon they are buried alive.

2. 20.04.2007, the "Yasen" factory area: the dog named Lisa (the one with a collar) was killed close to her home, and 25.04.2007 several dogs, who also had their owners, were brutally killed nearby the houses and yards they used to live in.

3. 8.06.2007, Savchuk St.: a pregnant dog named Betty, who used to live in the yard for 10 years, was cruelly slaughtered before people's eyes. Since the poison dose was not enough, the dog was trying to crawl away, but the bastards got into the car and ran the dog over. On hearing about this horrible accident, an elderly man, who used to take care of this dog, went deep in shock and his feet failed under him.

4.20.06.2007, Odintsova St.: a puppy (vaccinated and wearing a collar) was brutally killed before the children's eyes (there is a kindergarten nearby).

5. Winter 2007: the workers of the animal service were trying to beat a little dog (only 25 cm high) to death. The dog lost its eye and a jaw. The woman who was trying to rescue the dog was threatened with poison.

6. Little puppies are thrown into a pit to their dying mother, where they suffer of hunger and heat for several days, and then slowly die.

7. The service charges only UAH 1.6 to kill a dog, whereas the city administration allocates UAH 100 per 1 dog!

dogs in weston/lawerence area [11 Jul 2006|09:29am]

theotherben
hi
i'm new to the city and am looking for some informal dog playtime groups in the parks nearby.
i'm near weston/lawerence and am close to the Cruikshank, Humber River and Raymore Parks. I walk my dogs at all times of the day but rarely see anyone out in those parks. I know there are dogs in the neighborhood, i see other people walking around the streets, but maybe they just keep them in their yards?- a damn shame b/c dogs need to socialize too!
anyway if anyone lives nearby or knows of any people who walk regularly, please let me know.
note: i do sometimes take my guys to High Park Dog Hill or Sorauren Park but it'd be nice to do something closer too.
Thanks

sweet orange tabby kitten needs permanent or foster home ASAP. [27 Jun 2007|12:12am]

I got this email today and my heart goes out to the little one. I've send this on to nearly every cat lover I know, so I thought it couldn't hurt to post it here too.

Dear cat-lovers,

Just in case you know someone, or have room for a sweet little orange
tabby kitten... he tested positive for FIV but the vet says it might
go away because of how young he is. He is otherwise healthy, playful
and affectionate. Respond quickly if you can, he's at risk of being
euthanized. :( See string of emails attached, contact info is in there.
